Called for the 3rd Interview
 

Well, it feels like I'm definitely in the running for a great job that I want & need. Now that I met the Sales Manager, he said they'll call me to arrange a meeting with the V.P.

Should I feel confident or just that they are far "too careful" about the candidates they hire? The company has been in biz since 1971 and is doing well.

The person I would report to said they do have a few other people they're looking at but that her manager (from today) seemed to like me a lot. :thumbsup:

When do I send thank for the meeting notes?

3rd interview? Good for you. Very positive sign, also the feedback you received
from the person you would report to is excellent.
Anyway, who wouldn't like you?
I say send the notes two days after meeting with them. Pretty arbitrary,
but I think it balances giving them a bit of time with reminding them of you.

I've read a lot of advice suggesting a quick thank-you via e-mail an hour or two after the meeting, and then following up with a more formal typed and mailed thank-you sent within a couple of business days.

You can be confident that they want you, but they are being too careful. At this stage they don't doubt that you are qualified, but they want to know more about you personally. Multiple interviews are a company's way of avoiding making an embarrassing mistake. It spreads the risk.

I wonder if they are being careful because this firm is employee -owned and has a desirable ESOP program plus full benefits. If so, that might be the case and I think I just figured it out.

No wonder. People are way more likely to care when they have ownership.

Remember that compatible team personalities is just as important as having the skills on paper, which could be another reason for multiple interviews with multiple people, based on scheduling.

Three interviews? What can you learn in three interviews that you can't learn in two? The first to assess an applicant's qualifications; a second to assess an applicant's suitability to the specific job; the third--I don't know, to see if they own more than two wardrobe changes?

Don't get me wrong, congratulations Hunnychile, but three interviews sounds like a terribly inefficient human resources department.

On the company side of my business, 3 or 4 interviews is pretty standard. That's because there's usually multiple people involved in the hiring process. If I were hiring right now (I'm not), there would be probably 4 interviews, maybe a 5th. There would be an intial interview with me for all the folks that had good resumes. Then there would be another round a week or so later for the 2 or 3 that past my scare-em-off speach with me again then another one with my team-mates. Then there would be a final one with HR and maybe one with my boss (under some pretty specific circumstances).

Really? 3-5 interviews?

All that'll do is cause me not to work with the company. If I was already employed that'd just mean eating through my paid time offs, and royally piss off my current manager (better get that damn job after that many interviews). If I was unemployed I'd just be pissed as that means a month and a half I'm still unemployed because this damn company is too scared to make a move.

Unless you're picking a Regional Manager who's in charge of multiple states or higher... 2 interviews are plenty.

Seaver, for me, this process usually takes about a week, and almost all of our candidates are already working nearby. I don't want anyone to take PTO because of an interview with me (because it's money out of their pocket), so I usually start interviews at 6:30 - 7 in the morning or at 5:30 PM or so.

It's not that I'm scared to make a move, it's that I want to find the right person. You have to be willing to put up with a lot in this job, especially at first. If you can't make it through the interview process, you don't belong here anyway.

I have to go against this criteria also. I would rather you take as much time as possible interviewing me, make it last the whole day even. Just don't waste my fucking time!

You guys are assuming that all the interviews are with the same person. Typically, they're not, and that's why you get more than two.

i went through 5 interviews to get the current role im in.

i was interviewed by 4 people at different times. the final interview with the GM he made me an offer, so they had their minds made up by the 4th i think.

Good thing that I'm such a patient person....I'm still waiting for the final call to arrange that meeting with the V.P.

The dept. manager sent me an email last Friday saying their company always moves slowly & to not feel discouraged.

(The was all nice & good to read but - -I AM starting to get ants in my panties! C'mon people: let's resolve this job situation!)

I had an interview with a company once. Everything was puppies and rainbows, until the next guy was freakin' Lex Luthor. was sure that I tanked the interveiw, but as it turns out, Lex liked me, 4 hours with one guy...either going to end with smiles or tears...all smiles. though, that being said, i still didn't get the job.

its important to be s ure you thank the person you interviewed with for their time...once at the end of the interview, and then again 24-48 hours afterwards. A simple email thanking them for the time/opportunity will suffice. Then, be sure to include a sentence or two regarding why you are the best candidate for the job, or how you think you will benefit the company. The recruiter or manager will be impressed, and your next interviewer will likely have already heard a good word or two about you!
