just F...ing lovely

just made a thread this morn about going back to work today, and i get a call from the shop and the job got cancelled.WTF is that shit.

anyone else get screwed by their boss?

do they not think people have freakin' bills to pay.

i know it's not their fault but a little better timing would have been nice.(bastards)

rogue49 04-22-2003 06:09 AM

Now that is a bummer, man.
I hope the scene gets better.

Do you have alternatives?

Fly 04-22-2003 06:16 AM

alternatives are few and far between.i do the odd side job here and there, but with this cloudy weather i'm not gonna rip a guys roof off just for the job.don't want it to rain in his living room.

i'm pretty outgoin' but if i don't have anything goin' by like 10am then it's tough to motivate yourself after bein' up since 5.

i guess i can finish painting my games room today.(don't get paid for that)

Peetster 04-22-2003 06:18 AM

Or you could hang out at TFP all day. You won't get paid for it, but think of the boobies!

Hope it works out for you, flyman.

I know this feeling all too well.

Quite a few years ago, this seemed to be the common occurance. I was recently let go from one school district because they privitized our building (sold our portion of the school to a private company which then came in and fired all the left over people from the Board of Ed). So I went back to substituting.

The school I was substituting in had an opening (teacher had a heart attack and was not returning). The Principal wanted to hire me, but the Superintendent wanted to hire some local Congressman's nephew. So I lost out there. And the substituting continued.

Then I found a position in another school, interviewed, and was practically hired on the spot. All I needed to do was sign the contract. They had me get them all the copies of the paperwork I needed to be able to begin working. So when I called to ask them when to bring them the paperwork, they said, "Don't bother, we hired someone else." Turned out that the daughter of a State Senator needed a job.

I went back to substituting... until something else came around.

That's the trick... you need something to fall back on until the right opportunity comes around. I've been in my present job 5 years now, and I'm thankful I kept my sanity throughout all the madness.

I wish you luck. Just make sure you keep your cool during all of this.

Sorry to hear that, FlyMan Hope it's a very temporary setback for you.

troit 04-22-2003 06:55 AM

sierra2774 04-22-2003 08:54 AM

the job market right now seems to be at an all time low.

JadziaDax it would seem that you should encourage your family to get into politics.

Get off your lazy ass flyman!! WORK, WORK, WORK damn it!! Your type make me wanna puke. Why, when I was young, I used to work from dawn till dusk 7 days a week. You young pups these days don't know what work is:D

Prophecy 04-22-2003 12:14 PM

I haven't been in your postion quite yet, but my job isn't a joyfull one to say the least. (To ppl quit b/c the stress got to them.) The boss man here is an ass plain and simple. I can't quit, b/c like everyone else I have bills, and finding another job is hard enough.
I don't expect my boss to the greatest man in the world but I do expect that he treats everyone equally. But no that's not what we get, we get two-faced crap. Here a few special people get there ass kissed by the boss b/c they've been here for a half a decade or more. My thing if you don't do your work why the hell should I have to do it? Okay, my complaining aside, I wish you the best of luck in your search and if you happen to find a good job with no b.s. find out if they have a second opening for me :)

Welcome to the life of the unemployed.

Pull up a chair, we're watching baseball.

scarebearjinx 04-22-2003 12:24 PM

i got a job at the laundry mat next to my dorm. i get up early monday morning and start getting ready for work. they call me about a half hour before i was supposed to be in and told me that they didn't need me anymore; before i even got to put in a second at work. turned out that the old guy had asked his wife that day they told me i was hired, to come in full time.

i8one2 04-22-2003 12:47 PM

thats sounds just like my roommate a contractor, who gets screwed weekly by his boss/bosses in just about the same way. That sucked!

Where one door closes another one opens.

cdwonderful 04-23-2003 08:34 AM

SaltPork 04-23-2003 08:38 AM

Flyman, I need a new roof and some other things done. You close to NH?

thadon 04-23-2003 08:44 AM

damn that sucks flyman ... I was laid off in 99 from E*Trade, the online broker co. and they said they would never have lay offs. I was there for 3 years & I did not get a severence or nothing. 2 years later they are making more layoffs and they are giving 6 month severence pactages and I was like WTF. Big companies suck. I feel your pain bro

phoenix1002 04-23-2003 08:47 AM

Damn... sorry to hear you got screwed over like that. The job market sucks these days. And of course I need to find a summer job so I can have money for college next year. Gotta love recession...

etla 04-23-2003 08:56 AM

Worst that happenned to me was the time I returned from vacation (my first after 28 months with the company) to find out I'd been laid off.

On the upside I needed a few days to recover from my vacation and I had a new position by the end of the week.
