Viruses of this planet
i had some trouble deciding if this should go in philosophy or here, so guess where i put it? if it's in its wrong forum, feel free to move. thanks.
ok, my brother brought this to my attention a while back. you know how there are constantly new viruses that plague our bodies. and when we find them, we try injecting a weaker strain of the virus into our bodies so that our bodies may use our immune system to get rid of the virus. but sometimes, our immunizations only cause the virus to evolve into something else, more potent and more dangerous. it was as if the virus learns to deal with what dangers we subject it to and evolve into something stronger. now what if, the earth was a living thing. and we humans are viruses. there is no doubt that we are defacing the earth and pretty much destroying it. what if all the viruses that we come upon (polio, smallpox, HIV) was the earth's way of getting rid of us, the viruses to the earth, yet we manage to find a way to stay alive and fight it. it would be an endless cycle of one virus trying to kill the other. i thought it was weird yet interesting so i thought to share it. |

thats an interesting idea...
the idea that we are viruses destroying a "body" has been around for quite some time. i'm not sure how feasibly of an idea it is... but it certainly is interesting to say the least.

I think this thought was posed in the Matrix, when Neo was captured. Good point, but the humanitarian side of me has to disagree

Like all living things, humans populations cannot be allowed to grow out of control. The planet has a maximum capacity it can support, and disease is one of the natural mechanisms that control populations. We resist the diseases by developing medications and vaccines resulting in the mutations in the diseases so that they can continue to restrict our population.
In the last few centuries, we have advanced too quickly. Human populations in the last thousand years or so have increased so dramatically that nature needs to find a way to reverse it. Sooner or later, some super virus or bacteria will emerge and probably wipe out a large portion of the human race. It is nature's way, and it is inevitable. |

Just something that my statistics teacher said, might be true, but I haven't looked into it all that much. Without immigration, the US population would decrease every year (more deaths than births).
Now, not that reflects the world population, but it's odd kinda.
