Fugly, that's the problem with the whole idea of letting this stuff be the "democratic" manner. It just means that we're not going to get other information that may be more relevant or more meaningful in other ways.
I'm already upset that the news doesn't tell me more about the world at large, but tells me what was written on Lindsey Lohan's fingernail with zoomed in photos.

I don't really use it for news, though. I see the news and occasionally leaf through it but don't engage in it and certainly don't RSS (who does that? ADD geeks?). A good chunk of Reddit is not unlike the stereotypical TFP threads about relationships, sex, money, etc. The discussion portion is far more useful. When I want news I don't want a site that features asinine commentary and voting. I just found the particular news niche that fit my taste and decided to stick with it instead of playing Knower of the World and being confused all the time. But I'm a jack of no trades, a master of squat.

Instead, I've just forced myself to update myself the ol-fashioned way, by hopping from site to site (I currently have more than 48,000 separate url links I WILL eventually get to posting) and somehow still reading, on average, 4-800 link, headlines, articles or blurbs on any given weekday. I suck so much.

That's not a fair comparison. Use numbers from a neutral third party, like alexa, and it's true that Digg's traffic is significantly larger.
