How many hours a day do you spend on the computer?

...AND HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?

I posted a thread in tilted entertainment asking how long people could go without T.V. and quite a few people said they could go without T.V. for a while but not the internet. So here's this poll.

From surfing the net, to listening to music, to doing homework, to programming, how many hours do you spend at a computer total during an average day?

Considering carpal tunnel, eye strain, lack of sun (unless you use a computer outside), lack of sleep, lack of food (unless your computer is edible), lack of exercise (unless you run with your computer), etc. is it a bad thing to spend too much time at youre computer screen?

Could you go without a computer/internet (except to post at TFP, of course :D )?

How long could you go without one?

micah67 08-10-2003 01:36 PM

Work. Home. It's my life.
But I can go on vacation for a week or two and not miss it too much

The_Dude 08-10-2003 01:47 PM

2-7 right now durin the summer cuz i dont have much to do.

otherwise it would be < 2

drawerfixer 08-10-2003 01:49 PM

Whenever I get bored, I hop on the computer. So I probably average 8 hours a day. :P

Halx 08-10-2003 01:51 PM

I and my computer are the same entity

Diablo 08-10-2003 01:55 PM

7-12 and It has nothing to do with my job.

Yeah I know, I'm pathetic. But I think the more pathetic thing Is that I actually find things to do for that much time every day o_O.

Mr. Spacemonkey 08-10-2003 02:01 PM

I'm on my computer quite a bit, i would say around 7 or 8 hours a day. I don't think i could go that long without using the computer. I might be able to last a few days if i absolutely had to.

sixate 08-10-2003 02:08 PM

During the week about 5 to 7 hours. Mostly at night when I'm home. The weekend can be much higher if it's shitty outside.

edit: I've been on my PC about 15 hours today. I think about 8 hours of that was playing UT2K3. It was raining this morning so I didn't even bother going outside.

wraithhibn 08-10-2003 02:09 PM

When I came home from school this year, my mom said I had a moon tan, cause I spend all of my time on the computer, so I guess thats too much.

Silvy 08-10-2003 02:23 PM

Funny thing.. I live in my computer.. But when I'm on vacation I'm not least bothered by missing it...

/weird.

Anyhow since I started posting here, my computer has taken my personality... I'm stuck :)

TwistedFate 08-10-2003 02:26 PM

over 12 hours a day. I work at home on the computer. I play at home on the computer. I look for a better job at home on the computer. My computer is set up so that by looking slightly to the left I can refocus from the monitor to the TV.

cliv 08-10-2003 02:32 PM

Workdays: It's on all day at work and then maybe an hour or two at home

Weekends: Varies from 0 to 6+ hours (depends on IM and what game I'm playing)

BBtB 08-10-2003 02:43 PM

I said 7-12 hours. Its actully somewhere between there and 2-7. If you don't count work then its probably about 4 to 5 hours a day.

ARTelevision 08-10-2003 03:41 PM

I'm always 24/7 connected to the Net.
I thought that was the idea?

skysooner 08-10-2003 03:46 PM

I use the computer 6 to 8 hrs a day at work (and I'm considered the best engineer on a computer in our company), and I like to come home and have fun on one (games, message boards, etc.). I draw the line at spending time on the computer though when it interferes with my family time hence I'm usually on at home very late at night after the wife and kids have gone to bed.

Stare At The Sun 08-10-2003 04:01 PM

7-12 easy, if im not out, im on the comp, end of story.

YourNeverThere 08-10-2003 04:06 PM

I do have my computer outside usually, so lack of sun is no prob, Im on 7 to 12, but i am doing online high school credits, so its not that bad.

MichaelFarker 08-10-2003 04:10 PM

It's been 8 hours a day lately, since someone just gave me Age of Mythology.

TRPF 08-10-2003 04:12 PM

Very little in the Summer. Too much in the winter (cold outside).

Memalvada 08-10-2003 04:18 PM

Since I've got nothing to do, I sit here round 6-8 hours a day, mostly here and/or chatting with my friends.

cchris 08-10-2003 04:37 PM

Roughly two hours only at work.
Once home it's about a five or six hour stretch depending on what interests me on the day.

World's King 08-10-2003 05:07 PM

It's the only thing left that still loves me.

Kaos 08-10-2003 06:22 PM

Probably more than I should...usually a 3-4 hours a day, sometimes more, sometimes less.

tinfoil 08-10-2003 06:24 PM

'll put in 8-12 a day, with 8 of those being whilst at work. Since the original poster didn't specify whether or not it was work related I assumed it was.

Mephisto2 08-10-2003 06:35 PM

8-12 hours a day, with some days reaching up to between 16 and 20.

That's what you get for working with a team globally distributed between the US, Australia and Europe... you have to be awake all the time!

Mr Mephisto

spectre 08-10-2003 06:39 PM

Too damn many. Once classes start again it'll be less, but still way too many.

absorbentishe 08-11-2003 07:47 AM

Everything I do is on the PC, and when I'm not at work (10 hrs+ a day), I almost forget it's existance. I'll go online in the evening, after the kids are in bed, and the laudry is done, but if I don't, then oh well.

Nisses 08-11-2003 07:58 AM

8 hours while working
then get home and check comics, boards, and sites for a total of 1 hour or more. Then I get to chatting and/or playing games for another hour or more. Then checking the boards again, then maybe some Divx movie or episode, or in the unlikely case of something decent being shown on TV, I go watch that :)

ninety09 08-11-2003 08:01 AM

2-7hrs. Still too much time

SiN 08-11-2003 08:05 AM

7-12hrs. "I want them to hook it to my viens."

/me licks her computer :p

neoinoakleys 08-11-2003 01:39 PM

I am a programmer, I am taking online courses and I run a web development company....I spend ALOT of time in front of the computer....nuff said..

theinfamous 08-11-2003 01:57 PM

all 9 hours at work...then maybe 1 at home if i'm not sick of it already

amge 08-11-2003 02:20 PM

Let's see 8 to 8.5 hours at work, Then 2-4 hours at home. Plus with the TV tuner in the PC at Home I can watch TV and work on the computer all at once. I think I can live with out the TV.

I think. I don't want to try to find out though....

My situation exactly. Except for the engineer part.

Blu2e354 08-11-2003 04:40 PM

IckUber 08-11-2003 04:41 PM

And then...now.

Jesus. I need to get a life.

rl33 08-11-2003 06:17 PM

Depending on the day I am on the comp about 5-7 hours a day.

Nizzle 08-11-2003 06:24 PM

The only time I'm not using my computer is when I sleep.

Of course, I get paid to use a computer. :D

juanvaldes 08-11-2003 06:28 PM
