Christmas/Holiday Bonuses?
I was thrilled to see the notification of an automatic deposit from my employer in between payday Fridays. The company has always provided a small bonus (net between $1-200) and it's not based on percentages but is a set amount that all employees receive. This year it was nearly double last year's. I'm totally pumped since I was expecting less, if anything.
Anyone else get a bonus? Was it expected or unexpected? Do you think it's a sign of slow recovery or just big businesses trying to pump something into it? |
We get a $50 giftcard for the grocery mailed to us in a Christmas card. I always thought it was a nice touch. this is a change from the ham that we were given back in the '90's as it was discovered that some folks will/can not eat ham.
We also get a 15% of salary bonus at the end of the year anyways. Most of mine goes directly to RRSP (resgister retirement savings plan) so it's protected from tax for now. the rest goes to tax and car repairs. |
We get bonuses based on company and individual profitability but they are distributed a couple months after the fiscal year ends. This used to be in June but we changed our fiscal year so that it now lines up with the calendar year and we'll get them in March.
|
We have a company party and get a gift bag which usually contains a pre-paid mastercard of around $75. It's nice to receive and considering the economy, it's more than I could expect.
|
Since I work for the State, my boss is not authorized to give us bonuses. We do have a holiday party, that we have to pay to attend, and the director invites the managers to her house for a dinner. She tries to show us her appreciate throughout the year as well.
|
I don't get a bonus as such. I do get a year end evaluation, and based on that evaluation and how well both the company and the division I'm in did over the past year, I get a payment in March of the following year that is some % of my pay. Years ago it was in the range of 8-10% of pay, last few years about half that.
|
Last year I got nothing.
This year I'm going to get twice that! |
The last few companies I've worked for always gave something at Christmas, usually based on a percentage of pay. I just started working for a new company in August and I'm not expecting anything this year; the company is an expansion of a small family owned company and we're still getting on our feet.
|
I apparently get a bonus, but it's completely contingent on parent donations. Apparently the parents will also give us gifts. I'm excited about those.
At the church, we usually get a small bonus, a gift from the pastor, or a coffee card or something. It depends on what's left of the budget. |
I got quite a good bonus (about a month's pay) at the end of the financial year, and there has been talk about a possible one this month, though the amount has not been determined yet. Our company ones are based on seniority and length of service.
|
1.5% raise and the organization will pay an additional $25/month on health insurance.
|
I don't get one. It would be nice, but I don't get one nor have I expected one in years and years. I did used to get gifts from the company, they gave the same gift to everyone, from watches to suitcases.
Otherwise, I haven't gotten one in a long time. I don't expect one, nor do I want one. |
We have a bonus negotiated into our contract. Previously we got a $3000 bonus, but in our last contract our union asked for an increase to the bonus without actually expecting to get it. The company offered a slight decrease in the flat bonus ($100 a each year for the life of the contract) with a profit based bonus to come in February which increases in potential each year.
So this year I get a $2800 bonus flat bonus (before taxes) this year, with another bonus in February with no minimum and up to a maximum of $1200. I'm expecting to get the full bonus much like we did last year, because we've had a really good year again this year. |
HA this is a joke! I can't even find a good job, let alone one with bonuses or benefits!
If I sound bitter, yes...I am. VERY. I've got a B.A. and great sales & marketing skills. Too bad I'm over 50 years old. And white. |
I've had no indication of a bonus, so I'm not really expecting one. On the other hand, given the way my company operates it won't surprise me if we get something at the office Christmas party next Friday.
I think I'm okay without getting a bonus. Given the number of perks I get with my job, I don't really feel I have a lot of room to complain. |
I got bonuses allright ... I got more hours at my part time job.
|
I've been working at the same place years ago. Then they gave a Christmas package to all permanent and semi-permanent (like me) workers. I've received a sortiment of cheeses with a bottle of wine, bathrope and a toilet bag with a linen towel to name a few, I can remember. All quality stuff.
I've been working there this time since June and I'm hoping they'll count me in this year as well. The past years have not been very good for the company, so it may be, they don't hand out presents anymore, I'm not sure. |
This year I got a new job and was caught off guard. I honestly wasn't expecting or waiting for a bonus to install a pool or anything... The envelope i received was very elegant as well as the card. After having it in my possession all day while treating it as if were loaded with cash, I was kinda bummed to open it and only find a note saying that I'll get $25 in a few weeks... but I'm still very grateful for it.
I did a bunch of googling, seems that 1% to 5% of yearly salary is recommended? At my prior job, my bonus amounted to about 0.5%... still a nice chunk of money presented as an excellent selection of gift cards. |
I'm not getting one but my people are.
|
I should be getting comission on sales, as of now there's been one in my name (they're big transactions so they don't come often), but I wouldn't get the money till my boss gets his cut, which is when the deal goes through the bank and notary.
But how much I don't know, and there's sort of a hush-hush don't ask don't tell rule about bonuses among people that have the same rank as me in the company. I heard something about Christmas envelopes but I wouldn't bet on it. What's pretty nice is the whole company (65-70 people) is going to a 5 star hotel in Normandy as a "thank you" this thursday, and having helped to bring up the champagne boxes(quite a few of em), it seems like it's gonna be a nice party. |
No Xmas bonus, but I do get longevity pay on my anniversary date. It's less than 2%, but it's something, especially since there aren't going to be any raises in the near future.
|
Bah Humbug for me, as well. I will get to pull an all-nighter on Christmas Eve to upgrade some core routers.
I'm well paid, my relationship with my employer is strictly mercenary. No need to pretend that we like each other. |
I was about to give our sales guy a Christmas bonus, but I discovered that he was stealing from us. Fucker! At least I discovered it BEFORE I cut the check.
|
What the fuck is a bonus? If it's a Christmas thing, is it related to the unpaid furlough day we get on the 24th?
|
We get a Christmas party with dinner and a couple of drinks which is appreciated but no, no cash money.
I always figured bonuses were just Hollywood concoctions like expense accounts and Kissing Booths. |
