What if TFP is down will anyone notice?

I was in DC the past few days, I was beat tired and did not check email at all yesterday after 12PM. I missed an email asking of I was working on the server because I plan on launching TFP v 5 this weekend.

Did you know it was down? What were you doing instead since you tried and could not get in. If you did not know what were you doing?

I feared it would never return. Plan9 and I talked about it for a little bit, until he told me to look up the Facebook page, at which point a Moderator got back to me (thanks Amonkie!).

I noticed that TFP was down around 12pm yesterday. So I noticed it pretty quickly.

I saw it was down, so I Googled to see if there was a Twitter account or FB account linked to it with a status update. I found a FB account, but it hadn't been updated since 2010 (or at least as far as I was allowed to see).

Fortunately, other things popped up referencing previous unexpected downtime, so I wasn't too worried.

I know I noticed in the morning. I just can't remember if it was yesterday morning or the day before. Everything blends together when I'm freakishly busy.

I noticed it at home yesterday. Thought it might be a routing issue, but then it was down at the office too, which seemed to eliminate that option. My plan was to ping you when I got home to see if there was anything I could do to help, but that's apparently no longer necessary.

From a practical standpoint, we really ought to have two people capable of dealing with these issues. I'm not saying me (frankly, with my sys admin stuff at work I'm not sure I'd have the time right now) but someone.

I discovered it when I got home from work yesterday. I figured someone was noodling around with the site. Then either last night or this morning there was a convo started on Google+, then a little later I had a little chat w. gg about it on fb, then I noticed monkie's announcement on fb...otherwise I waited. and watched four horror movies and a couple of episodes of gordon ramsay's kitchen nightmares with my kids.

I noticed I couldn't get on while I was at work on Tuesday, but my after work nap turned into not getting up until 6:30am this morning. I did not try at home. Then I tried again at work today and still couldn't get on. Tried on my iPhone and couldn't get it there either. I did try again at home while on lunch, but it wasn't working then either. I assumed y'all were doing something to it and that my work didn't get wise and block it.

Thanks for the FB update Amonkie!

I set up a google+ page for TFP for the future. I cross post stuff on Twitter to drive traffic to TFP. I will be doing the same for g+.

Google+ TFP Stream

---------- Post added at 08:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:28 PM ----------

I also have a backup of the server as of 6:00 today.

I was actually in the middle of posting something here when the server went down. My post was completely wiped out. Grrr. But, having spent my fair share of time on other internet forums, I know that downtime periodically happens and figured TFP would be back online soon enough. Which it is. Thanks to the admins for doing what they do.

Thanks, cynth, and the rest of the staff, too

I was working from home on Tuesday. I kept trying to load the page throughout the day, thought that either my home internet was problematic or I somehow misread a memo on TFP maintenance dates. When it wasn't working Wednesday morning, Dlish and I started contacting administrators.

While TFP was down, I watched copious amounts of TNG and planted stuff on my Farmville farm for the first time in months.

I tried to get on almost every few hours but that didn't work. Eventually I looked at the FB page earlier today but didn't see anything up to date. I also looked at a Twitter thing but didn't see anything. As I turned on my laptop at home a bit ago I planned to try to message a couple people on FB to see if they knew what's up, but then I tried one more time just now and it worked. I was getting quite concerned since I was in process of finding Ocm? in the "where in the world game" over the last couple days and then this hit!

I'm generally pretty busy so it's not like I suddenly had nothing to do. But I was hoping something bad didn't happen to cause a permanent loss. Related or not, it also reminded me to look when I last donated and then realized it's time again.

I didn't notice until today - I was the email to Cyn - but dlish was the one who asked me. It's kinda weird that all the admins weren't in places to deal with this when it happened.

The All-Star Game and Home Run Derby were pretty cool, by the way. Golf, however, was almost deadly.

At first, I wondered if my new computer had caused something to happen that I couldn't explain. So I went back over to my laptop and tried to check it there. No dice. I kept trying to check, because I really want low-carb diet advice right now and dammit, TFP is the place I want to get it from.

Well.. I didn't know what was going on and I panicked. I tried googled cached TFP to see if I could access the chatroom thinking it was hosted on a 3rd party site but that failed. Then I tried to see if anyone had any contact info on the site but couldn't find anything but an old IRC channel but I was too lazy to download an IRC client. Then I remembered I had some email contacts from the Mafia games so I checked my email but I'd already removed them... Then I saw there was a Mafia game for Starcraft 2 and I've been playing that for like 10 hours straight.. Someone come play Mafia in Starcraft 2 with me! I'll give you vent info!

Yes, I knew TFP was down, I double checked the site in different browsers, then my iPhone, then via a different internet connection, then finally via proxy, to make sure it was down for real and it wasn't me. I hadn't checked the site in a day or so, so I figured someone had passed the information along to you already. Next time, I'll shoot you a message just in case. And I was on Reddit, another forum, Google+, Minecraft, and LiveStrong all around the same time I wasn't on TFP when I might have been otherwise.

Do you need any help with anything?

And had a sad face because I'd missed you by a week.
I figured someone knew something... until about noon, today.

i was online just before it happened, and then it crashed... i wasnt sure it was down or whether cynthetic had brought the date of the upgrade forward, so i went to bed not thinking too much of it.

yesterday i didnt try till the afternoon and noticed it was still down, which is when i got in contact with CJ, roachboy and GG to see that it wasnt just me who was having issues with the site. Thats when me and GG decided to email cynthetic and Jazz.

glad to see it back.

Glad to find you well today and tfp was not the victims of a terrorist attack - I was told by son that some naughty people had threatened to cause a bit of a hullaballoo on various sites as some form of whatever. I didnt quite know what world chaos they would have hoped to unleash - is tfp a threat to those who want world censorship and domination? I too tried facebook.
I was so worried, that must be the reason I tried to pay my vet with a bus pass, and then came all the way home having left behind the drugs I had paid for. Bye bye more little grey cells - I wonder where they go when they are dead - mayhap off to play with the fairies.

I stayed there for a while reading articles.

Tried the chat, as well. No dice.
