...so to speak

I read the post of another user on here that I know (of) from another website I go to. This is the first time it's happened to me, and it totally surprised me. I didn't know he went on here, and he doesn't really know me (I lurk quite a bit on the other site too). The two websites are totally unrelated. Anyways, has this happened to other people? I don't mean you refer someone to another board or site and they go there to.. but I mean you go to another board/site and recognise someone else based on their username/comments/whatever.

It almost never happens to me. Curious, what is the other site?

I hope that I do not run into the one person, I am most afraid I will--my brother. He's the one that inadvertantly referred me here thru Fark and I don't know if he's here or not. Since there are so many Farkers & ex-Farkers, the possibility is pretty high.
If he is here though, I know he'd for sure be in Philosophy & Gaming and I'm not in either, so fingers crossed (of course, if he ever goes to the Exhib board or webcams, I'm sunk.)

he named one of my teachers and asked how he was doing...i was like wtf....he never replied back though.

Someone's avatar gave it away just recently for me but I will continue to respect their privacy until I get to know them better.

It's funny now that this has been brought up because I have given plenty of thought lately to people that might be posing as "Joe" and actually being "Fred".

Sometimes things and comments just don't seem right.
Must be my quirky nature.

This has happened a couple times for me. I'll see a topic posted here and the same exact topic and post elsewhere. I began to wonder if it is the same person or if someone is stealing other forum posts from sites and making them their own in other places to sound intellectual.

And you wonder if you're not good lookin'?? I didn't realize that Mastrap might be here. Be glad that certain other$ aren't, eh? :)

CChris: it's worse if they're showing up as "Francine" but they're really "Frank", wouldn't you say?

It's happened to me a few times. It was really odd seeing the same name in different places...

Ah, that is why I am discriminating in who I invite. ;) look around food for mas, but i idon't think i've seen him since The Crash.

Maybe pop back over to a previous location and see if you can scare him up?

there are a few more then that, old roommate chris, G4ME, etc... then chris (the_Dude) who we got to ban...and then I know there are a bunch of folks who lurk titties.

Nah, I just want to respect their privacy. I don't even really KNOW them, but I know they're on a different site. It's not you, if you're wondering hehe.

I've seen one person on another forum, they probably didn't recognize me (different name) and I've only invited one person here. I have, however, seen some people from high school on the titty board in peoples' personal collections, and I don't mean TFP members.

There's another member I know through friends. I don't think they know who I am, but I've stopped myself from PM'ing them a few times to tell them of the connection.

Somehow, it feels like a privacy issue. I don't want to "out" this person.:)

I have no doubt that there are a few people here from other forums I visit. I'm probably just the only one using the same nick in both places, so I'll be the last to realize it.

talk about using the same nick ;) here I'm BadNick. But for a couple of other car related forums that I frequent, I purposely tried to keep the same "handle" which happens to also include the "Nick" word.

Not that I've opened up and shared anything private or personal here yet, but even if I do I don't see any need to hide myself so if anybody thinks they know who I am, maybe they'll learn more about who I really am.

I'd say most people keep the same nick. I'm Taliesin here and on the SA forums.

I suppose the point is that you're either paranoid about what a bunch of fat anonymous geeks think about you, or you're not. I'm not.

I see people from here on Fark sometimes, but I don't talk to them on there.

Also I swear I saw SecretMethod70 posting on a cursor mod page, as odd as that sounds. I downloaded the same cursor set and love them.
