Anger counseling

Link to story about Lockheed Martin shooting in Meridian, MS.

You know there used to be a time if a worker said "One of these days, they're going to (expletive) me off and I'm going to come here and shoot some people." , he would be fired. Especially if he had a history of verbal attacks and problems dealing with fellow employees.

Now, "Anger Management Conselors" are brought in to "discuss the person's feelings".

To quote the story,
"Fellow employees also described him as a "hothead" who had used racial epithets and made threats against blacks. Fellow employees also described him as a "hothead" who had used racial epithets and made threats against blacks.
As recently as three weeks ago, some employees complained that Williams arrived at work wearing a white covering over his head that resembled a hood, Sheriff Billy Sollie said. Some employees found the covering offensive because it resembled a Ku Klux Klan outfit."

I'm not against giving someone the benefit of the doubt and a second chance when you have a bad day. I've had several days where I've called the boss impolite names. I know I would hate to be fired for a off-hand comment, but this guy was making threats, and was a time-bomb waiting to go off.

Enough with the counseling, fire people when it comes to this.

...but, then again, that probably would have set him off too.

Anyways, discuss...

Make terroristic comments like that, and you are gone. No need to ruin company morale with everyone having to look over their should just in case some jackass comes in with a shotgun.

yeah well the supporters of anger management counselors are probably supporters of "time-outs" as well.

Update:

Wow, this is timely. I just got out of a staff meeting where one of the topics was...(drumroll) Threats in the workplace!

The ruling was, ALL THREATS WILL BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY!!!!

Making a violent threat in the workplace will result in a suspension. Subsequent threats will result in termination. Do not pass GO, do not collect your $200 and Do not attend counseling.

I've worked in places where a particular person was kept around because they were afraid of what would happen if the person were fired. Could be what happened here.

Well, I'd fucking hope so! :p

yeah well the people who shoot up their work place are probably supporters of "spanking their children" as well.

So would I, but there are a ton of stories out there, including this one, where threats were made and little was done about it.

A person gets sent to counseling, or worse just gets transferred to another department, but never gets disciplined. And everyone is surprised when the person comes back with a gun and shoots half the place up.

The kids at Columbine had made several threats and had a website that listed everything they wanted to do, and no one saw it coming.

Tell the FBI, see if they throw him in a cell for a few years. If that fails, pre-emptive strike.

If I were in charge, anyone who made a violent threat would be home for a week and sent to counseling and anger management, second time he/she is out. Racist comments? Out. I take no shit. This is why I'll never be a manager.

Fucking political correctness.
