Whats the symbolism behind "Rock, Paper, Scissors"
sumthing like paper is money, scissors is brains i think

this is the sort of question the Internet was made for.
anyone can do a search for this sort of thing. the answers are going to be the same as anyone else would find who did the research. for example: http://www.straightdope.com/mailbag/mrockpaper.html http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...=Google+Search etc... Try a different approach to making a thread rather than asking a question that is better put to a search engine. |

how ever did we make it through life without google?
|
well then can someone finish mine? Brains(Scissors) over Money(paper)...........
|
I'll bite:
Rock == beauty See: Beauty can be bought, and Beauty can defeat rational thinking |
I think Rock, paper, scissors stands for " something to bother others with when you want to play" At least thats how I see it. Sigh.
|
so money over beauty but beauty over brains?
i remeber seeing a fastlane episode where they discuss us, thus the thread, anyone see that episode |
I think that the Rock stands for Brawn.
That's why you can beat brawn with Paper (money) but not Scissors (brain), because you can always pay off or bribe a goon but you can seldom reason with him. |
i think u got it, makes most sense
Power over Brain-this one seems odd Brain over Money Money over Power |
little too much free time but i think its kewl that someone thought of asking that.
by the way i have no clue but ill go along with ya |
Yeah, cool idea - I never thought about its origins. It always seemed just fine as an arbitrary thing to me :D

i´ve got to say... i ´ve never considered the symbolism in this game.
i´ve always found it and the people who indulge in it to be irritating... like my professor, who heads the university team for paper scissors rock. but i think the symbolism, money, brains and power, well, i think that adds an interesting aspect to it. hang on, no, that interest has gone. |
Well I'm glad he made this thread, because had he looked it up on his own, he might have become satisfied and never mentioned it. I didn't realize it was such an old game and had any symbolism behind it... now I've learned something knew thanks to this thread! Thanks man!
