What temp do you try to maintain in your home?

68-71 degrees F.

I like a cool house. I use blankets year round, especially while lounging in front of the tv. Including in the summer.

In the heat of the summer, my electric bill can get up to $200 / month and I'm in a 3 bedroom ranch. In the dead of winter, the bill's around $160 / month.

Punk.of.Ages 04-14-2010 06:53 PM

I prefer 65-70 in the winter, and 75-80 in the summer.

Mostly because I'm cheap...

blahblah454 04-14-2010 07:14 PM

In the winter I like it around 17.5-18.5C (64-66) most of the time, unless I am feeling under the weather then I will turn it up.

In the summer I have 0 choice in the temperature, and it gets insanely hot in this place. On the main floor it registers in at 28 (82 F) most of the time, and upstairs in my computer room and bed room its about 32 (90 F). No air conditioning for me.

SaltPork 04-14-2010 07:15 PM

In winter we range from 65 at night to 73 during the colder days. In the summer we set the AC anywhere from 65-70. It seems like a huge range, but the house is big and only one system for the whole thing, so some rooms freeze and others cook-at different times of the year.

I hear you but I'm a miserable, cranky bitch when I'm hot. {good to see you btw}

I wouldn't survive. Ugh!

Aladdin Sane 04-14-2010 07:21 PM

72-74F year round. I don't like the heat and I live near Austin, so I spend lots to stay cool.

Sue 04-14-2010 07:21 PM

I don't have a specific temperature (range). I once took my temp a week straight while at work, 3 times (am, noon, and pm). My own temp runs me at 99 - 99.3. I also have a 3rd floor, southwest facing apartment working against/for me (heat rises etc). I adjust it as necessary for me. On cool days like we've been having, I leave my windows open and keep the blinds down a little. The sun really heats my place up in the afternoon.

So... yep, that's what I do, and no, I haven't had outrageous bills.

levite 04-14-2010 09:01 PM

Whatever the temperature is outside, basically. We live pretty much right on Venice Beach, CA, so it never really gets cold enough to need actual heating (sometimes heavier blankets at night, that's about it), and in the summer we just use fans-- the worst of the heat is usually ameliorated by oceanside cooling and breezes.

Tough life, right? :D

Idyllic 04-15-2010 04:42 AM

67 in winter because I'm cheap!!!!!!! and dressed like an Inuit all season.... I hate being cold, HATE HATE HATE being cold, cryophobic bitch that I am, but..... I hate paying a stupid heating bill of 5 to 6 hundred for our tiny domicile even more than being cold, although I do turn on the stove in the mornings just to warm up, my Hub thinks I'm crazy, maybe true.

In the summer, 87, 88 sometimes 90------ YEAH, minimal clothes, hot and sweltering with the ceiling fans for a breeze and all the windows open. I Love Being HOT, Humid and I would say sticky but, oh, never mind.... I Love HOT, HUMID and STICKY....... God I miss FL.

If Heaven is less than 87 degrees, I may as well live in Hell. I'm actually looking forward to menopause just FOR the hot flashes. :)

Leto 04-15-2010 05:25 AM

with the AC going in the summer, we set the thermostat to 24. That seems to cut the humidity and keep it cool enough to be comfortable. In the winter it is set to 20 or 21 which is comfortable room temperature.

Xerxys 04-15-2010 06:12 AM

It has to be 75. When I lived alone my time spent in the house was spent naked.

Bill O'Rights 04-15-2010 07:11 AM

I prefer it cool. I keep it at around 65 in the winter, and between 70-75 in the summer. Nebraska, in the summer time, is a hot and humid son-of-a-bitch.

Tully Mars 04-15-2010 07:35 AM

75 year round for me.

Jove 04-15-2010 11:07 AM

75 in the winter
68-70 in the spring/summer

Meditrina 04-15-2010 11:40 AM

In the winter, it averages around 64-65.
In the summer, probably around 74-75.

My kids don't agree with me, but they don't pay the bills.

StanT 04-15-2010 11:47 AM

Thermostat is set at 55. If the wife or daughters want it warmer the wood pile is in back and the wood burning stove can do "sauna" if you like.

In the 11 years that I've lived here, it has only reached 90 three times. We don't own an air conditioner.

Wes Mantooth 04-15-2010 12:04 PM

Usually right around 70 is perfect for me. In the summer when it gets ridiculously hot I might turn the air up and get the temps down to around 65-66 but I guess normally the stat is right around 70.

Fotzlid 04-15-2010 12:07 PM

In the winter when I'm home alone 60-65. Its usually around 70 when she gets home.
I'm not cheap, I just like it colder.

In the summer its usually near 75-80. I only turn the AC on till the living room or bedroom is bearable. Hate the heat but the electric bills are outrageous in the summer.

uncle phil 04-15-2010 12:09 PM

winter - heat set at 70f

summer - a/c set at 78f

Jinn 04-15-2010 12:31 PM

summer / winter 68-72

Pearl Trade 04-15-2010 04:14 PM

I keep it around 73 degrees year round. AC in the summer, heater or nothing in the winter.

Lindy 04-15-2010 04:55 PM

I like it cool, around 65 (especially for sleeping) so winter is great but summer can be expensive, so even with central cooling I have a little window unit in my bedroom so I don't have to pay to keep the whole 2400 square sleeping comfy.

Sigh. If there's anything worse than California smog, it's California smug.:shakehead:

Same here. Summer or winter we try and keep it locked as close to 73 as possible. We've got a steady $170 electric bill almost year round, mostly because this apartment complex was built in the 80's and leaks like a damn sieve.

Stare At The Sun 04-15-2010 06:14 PM

75-76 in the winter
72-73 in the summer.

I always try and rent in apartments that pay for the heat or AC, and use that to my advantage. Or I rent an apartment that makes use of the floor to offset whichever it doesn't pay for.

IE; they pay for AC but not heat, I'll get an apartment on a higher floor. Since heat rises, pay less for heat in the winter, and crank AC in summer. Vice versa if they pay for heat but not AC. Get a ground level/below ground level apartment, and keep windows open/try and get an apartment in the shade.

Worked quite well for me in my renting experience.

72 year round for me

Willravel 04-17-2010 05:03 PM

Heater turns on at 55, air conditioning turns on at 85. San Jose has mild weather.

robot_parade 04-17-2010 06:33 PM

My wife and I fight about this all the time. We live in San Antonio, and she wants to leave it on 80 to save the budget, while I want it at 76 because I don't like being hot.

Salem 04-18-2010 07:26 PM

I like it around 20 in the summer, 24 in the winter. I hate being cold, hate it. Why am I still in northern canada? pfff beats the shit outta .

blktour 04-18-2010 08:57 PM

I keep it at 70F year round. In Alaska we do not get "hot flashes". The hottest it usually gets is high 70's and that is HOT to what we are accustomed to.

Xazy 04-18-2010 09:38 PM

I wish I had the ability to control the temp I would keep it at 70, but sadly I cannot.

ecenur 10-26-2010 12:57 PM

70 in the winter and usually 70 as well in the summer, sometimes in the summer time nothing. I don't have the ac really high during the spring/summer because, me and my family we really enjoy the hot weather, it doesn't bug us, we can just sit there and wey'll be fine, plus we also have ceiling fans in every room to give a little breeze. During the summer we just sit at the back yard, go swimming until the weather starts to cool up, then we head inside for bed.

Strange Famous 10-26-2010 01:00 PM

I dont have any central heating or aircon
When its cold I put more clothes on, when its warm less.

snowy 10-26-2010 01:35 PM

70 in the morning to wake me up, 68 in the evenings, 72 on bread baking days, and whatever temperature the house wants to be in the summer, usually somewhere between 70-80.

ASU2003 10-26-2010 03:09 PM

I wonder why I didn't answer this before...

Heat is set for 50 in the winter, I don't use A/C in the summer (usually low 80's at the time of day when I'm home).
