Saturday Morning Routines
My husband and I have a routine on Saturday mornings--at least Saturdays when the farmer's market is going on. We only have about six weeks a year where there is no market, and when it's not happening (like right now), I miss it very much because it's so much a part of what we do on Saturdays.
We get up, have coffee, go to market, go run errands (like additional grocery shopping), and listen to Car Talk on the radio in the car while we run errands. Car Talk repeats on Sundays so I get to catch all the pieces I missed on Saturday while running around :) If it's outdoor market, we pop in to our favorite wine shop while we're downtown and do some tasting before heading over to the brewing supply shop and looking at recipes for the next brew. I like to get to outdoor market early, especially during tomato season, so I can have first dibs on whatever's in. If it's indoor market, we're a little more leisurely about getting there. It feels weird to just be lounging around on a Saturday, when I'm used to getting up and going somewhere. What about you? Are there things you absolutely have to do on a Saturday? Do you have a routine, even on the weekend? |
We don't have a set in stone routine, but our Saturdays typically involve me getting up before hubby and making coffee. I drink my coffee and catch up on my Facebook goings on while he wakes up. After he finally gets up, we almost always make a big family breakfast. I enjoy this because it's a good chance for hubby and I to discuss things while son plays. After breakfast I try to get the majority of the housework done so I don't have to worry about it the rest of the weekend. After that, we might see a movie, play a game, or do something else family oriented.
Sundays are less structured, with everyone doing their own thing. The only guarantee on Sundays is I do the grocery shopping; I'm a coupon clipper and wait for the Sunday paper before I do my shopping. |
While it isn't set in stone, our Saturdays generally take the following form:
I get up at 7 and let my wife sleep in for another hour or so. I make a coffee, read the paper and hang out with my daughter (who has usually been up since 6:30). When my wife gets up, we make the menu for the week, then the grocery list. Then either I go get the groceries or I drag one of the kids with me (I like shopping for the groceries). Then it's home for lunch. |
Our Saturdays are the "free days"... Sundays are the ones with routines, these days. Groceries, Laundry and homework.
|
No routine, really. We get up early, look out the window at the Continental Divide, check the latest weather report, and try to reconcile our plans with the weather.

I sometimes wish there was a routine... hubby works on day job Mon-Fri, so on Saturdays he often does his outdoor chores, that need to be done, so he tends to have his routines. Since I may have to go to work any day of the week, always evenings, my days are different.
Weekends would usually be the time, when we could do something together as a family, but very often there are also kids' sports tournaments on weekends. Older son often goes with the team - the journeys are long and they stay overnight and we don't usually have time to follow, and there are other kids' hobbies to attend to at the same time, plus my work. Many Finns traditionally spend the Saturday evening bathing in the sauna. We don't have that custom anymore. We still do wash ourselves regularly though, more than once a week. :D |
Saturday mornings? I am usually the first one awake around 7, - I make coffee for myself, and peruse TFP or catch up on the sports scores from the night before. By 8, I've completed my matinal ablutions and wakened the kids. I also brew a second cup of coffee, but bring it to my wife who likes to sleep in on Saturdays.
By 8:30 myself and my 3 sons are on our way downtown to the math class where the older two work as tutors and the youngest is in the math & english programme. Between 9 & 9:30 I park the car a block away, and buy myself my best coffee of the week at the Jet Fuel Coffee shop: a cup of Americano. At 9:30 the liquor store is open, so I pick up a 6 pack of whatever I feel like for the week then I pick up my youngest son from math and we drive home. Come to think of it, this is a fairly regimented routine. |
Coffee and breakfast while watching a show on the DVR then surfing the net for an hour then exercise for 40 minutes and by that time it is noon and I take it easy for the rest of the day.

See, now I love the routines posted involving coffee, the market, etc. So cozy'ish! Unfortunately, these types of mornings for me usually take place with friends while on vacation. There's no local market where I live now. However, coffee is mandatory every day of the week in my household of 1. On Saturdays, nothing really changes other than I stay in my pajamas much longer than I would on a weekday.
So sad. lol :p |

I wake up at 1 pm ish and stare at my phone until 2. Drag myself out of bed at 2:15 ish and use the restroom. After that i jump right back into bed only to feel bad about not getting up earlier!. Then a coffee and a cig would do! |

Leto! Jet Fuel Coffee = The BEST.
Sadly, you just can't get coffee that good here. |
i have to admit that i get up earlier on weekends than i do on weekdays.
i dont know how to destress except to go out and go for a run/bike/climb. sleeping in definately makes me stress even more because im just idling around thinking about stuff i should be doing. |
Starting this coming Saturday until November as the season has started up again .. My Saturday mornings are getting out of the house by 6:30am (an hour earlier than my normal work departure) and I'm a volunteer with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary for the morning and into the early afternoon.

I can't sleep in anymore, at least not past 8am or so. I go to bed fairly early, even on weekend nights, so I have no reason to sleep in, and like dlish, I feel like there are things I could be doing. If we're going to market, I have to be up and there first thing so I can get first pick, which means up at 8 and out the door at quarter to 9. For winter market, we usually get there sometime between 9 and 10. It's less popular so there's less of a need to rush.

im usually back in the house by about 10 or 11am on the weekends if i decide to stay local. a quick shower, breakfast and im ready go spend the rest of the day with the mrs and kid if theyre around, or go to the beach or pool and take it easy.

I wish i could get up early and feel productive, but i lost my job of 5 years about 2 months ago. And that, sadly, makes me sleep in late. I should find things to do. But what??

Hello,
Saturday is our working day. |
Saturdays for me are usually my time to hop in the EP3 and go cruising to the mall/cafe/etc.

Ahh, Sacred Saturday Mornings
My Lady's ex picks up her kids Friday after school and has them till late Sunday morning. Every second weekend I have one of my boys visit - the youngest will be 18 next month so he stays up late Friday night and sleeps late Saturday. Which means Saturday morning is our time. The alarm has been shut off before we get in bed, so we wake up in our own sweet time. Who ever is more awake rouses the other and we ride each other for a while. I get up and head downstairs to make French press coffee (I hand mill the beans the day before - they are often roasted to order but I am willing to buy any dark rich coffee). The dog spends some time in the yard and I check the web while the kettle is boiling and the coffee is steeping in the press. We have special glass Saturday morning coffee mugs. I like my mug pre-heated, my Lady prefers her coffee a bit cooler. I pour the pressed coffee through paper filters to clear out the mud you get when using a French press. We find 10% cream is rich enough without being too rich. I take sugar in mine. I carry the coffee and the Globe & Mail newspaper up to the bedroom (we only get the Saturday paper) where we read the paper and drink coffee in bed. Then we have sex again until we are hungry enough to get up and shower. We get dressed and walk the dog to one of the local patisseries, bake shops or breakfast bagel places that abound in our neighbourhood. Sometimes we then head back to bed, or we do a couple of errands. I do like our Sacred Saturday Mornings :) |

We're back to our usual Saturday morning routine now that outdoor market has begun again :) Lately, a friend of ours has been joining us at market. Also, a regular feature of our Saturdays recently has been homebrewing in the afternoons, which means the later part of the morning almost always includes getting ready to brew.
And kramus, I think morning sex is required to really get a Saturday off on the right foot  |
