I was watching Monday Night Football and Howard Cosell broke the news. I was stunned. I woke my wife. The days following were terrible, unbelievably terrible.

Just as he had resurfaced and seemed to have gathered up his life, he was gone. Gone much too soon. A voice, if not THE voice of my generation.

I wonder what he'd think of the past 30 years. The wall has come down, but several others have gone up in its place. His message of peace still remains unfulfilled.

I will never forget that day either.

There are some that leave great legacies for you to remember them by. But there are some that leave the legacy but also leave you wanting for more. John is one of those few.

I remember it so well. It actually wasn't until a special the next night on Lennon that it really came home to rest... I felt the impact just as they showed that video of John & Yoko walking out to the garden studio & he sat down to play Imagine. What a poignant moment for me.

And merely 2 weeks before that, my Industrial Psych prof had been so ecstatic over having received a promo Double Fantasy album signed "Love and all the best to Peter and friends... John Lennon & Yoko Ono". It is one of his most treasured possessions.

His dreams live on across boundaries. We're still listening, John.

My dad, an avid Pats fan who never missed a game, told me once he remembers hearing this on MNF. He's a backwoods, anti-everything John Lennon stood for, hard nosed conservative who still took notice when it happened, I guess if nothing else John Lennon made his mark on the world and at least got his message across weather you liked it or not. He certainly wont be forgotten.

I had just turned 1 when Lennon was shot so I don't remember it but for those that do here's the infamous MNF announcement.

Give peace a chance.

I was nine when he was killed and wasn't that into the Beatles at the time, and certainly not only just one of them.
By the next May, my own father had died in an accident at work and I spent the next year or so grieving.
Music was a big part of helping me through that time, and Lennon's songs helped a great deal, especially.

Its been very sad watching all the Lennon stuff on TV. We miss you John.
