After acceptance into Canisius College and Villanova as well, I opted towards Northland College located in snow buried Ashland Wisconsin (along the southern side of Lake Superior). One semester in and I knew it was not the place for me so I started searching. I made it through that first year and then headed back east. The remainder of my undergraduate education was spent at City College which in those days still had reasonable standards even though it was a part of the City University of New York which in many ways even then had rather easy admission standards. Also, except for textbooks City had another advantage...it was still a freebie in those days; so, my part time employment monies went towards the things I wanted and needed.

I got a BS in Biology from Purdue University in Indiana. It's been a year and I've yet to find a biology related job, I'd be happy washing dishes in some assholes lab at this point...

I spent a year at Georgia Tech, studying computer science. The whole experience was so miserable that I gave up on not just the school, but computer science entirely. (Took me a year or so to realize I still love it, but studying it academically is pretty much out at this point).

Now, I'm at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, studying philosophy and a little creative writing (we don't have majors). I'm pretty sure I'm destined for grad school, but I'll probably take a year or two off before that.

GA Tech is one of the hardest engineering schools in the nation, I wouldn't feel so bad about not making it there [statistics show 1 in 2 people flunk out], my sister struggled terribly her first year there. Computer science is also a hard major, it's never too late to go back...hope you do change your mind about your true passion

Agreed. I am an engineer at Rose-Hulman, and I've got a number of CS-major friends. They have a number of courses that require a large amount of group work, and a big portion of their courses are project-based. It seems like an interesting major, but it would be tough for me. I just don't enjoy programming that much (although it is AWESOMELY fun in small quantities).

And Georgia Tech is a really, really tough school from what I've heard.

A diverse educational experience.

Darn, I'm so very uneducated as compared to a lot of folks here. But I shall list my educational endeavors, regardless.

1981-1983 Pissed around at Western Kentucky University (when I say pissed around, I mean didn't do much)
1987 Went through six months of missionary training
1990 Did 9 months of in-depth Biblical training
1994 Four months of Child and Youth Ministries training

And now, I'm beginning a new phase in my life, and I'm planning to study at Austin Peay State University here in TN to finally get a BS in either Poli Sci or Criminal Justice and communications.

In all honesty, I've learned from being a part of TPF just how very much I don't know! So I want to know more, in order to kick some major TFP butt!

I'm very seriously considering going into law (this would be my third career, and I'm 24). If I do decide to go back to school, I'll go to UC Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law. It's my favorite local school for law, and I know some people who could help with admissions.

snowy 09-04-2007 11:52 AM

Still working on my BA at Oregon State University...will hopefully finish this December.

It seems bad that I've been at this as long as I have been, but there are a couple of things that led to a 7-year-college career: 2 years off for health reasons, and a horrible advisor for the first four years I was there who did not do her job. Sigh. I WILL FINISH IN DECEMBER!!!

I hope to attend Portland State University for my M.Ed starting in June :)

Spektr 09-04-2007 01:22 PM
