YES. Net neutrality on the way.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski will unveil in a speech on Monday new proposals that would force Internet providers to treat the flow of content equally, sources familiar with the speech said on Friday.

The FCC could formally propose the rules aimed at applying to wireless and landline platforms at an open meeting in October.

Finally. I guess I won't bitch about comcast when they have their balls snipped. Well I hear the support sux, but at least bandwidth throttling will go the way of the dodo.

Now if we can get the idea out of the government's head that the President should assume control of the Internet in an emergency...

Reese 09-18-2009 02:10 PM

Actually, that article says they're going to unveil rules... The rule could be ISPs can do whatever the fuck they want. Or even if the rules are on the side of net neutrality they could be so vague and open to interpretation that ISPs just find a way around them..

Damn, I'm too pessimistic.

Internet for the people!!

In the long run, the FCC will always favor business interests.
It takes VERY good organized lobbying to influence them.

What does bandwidth throttling mean? Does it mean that this ...

is going to stop? I mean, can they actually? It makes no business sense. Running internet service is not the same as providing wireless services.

here's to hoping for good news tomorrow.

The U.S. has shitty internet service due to how certain companies treat it as an excuse to milk us for every cent despite other nations with twice the speed and accessibility at a more affordable rate.

We're used to mediocrity because it's all the average consumer has access to

blahblah454 09-20-2009 06:18 PM

You might have shitty internet service, but at least you have awesome cell phone plans that cost under $100 a month.
