Summer vaccations

Hello everyone. Just got back from an awesome vaccation to the beach. Nothing but a week's worth of pina coladas, surfing, and soaking up the sun. Made me wonder, where have the rest of you gone, or are planning to go, this summer?

My wife and I spent a glorious week in Mazatlan on the west coast of Mexico. It had the best climate and best overall beaches (outside of Cancun) that we have seen in Mexico. We also had good food, good strong drinks, and lots of nightlife. It was hands down the best vacation we have taken as a married couple.

I just came back last night from a trip to Lake Geneva, Switzerland (or Lake Leman, if you prefer). Very awesome. I posted a bunch of photos from the trip over here.

If you have no idea what its like on Lake Geneva, imagine a huge beautiful clean lake, surrounded by small medieval towns, castles, vinyards, etc. You can take a small riverboat across the lake to every town. The trip around the entire lake's length takes about 16 hours, round-trip, but its well worth it.

Oh I am SO coming back to that place...

Nothing that big, went to North Carolina, to Kill Devil Hills. Growing up in northern California, to me going to the ocean meant wearing a jacket, staying out of the water (too damn cold), and ignoring sunscreen because it's always so damn foggy.

I never realized that the ocean water could be warm enough to actually swim in and that the sun could actually shine on the beach. Then I started thinking about sharks and got out of the water.

Outter-banks, North Carolina, USA. It's a really nice place... I'd never been to the beach before, and being a computer nerd, didn't think I'd find it very much fun. Man was I wrong. :)

This has been a Cape May NJ summer for us - went for a week, do day trips, and going back for another week in a month...

I went to Philadelphia and New Jersey for 4 days to visit relatives a few weeks ago. The lack of clothing tax was awesome, along with the generally low tax on all consumer goods. I got to watch the US MTV too. It kinda blew though.

I also went to the outer banks this year. Nothing too special since I've been before but this go-round my b/f was able to join me.... makes a good family vacation great!

being Australian, i'm a big fan of the north coast of NSW......I logetting up to Byron Bay/Lennox Head and last summer we even made it up to North stradbroke Island. stunning.....

Too busy during the summer for any time off. We have the first week of November off though, so we're headed to the brother-in-laws condo near Sanibel Island in Florida. :)

I'm probably going to head up to the New River Gorge to go climbing. Of course, while I am there, I will spend a lot of time swimming and cliff diving in the Pirates Cove at Summersville lake.

Other than that, not a god damned thing.

For our senior trip early this summer, we headed to the Riu Jalisco donw in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It was my first time on a 'real' vacation, other than family reunions and camping trips. It felt really weird having someone serving my wishes, but after a few days got used to it, and began living the pampered life. I would highly recommend it to anyone, as the resort is all-inclusive, which means free food and drink...

Going to Cancun next week. Will get to do some cave diving around Akumal too.

quadro2000 08-21-2003 05:37 AM

I took all my vacation in February to go to Hawaii so my summer has pretty much been all work, which sucks. I've been able to take a day or two off here and there to go up to the Adirondacks for some waterskiing on a lake, which is my idea of a perfect vacation day - just chillin' on a boat and feeling the breeze.

I am currently in the middle of my first of two weeks off at the cottage...

Big beach, warm weather, warm lake, nothing to do but kick back and read...

1 week in Disneyland with the kids. 2 weeks in CO with my bf. (We especially enjoyed the bathing suit optional hot springs:D) It is amazing just how beautiful and diverse the USA can be.

Next summer hope to be a little more exotic -- planning a trip to New Zealand and Australia.

Yep. Supposed to be quite beautiful down there. I've only been in the caes of South Florida so this will be a new experience for me.

I spent a week at home alone while my wife was away at a convention.

Nothing spectacular happened, but it was one of the best vacations I've had.

canucker 08-21-2003 12:20 PM

I just spent two weeks with some friends in the Okanogan (B.C. Canada). Vernon to be exact. Drank, fished, waterskiide, wakeboarded, drank, fished, slept, drank etc etc, ohh and watched my Stampeders get there ass severly kicked by the lions one Friday night. That's about it.

punx1325 08-21-2003 03:53 PM

I went to Maryland for a few weeks. Mostly to relax, see family, and get away from it all. It rained most of the time, but oh well I had fun.

micah67 08-21-2003 05:56 PM

Spent a few days at Lake Powell before the crowd showed up. With water levels the lowest since it was filling 30 years ago, the lake is very different.

My b/f and I went camping there about a week ago. We had such a blast just spending time together not to mention lots of swimming! We hope to go back early fall with Greg and his g/f!

Speed_Gibson 08-22-2003 08:14 PM

no clue what this whole "summer vacation" thing is- last time I had a solid week off was when I worked at UPS and had a week or two off. Spent all of that time going to school.

This summer (just like last year) has been spent working M-F fulltime. I did have 5 days off (wednesday through sunday) for my sister's wedding recently though.

wiseguy1100 08-23-2003 11:15 AM

no big trip this year for us...

We went to Breezes in Bahamas with another couple for a long weekend (4 days). we're going to South Beach in Miami for Labor Day - looking forward to that as well.

This summer has sure gone by pretty quick!

ShtE Luck 08-24-2003 06:42 PM

Last summer, the first day to be exact, I took a trip down to the lake with some pals. Happened to be my birthday. One swing on the rope swing, 10 slipped fingers, 30 or so feet, 5 broken bones, 3 months of bed pan ville. I hate the summer now.
