Ladies...what type of beard do you prefer? (Guys chime in too if you have one)

What is the type you like? Full...goatee? Stubble or full? I just grew a short goatee and the positive remarks (especially from the ladies) have stunned me. Just wanted to know...thanks

I like facial hair in all its forms. Goatee, soul patch, full bushy beard, mutton chops, chinstrap...whatever. I think it's all good.

LordEden 02-08-2011 06:31 PM

I like a beard that means I don't have to shave everyday.

keymaker 02-08-2011 06:33 PM

Thanks ladies. I wish I had a little less salt in the beard but I try to console myself with the "mature" thing...

MSD 02-08-2011 07:09 PM

I used to have a goatee, then just a goat, but I've been shaving once or twice a week recently. Trimmer on 1 gets me to stubble, one pass of the razor brings me down to five o'clock shadow, a couple more makes me pretty much clean shaven if there's an important event at work, and for anything black tie, a wedding, or if someone important like a foreign dignitary will be at work, I'll bust out the straight razor.

My ridiculous raggedy hobo beard tends to turn off most women because it looks very werewolf.

It requires no maintenance and only gets trimmed when it interferes with my ability to get laid.

I like not having to shave, especially since my pathetic male hormones don't make daily shaving viable. But they also don't allow me to have anything close to a full beard. My lady calls it "scruff" and she loves it, especially the salty bits!

genuinegirly 02-09-2011 04:58 AM

I love a little scruff, no matter its form. But if it's unmaintained, it gets old fast. 2 months of unattended beard ends up being more of a nightmare than a delight.

flat5 02-09-2011 05:34 AM

I would have to shave twice a day to really be clean shaven.
Instead I let it grow as it likes and use a shaver with the smallest plastic attachment to shorten it every two weeks. I get a haircut about four times a year.

Anormalguy 02-14-2011 06:20 AM

I've had a full beard (as full as my beard gets), and a Van Dyke (yes, I'm a geezer). My wife likes my beard once it gets long enough to be soft; she abosulutely does not like the intentional sandpaper or velcro .

bagatelle 02-14-2011 07:30 AM

The comedy reply would be: sideburns, because they tickle thighs nicely.

Sometimes it depends on the person or their age. My husband only shaves occasionally, he has very light (reddish even) scruff all the time. I'd rather see him keep it all shaven, he looks unkempt like that.

I don't like goatees at all, full beard is nicer and quite short is good. Moustaches look good on some men, but I like them short as well.

The Hollywoodian and Short Boxed Beard are the ones I like here:

You are missing the "ZZ Top", my personal choice when I had a beard.

These days, my beard is a very unattractive, splotchy mix of blond and gray. Maybe some day when it all goes gray, I'll try again. For now, I shave.

I've had a beard over half my life . . . . I shaved it off once many years ago; then realized that the reason I grew it was that I hated taking 5 minutes out of my day to shave. I keep it neatly trimmed, though - about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length (#5 on the trusty old Wahl), and shave from about the jaw line down. Funny . . . I've been married 20 years, and my wife has never once seen me without a beard. There's still more pepper than salt in it, but the ratio grows lower every day. My beard is a lot grayer than my hair; I'd probably look years younger if I shaved it off.

And being unemployed over two years now . . . I can certainly afford the 5 minutes to shave.

^^ That's one great looking beard - ynh!!^^

('course it doesn't hurt when someone's handsome to begin with...)

Happy Valentines Day to all the beautiful bearded Men here on our forum!

This would be in the "DON'T" beard category:

Salt and pepper beard? I didn't know what this meant, until now. Oh yes, it's very attractive. It's so unfair that men get sexier when they get a few grey hairs, but for women it's considered the opposite.

I'm with your wife! Ummmh, I mean I agree with your wife. I like clean shaven and I like beards. I Hate that 40 grit stubble look, or more accurately I hate the feel of it.

I've had a Van Dyke beard for years (it might be over... 20 years). It has mostly gone grey (the first grey hairs arrived with the knowledge my wife was pregnant with our first kid... I shit you not).

I like my beard because it gives me a stronger chin than I have without it. It also makes shaving much easier and less bloody. My wife likes it. I don't know why.

I've never had the patience to grow a full beard but I suppose I will try one day.

amonkie 02-16-2011 08:12 AM

I like the short boxed beard style the most. Had the muttonchops on guys before and they're nice to look at but they can irritate things very quickly.

Absolutely absolutely not a fan of a full beard. I have to read lips and it makes life difficult for me. It can be hard to find you sexy when I am frustrated I can't understand you.

streak_56 02-26-2011 10:09 PM

I have the short boxed beard, I love it because when I shave, I look my age, people think I'm 35+ with a beard... I also have lady friends, one of which is lesbien, who absolutely love the look of a beard, which is the only thing she misses about a guy....

The hair on my face
takes my fear way behind it
while eating your sauce.

I've had a mustache since I was a teenager, and had a neatly trimmed beard throughout my twenties. Traded it in for a 'van dyke' when I turned thirty. I'm forty-one now and grew my beard back last month and it was completely white! haha I shaved it off after a few days and went back to the van-dyke...Not ready to look like a white bearded old goat just yet.
