Patrick Swayze dies at 57

Patrick Swayze passed away today, age 57. No golden years for him. Seemed like a decent guy but I can't think of any of his films that I really loved. I remember he was in Dirty Dancing and Ghost but really not my favorite movies.

Still feel for his family and friends, tough to lose someone so young.

Anyone have any movie of his that are must sees?

noodle 09-14-2009 04:53 PM

Was it RoadHouse or something like that?

Shauk 09-14-2009 04:55 PM

*sigh* guess I should expect the obvious "ghost" jokes soon.

If you want to see Swayze at his finest, and also Keanu Reeves at his, then watch Point Break.

I'm sorry to hear of his passing. He said he was doing well fighting the cancer. I was kinda hoping for some kind of comeback.

noodle 09-14-2009 05:16 PM

I don't know... I'm kinda glad for him to go this soon.

Pancreatic cancer is terribly, terribly painful and I think there's like a 2% survival rate or something.
You don't really "do well" with that kind, but I read that he said that, too.
I hope they had him on some good meds to keep him comfortable, it's an awful disease.

mykockle 09-14-2009 05:18 PM

Aww... sad... Even tho it's incredibly gay for me to say... I still love Dirty Dancing... one of the first 15 or 18 rated movies i ever saw.... "Nobody puts Baby in the Corner" *sob*

Point Blank didn't age well (neither did Dirty Dancing really) but both are great movies.

I saw some pictures of him a few months back... he looked ridiculously frail..... I'm more bummed then I thought I would be.

Thank god for a back button. I have 0 self control when it comes to tasteless humor, and had a whole post already in my head when I saw the post title.

R.I.P.

one actor that I did like, and have never heard anything bad about him.

I did like Ghost, Road House and Point Break.

SecretMethod70 09-14-2009 05:47 PM

He was awesome in Donnie Darko.

flat5 09-14-2009 05:56 PM

I think I'll watch Donnie Darko again. I too hope he went quick or at least without much pain.

I love Dirty Dancing. And Red Dawn is another Swayze movie I like. I'm disappointed that we won't get to see more of him in The Beast; I thought he was really good in that too.

RIP, Patrick.

ametc 09-14-2009 06:49 PM

I loved him in Squidbillies. lol

Watching Ghost is going to be just a little more creepy.

Reese 09-14-2009 10:17 PM

Ahem.. I have to admit to liking To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.

The Outsiders is still my favorite though.

RIP Patrick.

DaniGirl 09-14-2009 10:33 PM

I loved Dirty Dancing and Ghost.
R.I.P Swayze.

I forgot all about Point Break and The Outsiders. I also liked his SNL bit with Chris Farley.

The surfing scenes in Point Break which, in the film, take place in Australia were actually filmed on a beach near Wheeler, Oregon. About 15miles from my house at the time.

ShaniFaye 09-15-2009 02:21 AM

I still remember the first time I saw him on the big screen...the Outsiders, 1983, I was 15 and thought he was "bitchin". I had such a huge crush on him...Red Dawn was next and then my ALL time favorite mini series brought to life one of my favorite sets of books ever. Too this day I (and now Dave) watch North and South parts 1 and 2 at least twice a year. Dirty Dancing and Roadhouse (well Sam Elliott helped that one lol) and Ghost, I cry at the end every single time.

RIP man, you have been a huge part of my entertainment life.

Anormalguy 09-15-2009 04:36 AM

I knew that he was from Houston, but I never realized that he grew-up in the Garden Oaks/Oak Forest area which is just a few miles from where I lived. Hell, he might've came into the BK where I worked as a young teenager. His movies didn't do much for me (I need to watch The Outsiders, I loved the book), but he seemed to be a sincere, nice guy.

RIP.

thirdsun 09-15-2009 04:47 AM

Last film I saw him in was "11:14", an excellent art film with some (now) big names in it. It was a car crash / murder mystery told from 5 different perspectives. Well worth a Netflix rental.

R.I.P. Patrick

ShaniFaye 09-15-2009 05:11 AM

(IMO this is one of the best SNL skits ever)

little_tippler 09-15-2009 05:25 AM

I was sad to hear this. He seemed like a nice guy. Awful way to go as well.

Liked him in many movies, he was just a very charismatic actor.

RIP.

biznatch 09-15-2009 08:58 AM

I'm gonna find a copy of Point Break, which I'll be watching this evening.

Seriously though, RIP. Dirty Dancing was a good movie.

The_Jazz 09-16-2009 05:10 AM

This is by far the best obituary for Swayze that I've read. Just thought I'd share.
