Post and run

I've noticed something about myself recently. I come across a thread that interests me, post a comment, and neglect to ever read the thread again. Why do I do that? What is wrong with me? Sure there are a few threads I stick with and post more than once in but for the most part, I post and run.

Is there a support group or something for that? Is this post a waste of time since I probably will never see it again?

What about you? Do you post and run or do you show responsibility for your words by sticking around and seeing a thread through?

IC3 08-23-2003 07:35 AM

If I make a thread, Then I always try to remember to post in it...But If I just post....Say in this thread, I most likely will not come back to this particular thread...Or atleast not post in it again.

Not sure why this is though.

Nisses 08-23-2003 08:28 AM

How about we put a support group together? the IT's, Irresponsible Tiltees.

I know I sometimes catch myself thinking: what happened to that thread anyway, I posted and never looked back. (actually, over half the threads I post in are that way...)
Maybe there's something seriously wrong with us

rmarshall 08-23-2003 08:37 AM

Quick, let's all say bad things about IC3, Nisses & JumpinJesus!

They'll never find out!

Magpie0001 08-23-2003 08:37 AM

Not me, Sometimes I loose track but in general I stick around to see what others think about what i said.

RoadRage 08-23-2003 09:26 AM

I watch it until it falls off the first page, unless someone said something to piss me off, then I just stop reading it unless I think they deserve a well-thought response informing them that they're a fucking idiot.

Nizzle 08-23-2003 10:12 AM

If you turn email notification on by default, you'll get mail whenever someone replies to a thread you're involved in.

Kind of annoying, but useful if you're trying to keep track of everything. I use a throwaway email address so it doesn't spam my normal inbox.

The_Dude 08-23-2003 10:16 AM

if the thread is interesting, i'll definately come back to it.

no offense to u jumpinjesus, but i'll prolly never come back to this one.

i do that, but for some reason, there are a lot of threads that i'll post on and never get a notification that people are still posting. it doesn't seem to want to subscribe me to all of them when i merely post.

Yeah, I get that too. I'm not sure if it's a bug or I'm overlooking something. If all else fails, there's a subscribe link.

WhoaitsZ 08-23-2003 11:58 AM

i tend to forget my own threads, so....

YourNeverThere 08-23-2003 01:50 PM

Man I was thinking about that the other day, sometimes at night when trying to get to sleep I go "OH ya!" and have to get on the net and see if anyone noticed what I posted, but the never do :(
actually I just remebered a post that was good that I should check up on.

WhoaitsZ 08-23-2003 03:39 PM

i wish YNT would post sometime... not that i'd notice...

YourNeverThere 08-23-2003 10:17 PM

What thread is this? Where am I?

Reese 08-24-2003 06:27 AM

I always check back at least once to threads I've replied to just in case someone responds to my reply. I really don't like abandoning a thread if it's possible that my views are going to be debated. However if my reply doesn't merit a response I won't look back.

BrinlyNoya 08-24-2003 07:56 AM

unless I say something I think is particularly witty, or post a picture I took, or a photoshop I did.. I pretty much speak my piece and run too.. I do this because I don't have a whole lot of time.. but I love feeling apart of a community.. maybe I should join the self help group too!

Akira 08-24-2003 08:01 AM

I go back for my post, but usually it's hard to keep track of where all your post are because they drop from the top pages all the time.

JumpinJesus 08-24-2003 08:37 AM

I made it back. One day at a time. It's nice to know that I'm not alone. You're right, a lot of times I forget where and what I posted. I suppose that's why they have those little dots on the thread markers so idiots like me can remember where we've posted.

majik_6 08-24-2003 10:51 AM

Wow, it's good to know I'm not the only one with this issue!

All this time I'd been thinking I must have been the most forgetful/lazy/busy poster on the boards, but this thread has made me feel much better!

MichaelFarker 08-24-2003 11:10 AM

I usually follow threads I've posted in. It's easy to search for my own username.

nostalgic1 08-24-2003 11:31 AM

yeah.. it has to be an interesting thread for me to come back and post or even read again... i very rarely even post twice in the same thread... its just not me...

Spinach_Indeed 08-24-2003 11:36 AM

In threads that intrest me, or that I ask a question in, I'll visit back to see responses. I do resolve never to return to this thread again though. It's not interesting enough. SOMEONE ENTERTAIN ME.

etla 08-24-2003 02:44 PM

This is why I find email lists much superior to web forums. It's impossible to keep up on most forums. Where as if I don't read a mailing list for a few weeks the mail just piles up and I can read it at my lesiure sorted by subject.

Orwell was also concerned about the decay of language. The Party was in favour of "Newspeak", a language in which it was impossible to express a politically incorrect thought.

grayman 08-24-2003 11:01 PM

I almost always start my sessions here by searching on my own username to check if anything has happened in threads I have posted in. I come here for the interaction, and that really seems to help. Pathetically, even when I posted primarily in the Titty Board, I often checked back to see if anyone had responded to my witty (I thought) comments. Sadly, it never happened, and I was forced to venture out into the actual community. Oh the horrors!

lt1s10 08-25-2003 01:30 AM

I will check back on threads I post in. The problem is I don't check the forum as often as I like so I'm usually late into threads and they die as soon as I post or shortly thereafter.

We'll see what happens to this thread now.
