I was just about to say that you should be high-tailing your ass outta there ... Nice pictures ... Crazy how it can spread so quickly if given the chance.

pagliachi2003 08-17-2003 03:03 PM

Those pictures are awesome!

Jerpitcher 08-17-2003 04:44 PM

At first glance, the first picture you posted looks like a painting of a plane going down! Upon further inspection though, I realized what it was...thats a great photo!

themilk 08-17-2003 07:08 PM

those pictures are better than what you see on the news!

Fly 08-17-2003 08:06 PM

yup...the fires are rippin' it up in B.C.

not a good thing....alot of homeless people out there.

i hope they're okay.

crfpilot 08-17-2003 10:12 PM

Wow, great pictures, I especially like number 1, 5 & 6.

bundy 08-18-2003 05:52 AM

great pictures.

but its such a shame that the fires are so destructive.

i´m from Sydney, so i know just how big bushfires affect you. and my heart goes out to all of those affected.

Australian bush needs the fire to regenerate, so in a (harsh) way, the fires are necessary. but how do these fires affect the beautiful BC wilderness?

Averett 08-18-2003 05:54 AM

I have a friend who lives in Alberta, he's been telling me how bad its been out there. Hope you guys get rain soon...

Gortexfogg 08-18-2003 06:03 AM

Those are just spectacular pictures. The two with the plane are my favorites. That second helicopter one is cool too.

Hopefully those fires will be out soon.

lurkette 08-18-2003 06:33 AM

Those are pretty amazing - thanks for sharing them! I hope things blow over soon.

jwoody 08-18-2003 06:38 AM

On the subject of bushfires, these are a few pictures from the fires that hit here back in january. They took out something like ~300 houses within about a 3KM radius of where I live. Left me without power for ~4 days.

The second one gives you an idea as to just how much smoke was around at the time.

More images avaliable at:

Edit: gah, fixed the "more images" url.

JBX 08-18-2003 07:28 AM

Sux to be living on one of those hills.

TIO 08-18-2003 07:56 AM

flyman, your signiature line looks a bit tasteless under those photos...

Dave, you were in those fires? That was some scary shit, even from over here in Perth!

There were about 5 houses lost at the other end of my street. I guess we should just feel lucky that more people didn't die at the time (I believe the final total was 3).

Keg-o-Grog 08-18-2003 09:36 AM

poor forest

The_Dude 08-18-2003 09:45 AM

great pic's, the shots with airplanes/choppers look like they're from gta vice city. :D

Mango 08-18-2003 09:57 AM

I was watching those bombers filling up in Christina Lake this weekend. Pretty cool to see a plane filling with water at 50-70kph as it roars down the lake. I have never seen as many bombers flying in and out of the Castlegar tanker base as there are right now.

Vyk 08-18-2003 10:31 AM

very cool pictures. Awesome to see that in action.

Cynthetiq 08-18-2003 11:59 AM

hope you and yours are safe

MacGnG 08-18-2003 02:39 PM

i saw a tv show about those guys, they work hard to put those fires out.

the choper in pic 6 with the long lanyard....refilled a few times in our lake will i was on vacation.

every morn' at 7:30-8ish he'd head out to the fires, and at night...same time.....12 hr. shifts i guess......he'd fly home.

he grabbed water on his way out three or four times...just for extra i guess.

he only did it in the morn so i figure they were pluckin' out of a diff lake.

still burnin' up there too.

Low growing brush needs to be cleared out so that the big trees can thrive. The underbrush can choke out the saplings. California has discovered that by strict fire prevention they've severely damaged the Sequoia (sp?) forests. Seems the seed pods need heat to open and germinate. Sad as it looks, some fires are neccessary. Damn shame about the human loss, though.

(grumpy watches PBS;) )

killerjoejoe 08-18-2003 09:09 PM

thats killer man...im up here in alberta...we never get fire like those but we get a few good in size too.

phoenix1002 08-18-2003 09:42 PM

Forest fires are kinda like nature's forest enema. Unfortunately, people and/or houses sometimes are in the wrong place at the wrong time...

Fly 08-25-2003 03:43 AM

here's some shots of the fire in Kelowna

(and again....i did not take the pics)

ya' it's getting fuckin' worse here now.no rain in sight.
everything is burnin' up.

cchris 08-25-2003 09:19 AM

The weather down here at present indicates a very harsh summer ahead.
We have not had enough rain this winter to get us through and it is painful that despite past history there is still no fucking planning by those that are there to do so.
We can only wait and hope that lessons have finally been learnt.
