An unusual happy birthday

Back in March of 2010, I had to give my 4 chinchillas to Finally Home Chinchillas, a chinchilla rescue. They were being neglected where they were staying and I couldn't keep them where I lived at my Granny's, so I had to make sure they had a nice home and decided to give them up. They were in pretty bad shape, and Marne, who runs the rescue with her husband, has done a wonderful job taking care of them.

Tomorrow, two of the chins (brother and sister), Zaki and Adara, will be turning 3. I made a donation to Finally Home and wanted to put the information out there for anyone who is interested in making a donation, no matter how small, to contribute to the wonderful work that they do there to rehabilitate and find homes for wayward chinchillas.

Aww. That's lovely.

I had to give up my cats for adoption when both my wife and I developed allergies a few years ago, and it was very sad (even though we knew they hd a better life as farm cats with a friend who moved to the country than as house cats near a busy road).

cool

I had to google "chinchilla" cause I thought it was a type of mexican food - they are cute! I used to have a pet rat and I was surprised how smart a rodent can be as a pet so assume chinchilla's are pretty smart too.

Did you take pics of the 4 chinchillas?

Daniel, that must've been hard! How long had you had them?

I do have some pics on here of the chins, but not on this computer, here are some recent pics from the rescue website: http://www.finallyhomechinchillas.co...7-2010xx1x.JPG

Chinchillas are very intelligent. They have a 4-month gestation period. Unlike rats, they come out fully formed with hair, eyes open, ears open. They are like toddlers--inquisitive, demanding, endearing. I had had rats before, and they are some similarities. Both are very clean and social, easily trainable.
