Dead man hidden under Kansas City motel bed
Dead man hidden under Kansas City motel bed
Omaha World Herald Published Tuesday July 15, 2003 KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Workers at a motel found a dead man under a mattress Sunday while cleaning a room where a guest had spent three nights, complaining repeatedly about a foul odor, police said. The guest first complained about the smell when he checked in Thursday at the Capri Motel, just east of downtown Kansas City. But management told the man nothing could be done about the odor, Police Capt. Rich Lockhart said in a media release. The man checked out Sunday because he said he could no longer tolerate the smell, Lockhart said. Police were called around 11 a.m. Sunday after cleaning staff lifted the mattress and found the body of a man. The remains were not immediately identified. Wood panels around the underside of the bed hid the body from view. Lockhart said detectives believe the body had been in the room for several days because it was in an advanced stage of decomposition. Can you imagine being the guy that spent the 3 or 4 days in that room sleeping on the bed over the body? Eeewwww.

Turned out to be double occupancy after all. I'd ask for my money back.
There was a movie I saw on IFC where this happened. I think it was called "The Misbehavers" and featured two kids whose parents left them in the hotel room while they went somewhere. |

I'm amazed that the hotel didn't investigate the odor more and give the guy another room when he first complained. That's just bad business.
On the note of cleaning rooms. I've done it. It's amazing what people do to hotel rooms. Disgusting and putrid. I won't walk around my rooms without slippers or shoes on and I'm pretty careful about washing my hands often. I've known some girls who clean rooms who are pretty dirty in their job too. Cleaning the toilet before the sink. Ick. Also I always strip off the comforter and do not lay on top of it. They only wash those every month or so at most. Sometimes twice a year is all. Just imagine all the honeymooners and sex going on on top of those comforters. I am pretty careful about where I go and if the room doesn't look perfect I get picky. This is just gross though. Totally sick. Whoever put it there needs theire head cracked open and examined for future use.

That would be horrible to stay in that room. Like it was said above, I couldn't imagine walking into the room, let alone staying in it for three days.
At least the person staying in the room for the three days didn't discover it. On a side note; I can't believe the hotel just said there was nothing they could do about the smell. I bet the person that said that felt pretty dumb after they found the body. |

I remember a friend of mine getting fired from a hotel she worked at as a cleaner. She missed a dead cockroach near the nighttable and was fired. Kinda minor compared to this. I think I will call her.
