Anyone try "Snap Hooks"?

I live in a dorm room with a big ass window facing a main street with lots of lights. All we've got our these crappy blinds that don't keep out any light or give any privacy. We're not allowed to drill in the wall, and I cannnot find a tension rod that is long enough (82+"), but I really want to hang up a curtain. I was searching and I came across these things.. but they seem kinda sketchy... it says that it can hold 10 pounds, so I guess that'd be enough to hold a cutain. Anyone have any experience with them (good, bad?) or have any other ideas?

if it is on glass or a completely slick surface, it should work. It will not work on cinderblock.

Well, it's not cinderblock.. it's just a regular old finished, painted wall. My roommate just remembered that his parents bought him some 3M "Command" adhesive hooks a while ago. These look like they might work.

I have the 3M hooks that you can unstick when you want to by pulling on the bottom. They can hold a suprising amount, and stick to anything. I highly recommend them.

I've used the ones with the adhesive back, not the suction ones. The adhesive ones work nicely. I've put two wet towels on one before - it was fine.

If you've already purchased it, just slap it on. See how it goes. You sould be fine.

Damn dorm rooms.

we use the suction type all the time, but on window glass....I would recommend the sticky type with the pull on the bottom to release it...of coarse I have a few sticky ones left that I bought for my wife to hange some antic plates with----never did like those damn plates..

Yes, I have Snap Hooks, and they hold like a mother fucker, But yeah, they only work on smooth surfaces. I doubt they will stick to the wall.

Why do you say that? How smooth does smooth have to be? I can't say that the wall is rough at all.. it's not smooth like tile..

I think that the 3M jumbo sized adhesive hooks, along with a tab top curtain, will do the trick. Of course I may still be moving out of my room so I guess I shouldn't rush into things.

You _could_ always drill anyways.

If hiding the evidence afterwards is the issue - just use gum!

i have some dorm experience

drill anyway
and make sure, when you leave, to have some hole filler (i'm not sure what exactly to use but i know you can buy it at hardware stores if you ask) and some paint the same color as your wall

and even if you don't, they usually don't care

much cheaper than buying those hooks (unless of course you already did)

I always used to put some clear tape ove the hole, then cover the tape with white-out. Nobody every noticed.

THe suction cups probably won't stick to the wall... up close, drywall is very porous. Go with the adhesive, or just put some holes in there... or just tape garbage bags on the window.. it's only a dorm after all

I use these suckers on tile to hold up our bath towels and they do a great job.
