where to go

im leaving america to live a simple life somewhere, anyone have any ideas where to go, somewhere warm, where i can get a job that pays enough to support me living in a hut

stinkynutz 07-10-2003 12:54 PM

i heard thiland is tight.

it's cheap at least.

lurkette 07-10-2003 01:08 PM

Bhutan. They measure their economic output by "happiness index" - have economic measures increased happiness, rather than productivity, etc.

If I were packing it in, that's where I'd go. Or Tasmania.

Tower 07-10-2003 01:37 PM

Eh.. Move to Whales, or Sweden, or maybe Australia.

noahfor 07-10-2003 01:55 PM

too cold, too populated, i need somewhere i can get a job without a college education, and just live in a modest home on the beach, where i never have to close the windows

Mael 07-10-2003 03:19 PM

go to benin. it's on the ivory coast of africa (fyi: it was the heart of the slave trade back in the day) and chances are your non-college educated self could do rather well for yourself by their standards.

Yeah, move down here. A little smaller than the US with only 19 million people and 30,000 miles of coastline. All the sun, beer, and jobs you can poke a stick at... and two girls for every guy *cue Beach Boys*

As for Whales, I'm not sure you can live in a mammal...

paddyjoe 07-10-2003 06:09 PM

Costa Rica. Seriously, check it out.

I second that. Actually, from what I've heard they are supposed to have a pretty strong little capitalist economy, but maybe I'm thinking of somewhere else.

i8one2 07-10-2003 07:49 PM

The island of Saba, 5 mile square island in the Caribbean

rogue49 07-10-2003 08:07 PM

Curacao
beautiful Dutch island in the Carribean.

noahfor 07-10-2003 08:16 PM

yea, im looking for a job fishing or picking fruit, and i just want to live in a hut or shack or something

thebigone14 07-10-2003 08:30 PM

don't plug your site, man.

noahfor 07-10-2003 08:32 PM

those places are all too rich, i dont know the way the world works though, im 19, i need to get out of here, just a little hut on the beach would suffice, preferably no t.v, you know like zawataneo from the shawshank redemption

crow_daw 07-10-2003 09:14 PM

Well, I don't know about the job factor, but I do know that the Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras are dirt cheap on everything. At least, thats what Maxim said. But one of my teachers also warned me that the prices might skyrocket thanks to the Islands newfound publicity from Maxim. But at the time the article was written, you could get beers there for 50 cents, and a plate of fresh seafood for 3 dollars. And you could rent a fucking beach house for like 27 dollars a night. I shit you not.

What he said!

It's inexpensive and beautiful. My buddy bought a condo on the waterfront, fully furnished for around 40K and he just LOVES it down there.

Overlord 07-10-2003 10:34 PM

We call the place you are describing UTOPIA; I don't want to sound arrogant or ignorant but seriously from your description.

Why would you leave the US? I'm not from there, but I've visited many times, areas such as Florida and California are gorgeous; except for the crime. I hate to break it to you but the place your describing is the States, you need to find a small, secluded town in Cali (good luck ;) ) buy a nice modest house and start your life there.

Now unless leaving the country is your only option ;) ;) I would suggest that you strongly consider staying

noahfor 07-10-2003 10:43 PM

Bay Islands it is. I want to leave because of what this place does to my feelings. The people here are aliens, and unless I leave, I'll never get away.

I heard they're cost of living is real low.

the country's nearly destitute so the hookers will do just about anything.....

*rimshot

I hear good things of the Carribean. No language hassles and all the tourists you can scam.

MikeyChalupa 07-11-2003 02:38 AM

So are we giving the FBI a list of places to look for this guy? :)

I'd recommend the Carribean. Friendly locals, warm weather, easy living. Not too expensive either, except around the touristy resort areas.

laxative 07-11-2003 12:35 PM

got a hippie friend who goes to Belize every summer. Guess there's a bunch of communesque farms there. It's cheap anyway.

viejo gringo 07-11-2003 08:30 PM

Beliz---it is always warm, and except for an ocasinal hurricane
it would be great place to live--

bundy 07-11-2003 10:58 PM

Tahiti - paradise, absolute paradise.

Australia - what Meri said. You can have the best of any world in Oz... beaches, cities, outback...

A second vote for Bhutan. I just posted some pictures of my trip there in April over in the photography forum.

I think you've got a great dream. Consider chasing it in an industrialized nation outside the US.

Otherewise, there might be problems:
mean people with guns
organized people with guns
poor medical care
never leaving

onetime2 08-07-2003 11:08 AM
