Oddly enough, I dropped soil science (agronomy 301) and changed majors from bioenvironmental science to entomology. I hated soil science and I hated the instructor and TA even more. I couldn't tell the difference between a sandy loam and a loamy sand. That seriously was a requirement, to pick up a given sample and feel it and list what it was. I would have failed it so I bailed to something I had more interest in anyways.

And yeah, that red dirt is a bitch to get out of clothes. LOL
This reminds me of an episode of King of the Hill.

Bobby started going to some sort of farmer'ish school thing where he had to identify portions of meat and tell whether they're flawed or not, etc. It was like, a huge state-wide competition and everything. It was funneh.

I never was really into that show, but sometimes someone is watching it at work and I'll glance at it while I play pool.

Hello neighbor

Columns isn't too terribly far from me. I'm also in Cobb (Acworth / Kennesaw area.) And I learned about the missing guy yesterday from the news. Very sad.

Glad you're safe too. This'll deffo go down in history.
Hey! It's nice to find someone kinda close by on here Those were some crazy pics you posted. It has always been by greatest fear to die by drowning, especially in nasty murky water like the Chattahoochee. I can't imagine what would possess someone to actually get in that water. Well, ok, to save someone's life, I can understand. I haven't heard anything more about the missing guy. Makes me so sad. And that man who was holding his 2yr old while hanging onto a tree branch and lost grip on him and he died. That about broke my heart. I'm not exactly sure how you live with that.
Pretty much most of our water has dried up now, although it did rain a bit today. Have you heard if there are some still flooded out? I'm worried enough money isn't going to come to help those who didn't have flood insurance b/c they weren't technically in a flood plain.

Honestly, I've had to turn away from the tv some this week. The aftermath has hit me hard. How sad for these people - not only those who lost everything but those who lost loved ones as well. I've been a bit funked out because of all this.

My Mom is trying to make me feel better by saying everyone will get the help they need - there will even be those who will come out better than they were before the flooding. I choose to believe her. Because if I don't, I won't be functional lol.

A friend is telling me if I feel so bad for these families, then I should get up off my ass and volunteer somewhere. I'm unemployed at the moment, so not having time isn't an issue. *sigh*

lol

The strange part of this is, almost everyone I talk to doesn't even know Atlanta flooded at all.

Quite true. Have a good friend on the west coast and she didn't call until Thursday and only then b/c her mother had called to let her know what was going on.

Hey people! Atlanta flooded!

Woods, I have been thinking about doing some volunteer work myself. Is there a place you had in mind? I know the red cross is always looking for volunteers.

And it's raining cats and dogs again here today. God has a strange sense of humor, I think.

I have no idea lol. And no, I didn't bother looking online today for more information. Hell I could probably just drive to a neighborhood that was hit bad and ask if anyone needs anything. A load of laundry done, some McDonald's, diapers or something. I dunno.

Well here's some good news for you - the family who lost their 2yr old had an anonymous donor pay for the funeral expenses and Georgians have donated over 13K plus 2 cars for them to start getting their life back together. That's something to smile about.

Flooding sucks (not so fond memories of Tropical Storm Allison & Hurricane Ike). I hope that y'all get some dry weather & the help that you need/will need.

According to the weather people, we have a good stretch of dry weather atm. So that should help a lot.

Hope you get everything cleaned up and straightened out, Georgians. My thoughts are with you.
