I like long hair on both men and women. I feel weird when I cut my hair short and couldn't wait for it to grow back. Wont be doing that again.

I prefer shoulder-length brunettes, but really, as long as I find the woman attractive, hair doesn't much matter to me.

I don't think it matters that much. I have had my hair short for many years, and long for many years too. Short hair suits me well but I think longer hair looks better. Anything mid-length (above the shoulders) looks weird on me for some reason. I think it's my curls, they go nuts when it's mid-length. Long and the weight of the hair keeps them tamed, short and they haven't got much of a chance to be too wild anyway. I have no idea how I'm going to cope when I am a little older and longer hair looks silly. I don't feel like going very short again.

Whatever suits the girl, is fine by me.

But since I prefer longer hair on myself, I voted for that.

I've never understood why older women so often have short hair. What about longer hair looks silly on an older woman, other than most people don't have it right now?

I have every intention of avoiding the "older woman" cut. I'll be 80 with hair past my shoulders!

I like women with hair that ends up below their shoulders, with a little bit of curl (or i suppose the term would be character, dead straight hair is boring).

I'm the first one who said it, and I didn't mean to imply that all older women look silly with long hair as a rule. It's just that I have observed older women with long hair styled in ways that makes them look silly - as if they are trying to look like they are still 25.

But it's like all things. Some folks carry certain looks better than others. I shouldn't have said that and I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

If a woman tries to look younger by whatever means she can think of, it often ends up looking silly...same goes for men. There's something to be said for aging gracefully. I think long hair can look beautiful on an older woman. I don't really care what others think, I'm going gray and have no plans to cut my hair.

I don't think anyone was offended MM, I was just genuinely curious why it is so common. It's so common, in fact, that I've barely seen longer hair on older women and so I really don't know what's apparently so bad about it. I agree that trying to look 25 when you're 65 is obviously a bad idea, but does long hair on an older woman necessarily mean she's trying to look younger? Is that all it is?

No, like I said, not as a rule. But sometimes it appears that way...especially when accompanied by the wearing of clothing that was meant for far younger women.

Ultimately, though, it doesn't really matter. To each his own. For as many lengths and styles there are of hair for women, there are just as many reasons for choosing one out of them all for yourself.

I will reiterate, though, I would not be comfortable wearing hair far below my shoulders at my age. Not only that, but I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of long hair at my age, either. Which could account for some of the frequency of shorter hair on older women. I know it's true for my mother who wears her hair very short - she just doesn't want to be bothered with it.

I don't care, how long other women have their hair. For some of them short definitely suits better.

I would prefer mine reaching the shoulders, long enough to get them tied up into a ponytail. Unfortunately I let my hairdresser cut them shorter last time.

i prefer longer hair on me. i feel more feminine and pretty with it long. i know that short hair is not for me, since i buzzed it all of in jan 08. it is finally past my shoulders now and i do not plan to cut my hair for a while, just trimming at my bra band or midback.

on my women i actually prefer shorter hair.

Update:

Turns out dating a girl with long hair (boob length) sucks after being spoiled with the shortness. I'm going back to the comfort and ease of the shortness after this one expires. I'm tired of choking on them and finding them everywhere... clothing, vehicle, firearms, bedding, kitchen, on my cat, etc.

I'm a woman who is attracted to men, so I answered the poll with what length of hair I prefer on myself.

I enjoy playing with long hair - doing braids and what-not. But it's often more work than it's worth. I also don't like when my husband accidentally sleeps on my hair and pulls it when he shifts - ouch!

I also really love having short, boy-cut hair. It stays out of the way and is hassle-free. I can't play with it as much, though. When I've had it short in the past, I wished every week or so that it was longer so I could do something different.

When I was in my prime, I looked like this:

I started going gray at 28, which is, coincidentally, about the time I started having my hair colored. It's also when I gave up the long curls for something a bit more manageable:

When I left civilization and moved to the woods five years ago, I gave it all up (makeup, hair color, nails, watch) and haven't regretted it yet.

Happily, although I'm now 80% gray, it's the nice silvery gray - not the dull yellow that so many people end up with. And it's short. Easy peasy.
