slang for american

if your not from the united states, what slang word do you use for people who live in the united states?

ex: mexico = gringo...

MikeyChalupa 08-03-2003 09:00 AM

I think the Japanese refer to all westerners, but particularly Americans, as "gaijin"

My Aussie wife has referred to me (jokingly, I think) as a Seppo.

It's the colorful Aussie (or Cockney) Rhyming slang. Seppo is short for Septic Tank, which rhymes with Yank.

Jesus Pimp 08-03-2003 09:38 AM

gaijin..

more fire 08-03-2003 09:39 AM

i prefer to be referred to as a "foreign devil" or even better, an "infidel." makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to know they care.

MadGeek451 08-03-2003 12:00 PM

I think 'those ignorant assholes' sounds familiar...

btw, I'm American... just judging off how most the world hates us.

Otaku 08-03-2003 04:58 PM

definately the ole "septic tank".

bundy 08-03-2003 05:28 PM

seppo, and yank are the most common terms round here.

but we also have a term, ´...only in America´ - which refers to anything really strange... shows such as the Springer Show generate this term regularly.

hotzot 08-03-2003 05:36 PM

in asia alot of places still call us 'Joe' short for GI Joe

Don't assume what you see on Springer is what happens in all of America. That show's fucking weird, even for us. :)

XenuHubbard 08-03-2003 08:24 PM

People generally just shake their heads, with a sad little smile, while saying "Americans..."

LOL, yeah heard that one a lot. I guess that's due to how many people are over here in the US. Lots of people = plenty of odd balls.

Only in Amercia can a poor black boy grow up to become a rich white woman (In reference to Mike Jackson).

Yeah...but you can still make it! I think you'd have a really, really hard time filling more than an episode or two here.

I tend to use Seppo most of the time. It's Yank if I'm in particularly refined company.
(By the way, Southerners, please don't be offended, but to us, you're all yanks as well)

xman 08-03-2003 09:48 PM

Being American, I hear a good deal of "Stupid" "Idiot" and "Great Satan"

I need to stop watching the news.

I thought it was fake hair for a region somewhere slightly south of the chest...

jibs 08-03-2003 10:11 PM

I'd have to say yankee is the most common english term I've heard.

Thanks, phred, that about does it for me too.

Personally, I think "infidel" has a nice ring to it.

miked10270 08-04-2003 12:31 AM

I've heard a lot of terms used to describe Americans...! Most of the terms referring to the tourists in the LOUD quasi-Burberry check trousers & pink Pringle sweaters who parade annually around central Edinburgh trying to "prove" their Scottish roots by picking up some of their "Clan" Tartan.

At times it almost seemed a shame to tell them that there was NO clan "MacSchwartzenburger"... So one enterprising guy modelled what constitutes "Tartan" and now produces some very authentic looking check patterns through a computer controlled loom for anyone who wants one. He even keeps a database of the "New Clan names" so all the "MacSchwartzenburgers" who go to his shop all get the same tartan!

dragon2fire 08-04-2003 12:55 AM

hell some of us see the starange here and say only in america

MrFlux 08-04-2003 01:38 AM

"Bloody yanks."

Looften 08-04-2003 01:52 AM

Hmm, I haven't hear the Seppo one. Then again, I live in a farming town in the middle of the U.S.
