Holy shit!
That's sad as hell. I can't believe it. He's like an American institution and now he's gone. R.I.P. John. :( Thanks for alerting me, Nomad. Here's a CNN artical that's a little more indepth. http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/TV/0...bit/index.html Quote:

Thats a shame, I always liked that guy. Even though I kind of resented him for getting to live with those chicks, but either way that sucks.:(
|
Johnny Cash also died today. =\

John Ritter
I was going to post this on the main discussion page,
but the guy always made me laugh. so it is only fitting to post this here. John Ritter died last night of heart problems. He was 54 going on 55. He was one of the people who first made me want to go after woman, ( his char on 3's a company) Anyhow, He was pretty cool. |
I'm sad to see both John Ritter and Johnny Cash pass away, but I've been expecting to hear the news about Johnny Cash since he missed the MTV Music Awards. Ritter's death comes out of the blue and reminds me of a friend I lost late last year to a sudden heart attack with zero warning. It also brings back the memory of Jim Henson - who died without anyone having any time to mentally prepare.
Another painful reminder that our time here is very, very limited and may expire at any moment - whether we're ready or not. |
I'm gutted this morning. Not much to say except I'm saddened by Cash and shocked by Ritter.
(speechless) |
The loss of a funny man - John Ritter dies
TV Star John Ritter Dies of Heart Problem
Sad loss, he was a talented man. I always enjoyed his work. |
Sad, sad, sad. Too young to die. He MADE 'Three's Company'. Great comedian, gone too soon. :(
|
That's really sad. I loved 'Three's Company', and it was good to see him on 8 Simple Rules
|
I was just gonna post this. Pretty unfortunate because he was a funny guy, but I guess he lived a good life, so good for him.
R.I.P. |
Hey was very funny and will be missed!
|
Your kidding me? He was pretty young, 54 years old. Too bad.
|
Ritter I never got and never thought was remotely funny.
As for perspective on the age thing, given I'm 46, let me tell you folks 54 is only half way any more. Thanks for listening. |
This is very sad, news. Not much into shit-kicker music so I have no feeling about Johnny Cash, though I will say a pray for him too.
|
This came as a shock to most of us.
|
This guy was great, I was shocked when I saw it on the news today.
What a loss to the entertainment world :( |
John Ritter Dies of Heart Problem
Prolific funnyman John Ritter, who got famous playing a bumbling young ladies man and recently made a comeback playing the bumbling overprotective dad of two young babes, died suddenly of a previously undetected heart problem, his reps said Friday. He was 54.
Ritter, who would have been 55 next week, collapsed on Thursday night while filming ABC's 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter. The former Three's Company star was rushed to the Providence St. Joseph hospital in Burbank, California, across from the studio where he had been taping. But doctors at the hospital were unable to save him, and he died shortly after 10 p.m. from a "dissection of the aorta," an undetected flaw in a main artery from the heart, according to his publicist. Ritter was accompanied to the hospital by the show's producers, coworkers, his wife and Problem Child costar, Amy Yasbeck, and his 23-year-old son Jason. "It's just stunning, unbelievable," his assistant of 22 years Susan Wilcox told reporters. "Everybody loved John Ritter. Everybody loved working with him...Whatever set he was working on, he made it a very fun place." ABC released a statement saying, "All of us at ABC, Touchstone Television and the Walt Disney Company are shocked and heartbroken at the terrible news of John's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children at this very difficult time." No news at this time whether ABC will cancel the series in light of its leading man's passing. The son of western film star and country musician Tex Ritter, John graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in drama and went on to accumulate a long list of TV, film and stage credits. His first steady gig was a role as a minister in the early '70s series The Waltons. He went on to star in more than 25 TV movies and was a guest star on everything from M*A*S*Hand Hawaii Five-0 to Ally McBeal, which garnered him an Emmy nod, and Scrubs. But it was his role as swinging Jack Tripper in the '70s hit TV series Three's Company, opposite Suzanne Somers and Joyce DeWitt, that really cemented his place in the pantheon of pop culture. Ritter won an Emmy, a Golden Globe and a People's Choice Award for the role that stretched from 1977 to 1984. He followed up Three's Company with roles in several unmemorable series, including 1987's Hooperman and 1992's Hearts Afire, and didn't tap back into TV gold until 8 Simple Rules. Despite the close to 30-year gap, Ritter managed to reconnect with sitcom audiences with last year's 8 Simple Rules as the befuddled father of two precocious teenage girls, Paul Hennessy. The show, due to begin its second season September 23, was one of ABC's core programs, scoring a People's Choice Award for its first season. When not making TV audiences laugh, Ritter flexed his acting chops in noted movies such as Sling Blade and Tadpole and not-so-notable flicks Bride of Chucky and the aforementioned Problem Child sequels. He had just wrapped production on Bad Santa, a comedy with Bernie Mac and Billy Bob Thornton due to hit theaters in November. Ritter had also appeared in more than 50 plays, including a recent nine-month stint in the Broadway premiere of Neil Simon's The Dinner Party. The Los Angeles native leaves behind wife Yasbeck and their daughter, Stella, and three children, Carly, Tyler and Jason, from his first marriage to Nancy Morgan. |

2 johns in one day. |
Even though i never met the guy, and don't really know shit about him aside from the characters he's played it still a sad day. And Cash too. What a double letdown post this was.
|
I've always liked Johnny cash and John ritter even though they were both a little before my time.
I called my dad to tell him Johnny cash died and he tells me about ritter. Its a sad day. They were both great entertainers. RIP guys. |
Momento Mori.
John Ritter - Funny Man, we will miss you... Johnny Cash - Legend in Country Music, No one walked the line like you did... Goodbye to both, I hope to see you later. |
Johnny Cash was no surprise - his wife passed away only a few months ago, and as close as they were for so many years, it's no surprise he joined her so soon. What I found surprising was that he was only 71. Like they say, it's not the model year - it's the mileage - and Johnny had plenty of mileage.
John Ritter, on the other hand, is <i>such</i> a shock - my prayers to his wife and 4 children. R.I.P. to both. |
I'm just glad Ritter went out swinging with a successful show, instead of disappearing into straight-to-video movies or infomercials. A lot of respect for that guy. He really surprised me in Sling Blade.
|
I was shocked as hell when i heard this. I mean, he's young, he shouldn't have died this early.

Found this on a fans page. http://www.fluffytails.ca/johnritter.asp "It aired from 1987 to 1989. John played Detective Harry Hooperman who inherits a run down apartment building in need of help. He hires Susan Smith (Deborah Farentino). A relationship follows and Hooperman must juggle work, love, plus the antics of Bijoux the dog." I always liked the dog. Too bad it did not run longer. |
What an awful shock to wake up to this morning. I just couldn't believe it when Mr. Quackers told me before going to work. What a sad, sad thing for his family, children and the entertainment world.
|
bummer, ritter didnt seem to be even 55, but i guess he has been in tv for almost thirty years
|
This is really a sad day....I grew up watching Three's Company. And his performance in Sling Blade was Oscar worthy.
RIP, and prayers to his wife and children. |
John Ritter will live on in 3s Company reruns. I loved that guy. I too loved Hooperman and thought he was great in Sling Blade. Problem Child was good too. He was too young. RIP.
|
I have always enjoyed the antics of John Ritter and he will be truly missed. My condolences to his family and to those he was recently working with.
|
John Ritter.
Love to make you Laugh. |
Condolences to the fallen
|
Gone but never forgotten...John Ritter was so young.. it makes me think about how any of us could die at any time..We can't take life for granted...my condolences
|
His work in "Slingblade" was quite impressive.
|
R.I.P. to both of them, but I didn't know who Ritter was until I was told yesterday that he starred in "Three's Company". However, Johnny Cash...yikes, that's crazy. I had high hopes for him to come back ever since he missed the VMA's...but he didn't. I'm not a huge country music fan (even though I live in Tennessee), but I always enjoyed his work.
I can only speak for Cash, but undoubtedly both will be missed. |
