Post something in another language

What we need here is a bit of diversity. so im proposing everyone post something in another language, and maybe we could learn something new.

many of us here have travelled abroad or have a mixed heritage or ethnicity. so im interested in seeing the different languages people know here. it doesnt have to be your mother tongue, it could be something you heard from a friend. just let us know what it means, and in what language as well as how to pronounce it or any other relevant information.

Je pense donc je suis.

Note: French is supposed to be my second language. I live in Ontario, which is next to Québec, a predominantly French-speaking province. Canada's two official languages are English and French. One fifth of the country prefers French as their native tongue. My last name is French, as my heritage is partly Québecois. I'm anglophone, however.

Our school system teaches French throughout elementary school. It is mandatory to acquire 1 credit in French as a second language to graduate high school. I myself attended a French immersion program for grades 7 and 8, and even went to Québec City and Montréal on field trips to practice the language. I continued to study French through high school until grade 12. I dropped out of OAC (grade 13, Ontario Academic Credit—now discontnued) French, being a slacker at the time, but the successful completion of that credit would have earned myself a certificate from the government, stating my official bilingualism.

One of my favourite films is Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (known simply as Amélie in English). Though I admit I've seen very few French films.

My French is rusty. I've been meaning to brush up, but keep putting it off. I should use the books I acquired for that purpose....and should watch more French films.

I don't speak Klingon, but one of my poetry professors created the alien language for Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict.

I know two Serbian words.
My dad's Colonel was Serbian.
Many years ago, they stood outside smoking their cigars one evening.
Surveying the previous night's frost damage, Colonel Dan turned to my father
and announced: "Your vrt is smrt."

vrt = garden------ smrt = deceased

If you confuse a book editor using plain English, something has gone seriously wrong. However, you should see some of the messes I've untangled. It's amazing how it seems like I read people's minds by essentially guessing at their meaning.

As an example, reducing a sentence by 50% or more while somehow giving it more meaning is enough to give most editors a linguistic orgasm.

that reminds of of that part in the movie Zoolander where jennifer anniston's character admits she was once bulemic and ben still and owen wilson look at her with utter fascination and gasp:

"you can read minds?!?!"

Quiero andar en bicicleta.
Spanish: I want to ride a bike.

Women chi meguofan.
Mandarin: We eat American food.

Je veux danser.
French: I want to dance.

3 years of high school Spanish coupled with growing up in SoCal, you'd think I would understand more Spanish. 1 summer course in beginning Mandarin, I never admit to it, but it means I can occasionally understand a word or two that I overhear from the lab next-door. Too many years of French to keep track, but I'm terrible with it all the same.

Warrior Creed

"If today is to be THE DAY, so be it. If you seek to do battle with me this day you will receive the best that I am capable of giving. It may not be enough, but it will be everything that I have to give and it will be impressive. I have constantly prepared myself for this day. I have trained, drilled, and rehearsed my actions so that I might have the best chance of defeating you. I have kept myself in peak physical condition, schooled myself in the martial skills and have become proficient in the application of defensive tactics. You may defeat me, but you will pay a severe price and will be lucky to escape with your life. You may kill me, but I am willing to die if necessary. I do not fear Death, for I have been close enough to it on enough occasions that it no longer concerns me. But I do fear the loss of my Honor and would rather die fighting than to have it said that I was without Courage. So I WILL FIGHT YOU, no matter how insurmountable it may seem, and to the death if it need be, in order that it may never be said of me that I was not a Warrior."

Wie sind wir? "Who are we?" in German.

DK, my computer showed up with little squares for your language in your post, except for an "AM" in the beginning. What language was it? I'll guess an Asian language, since the squares show up for pretty much every Asian language.

On my mom's old laptop here, I see many question marks & not the squares.
I recall DK mentioning his part Cherokee heritage. Perhaps that was his intent.
