Energy Levels: How bouncy are you?

In the last two months, my energy levels have somehow shot through the roof.

I've made a few major life changes. I quit taking birth control, changed to a mostly-vegetarian diet, and stopped drinking what little coffee I did drink (though I do have maybe one cup a week at work because I enjoy the taste).

Since making these changes, I bounce. I fidget nearly all day at work (not because I can't concentrate - concentration is actually easier with the normalized hormones), every time I walk down a hallway I feel like sprinting instead, and I listen to music in the car and bounce along to it all the way to work and back home. It's ridiculous, and it annoys my coworkers.

I've also lost a little weight and my skin WAS improving.

So, TFP: what are your energy levels like? Does energy come in waves or cycles or is it constant or nonexistent? Have you ever noticed a big energy level increase or decrease when making changes in your diet, lifestyle, or medications? Does any increase in energy affect your ability to sleep?

I'm going to go fidget some more now, I look forward to bouncing back to read some responses!

Yup, I too have made some changes to my lifestyle and have been quite fidgety. I've started doing light exercise and that tends to calm me. Actually, I was just about to go take a short jog because I feel excited for no frickin reason.

I bounce back and forth with energy levels. Some days I'm full of energy and I just want to run, shout, play, fight, laugh, joke, and just have fun. Alot of days I'm a sloth, lay around and yawn alot. It's more of the later than the former these days. I know this is because I'm out of shape and if I was working out more, I wouldn't be able to contain myself.

I've very hyper-active when I'm drinking. That's not the OP's orginal topic tho.

I've always been fidgety, but getting in shape pushed my energy levels through the roof. I found it difficult to sit still for quite a while. That isn't necessarily a good thing, as studying often requires me to sit still for long periods of time, but I did figure out that taking frequent breaks helps. I also try to use my newfound energy positively, by doing things like gardening and getting my house cleaned up.

Lately they've been down but that is largely because last week I slept like shit all week due to the heat; I've got a massive sleep debt I'm still trying to catch up with.

I have my up days and down days, but mostly I am set on "chill." I have enough energy to get everything done that needs doing, and I do well day by day, but given the choice, I'd rather just lie around the pool and make drinks and cook and spark one up with my boys....

I know what you mean about cleaning up the diet. When I ate lean proteins and "clean" carbs and veggies and drank nothing but water and worked out in the wee hours of the morning, I had an amazing natural energy that had me feeling I could take on anything.

Now (you think one would learn, eh) I'm slow to awaken and hit peak energy at around 11 am and it lasts until about 1 pm.

I think they key, at least for me, is feeling a sense of accomplishment, whether it's working out or doing well on the job. Any of those types of things will definitely keep me bouncing.

My sister was always the bouncy one.
5 kids took it out of her.

Me?
Yeah, sometimes I get bouncy, but it's usually unwelcome. I'd rather be patient and think logically. For some reason when I'm bouncy, I can't.

Oh, I bounce. Not always, mind you. And I definitely need recharging time (I'm a snuggler. I'll stay in bed for a good two hours after I wake up if I don't have anywhere to be.) But, yeah...I bounce more often than not. Sometimes literally, when I'm in a good mood.

After my ex and I broke up, I suddenly had boundless energy. I could stay up for two days straight, no problem. It was such a relief to be out of the relationship, like this huuuuge weight had been lifted.

Also, when I first went veg, I noticed an increase in energy. I was eating SUPER healthy, too, which certainly helped. Very few processed foods at all, and I felt amazing. (I need to get back to that. And running. I always feel better when I have a regular running schedule.)

Oh, and one last thing, birth control. I was amazed at the change after I quit Depo. I didn't realize how terrible I felt until I didn't feel like that anymore... if that makes sense.

Glad you've been feeling so bouncy yourself!

Well, I'm overweight - so technically - that's permabounce.
But I've always been the energetic go go go type.

lately though, I've been feeling burnt out - but what the hey... persistence is everything.

"Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "Press On" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

- Calvin Coolidge

So uh, stay bouncy?

I start the day feeling a bit tired, I can wake up no problem, and get myself and the kids ready for the day, but I need that first cup of coffee to really get me going. My energy level seems to peek mid-morning and then it goes downhill from there. By the time I get home, I am exhausted on most days. Not sure if this is stress related or not, but that is what happens. Somehow, my energy stays around, although at low levels, until the kids are in bed. Then I crash. My whole body is exhausted, even if my mind is not. My ex thinks it's a medical problem. I think it is just a life problem. I do have an appointment for a complete physical on Sept 1st, so we shall see who is right in this case.

i either read or heard about a book on tennis that alot of musicians apparently were reading when it came out. one of the statements from it is: if you can feel effort, you're wasting energy. this isn't a statement about not doing things, but more about trying to get to a place where you are, say, working at a technical level that enables performances to feel kinda effortless from a physical standpoint.
this makes sense to me.
so i don't bounce about much.
i have alot of energy, but i focus it.

although sometimes, particularly after spending a long time staring at a computer monitor, i lay about on my couch and watch horrifically bad reality tv shows. because, you know, they suck. but so does television. this too makes sense to me.

This is an advantage to having small boobs.

It really helps when horseback riding. I promise. I still don't like to do a sitting trot without a bra, though.. ouchies.

I'm jealous. I've always wanted to be bouncy.

I'm not sluggish, but I rarely have a LOT of energy. I'm pretty laid back, and rarely fidgety. By 3PM I'm yawning at work, but I work in an office - I think that's the norm.

I really should exercise more.

I think I have a lot of energy but I get tired fast, especially if I'm bored. I do a lot most weeks so maybe that's why I feel tired most evenings. Even so, my stamina isn't bad since I'm very determined. I'm not sure about bouncy. I reserve that feeling for when I'm really happy and doing something I love. Like dancing. I did notice when I was working out almost every day, that in the mornings I felt a lot more alert and in good spirits than usual. Exercise does wonders for general disposition.

I am about a 3/100 on the bouncy scale. Well sometimes I have energy like a small child, but those days are fairly rare.

However if I have been eating well and getting exercise consistently I have loads of energy... unfortunately it only takes about 2 days of slacking to turn into a complete sloth who wants to do nothing more than sleep.
