The ANTIQUE Thread
Yes,
Here it is, a place to expand on your love of ANTIQUES, be they old baseball cards, clocks, furniture or what have you. I love antiques. I love the concept of their history, that they are a time capsule of culture, wants, and desire that no longer exist. I look at my victorian chair and I wonder who sat on it, what did they do, how did they die, what long twisting path it took to me. My favorite antique things: -Scientific gadgets. I love science anyway, so l love old balances, telescopes, microscopes and scientific minutia. -furniture. I like victorian, renaissance revival, second empire, federal, gothic and rococo. I especially like marble topped tables. -CLOCKS and Victorolas! More gadgets from the past, I LOVE old clocks of all types, I have 3 now and want MORE! I also love old edison phonographs, both cylinders and disks. I don't own one, but it is on my short list of things I WILL own one day. -weapons. I don't know why, but I've always liked weapons, both ancient and modern, be they swords, pole arms, crossbows, or firearms. My prize is a Japanese sword my uncle (RIP) got in the south pacific during WW2 (yes, off a dead japanese officer). I also have a great old wooden bow and a couple of swords (need more tho!). I have a gun collection, but only two would be considered 'antique' and then not even quite, as they aren't yet 100 years old.

My fav antique is clothes, watches, lighters and pens from the 20s-60s. After that it all got crappy and mass produced.
It's not really as big of a hobby with me as I would like.

Big market for watches, lighters, and pens.
I have a few old pens, (I like old fountain pens), but nothing to speak about. I'll own a REALLY good antique pocket watch one day as well (also on my short list). Head over to the Brass Armadillo if you like that stuff. I'm sure you already know about the joys and dangers of South Broadway.

Since I live in NYC area (and soon to live in the city itself again,) I love the old buildings they are just old enough. I know that if I lived in Europe I'd probably have more to ponder since there's more centuries for the buildings to have withstood.
As far as smaller antiques, well, there's plenty of them to list too, but I love the oldies, Far Eastern art and vases to Grecian vases and Eygptian artifacts.

I have a shit load of old coins from my Grandfather. Most are from the mid to late 1800's. Lot's of silver dollars and even two gold coins. He liked to collect them for most of his life. He did a lot of traveling when he was young so I now have coins from all over the place.
