Need help with a new hairstyle.

Hello. I'll try to keep this short. It's been just about a year since my ex-fiancee and I split. I was majorly depressed. We have a baby and we live so far apart now. I'm not going to get into that though because it hurts just to talk about it.

Alright, so I think I'm ready to cut my hair, get new glasses, get a few new clothes, and try to leave how I was, in the past. It's been about year and my hair is kinda long. I'd say medium-long. I dunno.

The front of my hair reaches the tip of my nose, the sides go about half an inch past the lower part of my ears, and if my head is facing forward, the hair reaches the base of my neck. Farther if I lean my head back. It reaches my shoulders if I do that.

I don't know anything about hair or hairstyles. In the past, I've always just had it shortened. Just a normal, plain, boring cut.

Then when I got a job at this one place, I gave this Asian chick next door, who worked at a Regis hair place, free food and she always did my hair. She'd do it kinda different each time. She liked making it spiky. I remember using this one gel and I'd use it when my hair was wet. I don't quite remember how to describe the two main ways she had my hair styled.

Now, with this longer hair, I figured maybe I could possibly make use of the extra length. The Asian chick deserted me and moved to Florida so I can't ask her anymore.

I don't really know much about how to style hair so she always made sure whatever she chose didn't require too much maintenance. But if you could describe to me precisely any xtra steps I might have to do for this next hairstyle, then I'll be glad to try my best to learn and repeat what needs to be done.

I have black hair. It's naturally very shiny and smooth so I hesitated when the Asian chick gave me gel the first time because all the other gels I attempted to use before that always made my hair as stiff as hay and I hated that. I'll use gel again if needed and I'll try anything that you ppl would recommend too.

I don't know what else to say. Ummmm...I'm a guy. I think I'm 25-27. I stopped counting at 18 and only explicitly remembered my 21st birthday and then I lost track again.

Any suggestions/pics would be awesome. I guess suggestions from you girls out there would be best since you're the ones I'll be wanting to attract.

To be honest I've just gone to a medium expensive stylist place... and get an appointment with a gay guy who seems popular.

Tell him your situation, how professional vs. stylish/alternative/etc you want and just leave it up to him.

Did this back in high school, and have had the same cut with very little change since. Mine is a 2 on the sides, hair up top cut short/layered messy spiky up/forward. Takes 10sec to style and is professional enough for any suit.

suggestions?

chicks like smart guys. take the year 2010 and reduce it by the year you were born, and voila, you have your age!

As for a ahircut, anything that will get your confidence up will do you a world of good. its not the haircut, it's how you carry yourself.

Before we can really make any specific recommendations, it'd be good to know some more about what you're looking for. Do you want something emo/scene? Professional? Edgy? Retro? Artsy?

It might also help if you could post a picture or describe your face shape.

I don't know crap about hairstyles so I don't know what hairstyle falls into what category. Going by the names only, Artsy sounds like it'd take a long time to style each time and Professional sounds too plain and boring. Retro sounds like an old hairstyle.

I don't know anything else about the others. Maybe someone could link me to some examples of what goes with what.

And I don't have any pictures of myself since I'm the one always taking pictures. I don't really know words to describe a face shape either. What would be some keywords to describe ones face shape?

Just go for a 1/2" crop. Suits work or social, low maintainence, can be dressed up or down. Suits me.

Ring, stop posting pictures of how my head shape changes due to my mood.

Perhaps after we get you into rehab for your drug use and/or head injury, we can figure out what to do with your hair.

I had hair almost as long as yours, and a while agoo shaved it to the scalp with a mach 3 razor. It was a great change for me, and if I were single I'd have kept it up, but alas, the wife likes SOME hair.

Boy, you REALLY want him to move on, eh? :expressionless:

Parting on the side is coming back:

No... just a girl who can do a good job on a men's hair are few and far between in my experience. 90% of the female hair stylists are very disappointing.
