Interesting items you've purchased from / sold on craigslist?

I'm going to start craigslist'ing. To sell - not buy. I have a garage full of home decor knick knack shit that I packed in there to maybe use later in life. But the truth is, when it's time to redo the home decor, I'm gonna buy new. I think it's just in a woman's nature lol.

So it just got me to thinking - what's maybe the best deal you've come across? Any items that cost you next to nothing? ---I'm worried some of my stuff may not sell - like $1-$5 items. Have you made some good cash by selling certain items, or in general even? Any other tips appreciated too. :)

Although I haven't bought/sold on Craigslist personally, my buddy has bought/sold several cars and car related items on there before.

When I've watched him look for stuff on there, he usually clicks the ads that have pics, and he'll get pissed-off if the pic is a poor quality one. (usually not bright enough, or at a bad angle)
Also, sometimes people forget to write their item(s)'s descriptions in a coherent manner, or they leave off a phone number.

Good luck with your sales, and be aware of scammers.

Recently I have been looking at BabyGrand Pianos and they aren't very expensive used. If you think about how many people have room for one in a house it makes sense, they are difficult to sell. Currently we are babysitting a BabyGrand in our house and have decided that the place where it is would not look right without one, so when it goes we will try to replace it.

Yeah - pics are mandatory imo. I'd never buy something without seeing it first online. I'll probably keep a little checklist to run over every time I'm posting:

Description - check
Picture - check
Phone number - check

And I'll always meet in a public place. Thankfully the items I'd like to sell are small enough to tote around on my own. I won't need a truck or anything.

Thanks!

And good luck with the baby grand shopping doc!

The most interesting thing I found on craigslist was a U-HAUL truck. At the the time I was looking for a truck similar, but I didn't know I could actually get one like it!

I've only sold, never bought. Meet in a public place. Do not give out your home address or phone number. Use a cell phone number only. Beware of scammers. You will probably get only a few legit inquiries.

The public place meeting seems to be mandatory, damn craigslist killer.

Things I don't want to ship with ebay I sell over craigslist, also anything I just want to give away. On give aways I do give my address but do the cold hearted transfer of "it'll be at the end of the driveway". Also scrap metal. Those guys will come and take all the stuff you can't just throw away like old bathtubs.

Beware of Vultures

I really needed a drink one day about 2 months ago and had no cash, so I decided to sell my used Nintendo Wii system on craigslist for an insanely low price of $100 (with 2 games including mario galaxy) in one hour I had 3 emails from buyers, I sent them all my cell phone number and address and told them the first one to show up gets it.

The guy who showed up first told me a lame story about how his son had only given him $90 and asked if I would take that, I said no because $100 is a great deal as it is, then he said he could give me the other $10 on a wal-mart gift card but the card had $40 on it so he would have to drive to wal-mart and spend $30 and then give me the card. basicaly he was trying to get me to give in and take the $90 but I had no problem with headin to wal-mart so he finaly gave in and pulled a $100 bill from his wallet and offered me another $100 for my 23inch lcd tv/monitor which I need for my pc of course.

So thats one problem with craigslist is having to deal with vultures.. thats what I call people like that.

Bum,

That's kind of a creepy story, haha.

A $300 enlarger with easel, cropping base, and safelight plus developing trays, bottles of chemicals, and about $80 worth of Ilford photo paper, all for $50.

I got a kick-ass bistro table set that retails for around $350 for $50.
I've sold some crazy stuff, though... one dude bought the brand new carpet from our condo that we pulled up (about 12.5' x 26' with a seam) and the pad for $400. And S's stock FJ Cruiser tires for about $300 (they were worth about that).
I don't give out a phone number until they email me.
And I don't deal. Period.
There was one lady that I cut $20 off the price of a dishwasher because it needed a piece and it was for a home daycare. Other than that, take it or leave it.

I just bought a motorcycle...made a great deal on it.

For a lot of little stuff, have you though about eBay? It would seem you'd have to post each and every item and answer tons of emails/calls for craigslist. On eBay, you'd only have to post a picture of each item and sell to top bidders. And, from what I've seen, everything sells.

i've bought and sold from Craigslist successfully. I've always made a habit of offering half of what people were asking, and a surprisingly high amount of people take the offer without even countering. Most recent thing i bought was a nice birdcage, ppl were asking 125 but i bought for 50. last thing i sold was a dog kennel, i was asking 60 and got 60. i think i paid 70 originally, then used it to house-train my dog. I'm a fan of Craigslist, though all of the above advice about being careful and selective in what info you provide is exactly right.
