I Get To Vote YES!!!!!

Yes, finally I get to vote, I turned 18 last year and there havn't been any vote's till now. Ontairo is electing a new premier or something, I don't even know but I don't really care, I'm just going to go and vote for whoever has the coolest name. I like to do my part to screw up democracy as much as I can :)

bundy 09-09-2003 06:35 PM

WHOA there! Canada is decidedly NOT democratic. :)

I would typically describe both Canada and the United States as "democratic republics", but that is not 100% accurate either.

Canada's a constitutional monarchy, but even that's kinda fudged.

I don't want just any ol' recall, I want a Total Recall. I'm going to do the best for the little ones, we need a Kindergarten Cop. And make sure every pencil has an Eraser.
Grey Davis is telling nothing but a Predator telling True Lies. So he'd better act like The Running Man and get out of here before The Sixth Day. Bustamante is just a Barbarian like Conan and will surely bring about the End of Days, we don't need him, we need a Terminator.

So vote for Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Last Action Hero and a Terminator 2.

well, YAY for TFP then.

and YAY for Dalton McGuinty, because Macheath said so.

I don't vote because there is never a candidate who is worth my vote. At think point I figure no one could do much worse.

Hard8s 09-09-2003 08:44 PM

I don't think I'm going to vote for anyone who won't tell us what he stands for. Arnold has yet to go to any debate, no one really knows how he feels about any issue. Just because he is an actor does not mean he knows how to run a state!

I know Gray Davis looks bad to some people, but look at the others running. Bustamante wants to put a casino everywhere, Huffington is living on tax loopholes that she voted in, Schwarzanegger is afraid to speak in an open forum where he doesn't already have his lines, Ubberoth just pulled out, and I have no idea about McClintoch. At least I know what kind of crook we have now and the types of things he will do. The worst thing Davis did was react badly to the energy crisis. If he would not have bought all the electricity with state monies, sure we would've had rolling blackouts, but this Enron stuff would have come up much sooner, and the state would not be in such bad debt. But everyone was screaming for him do to something, now looking back, if he would have done nothing it would have been better for him.

Besides, there was an election less than a year ago. Do you remember that? That was your chance to get him out of office. If all you are looking at is "we had a surplus and now we have a deficit" Well surprise George W. Bush is doing the same damn thing, but with the WHOLE country!!! When is that recall going to start?

I am 25, Livin in the G.T.A. (Greater Toronto Area) I have not voted once..They all suck anyways.

But lately, I have been thinking about this Election..What each of them are going to do..Or Maybe do. And who I would vote for.

Damn...I guess all this was gonna get to my head eventually.

chavos 09-09-2003 09:58 PM

congrats! it's a wonderful feeling, and a serious responsibility, so vote early, vote often...just in different elections! ;)

Peryn 09-10-2003 10:14 PM

Well congratz on voting, even if you dont know what. you are still a better person than most out there that dont vote.

As for what kind of system we use in the states, i believe its actually called a Representative Democracy. we are NOT a full on democracy. We elect people to do a lot of the voting and speaking for us.

As for the CA thing, i dont wanna hijack the thread too much. THat belongs in the politics section. BUT, Arnold has spoken out on the issues on many nationaly sindicated talk shows. He has been asked about almost every issue facing us. I now know where he stands on almost every issue i could care about, and until this mcClintoch thing gets settles, hes got my vote. We elected Davis last year and now he is not doing his job. What is wrong with having the provision in our constitution to remove an ineffective governor who is not doing what he promised, let alone what the state requires to keep it from collapsing.

Sorry about the thread hujack, but congratz on getting to vote. Even if you do not know who or waht for, you are doing your part for your country and it is a fun experience. Enjoy it. You now have the power.

It's all good, this was a sort of throw away thread anyway, any hijack is welcome. Ya, the whole CA thing basicly makes me want to move there just to vote for funny people. I havn't been following the runners close enough to really have an opinion but I think if I did vote it would be for one of the movie related people like larry flint or that child star dude, I forget his name. Because I mean, it's so trivial in my opinion, people getting elected becuase of their acting skills. I love it. :)

Cynthetiq 09-11-2003 06:43 AM

:) vote :) it's your right and your responsibility. there is no perfect system, but at least you are part of one that allows for change.

viejo gringo 09-11-2003 06:57 AM

--just don't let it be your last---your vote does count.

Here in Texas we have early voting,,,I just finished voteing on
22 amendments to the Texas constitution---these will all become laws that effect us all.

of coarse it you lived in Chicago you could early and vote often.

when Mayor Daily was alive, half of the people in the cemetarys voted..

MacGnG 09-11-2003 02:27 PM

my voters card came in the mail at home a few days ago :)
