MJ, Still dead

I turned on the talking box this afternoon and found out MJ is still dead. People are lining up outside his old ranch, Neverland, hoping for a public viewing of his body. Seems odd to me, I don't think I'd have walked across the street to meet him when he was alive. But to each their own.

Got me wondering is there anyone you'd like to meet? Sticking with people who are currently living.

Myself I'd like to meet-

The Obama's, Jimmy Buffett, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Rush Limbaugh.

The Obama's just seem interesting to me.

I'd like to talk flying, fishing and traveling with Jimmy.

As for Pitt, no, no man crush or anything. Seems like a deeper guy then most Hollywood types. I'd like to hear his thoughts on rebuilding New Orleans, fighting poverty etc... And of course "So, Angelina huh? That's gotta be good, right?"

Cruise? I'd like to ask him "WTF is wrong with you?"

Rush I just want to punch in the face, not so much meet.

so anyone you'd like to meet?

At one time, I'd have liked to party with Hank Williams Junior.

These days I'd like to meet the Queen of England or some other nonimportant important person for no very good reason at all.

Jimmy Buffett, because honestly, that's the kind of life I want to live. I don't know what I'd ask him... I'd be content to just hang out with him.

Charles de Lint. One of my favorite authors, and from what I know of his personal life, he seems like a pretty cool guy.

Michael Ian Black. Doesn't matter what we talk about, he'll probably have me laughing the whole time.

Joan Jett, because she's one kick ass chick.

I don't know what I'd talk about with these people. I don't have any burning questions to ask them. I just think we'd (well, I'd) have a good time hanging out.

Of fucking course I say fuck in every fucking post. It makes fucking sense right?

I'd ask Pete fucking Townshend what he really wanted "Tommy" to mean. Then I'd ask him if he could play with moon man again but it would cost all his CSI grammys, would he do it. Fuck. That would be fucking golden

It's the result of a bet he lost in the early days of TFP. It's actually an obscure forum rule.

I could see the Obamas. Or more specifically, Barack Obama himself. He's the first US President in my lifetime who strikes me as a genuinely interesting human being.

John Cusack. Honestly just seems like the sort of person I'd get along with, and seems as though he'd have a lot of stories that aren't widely known. Magpie watches Inside the Actor's Studio, and I remember watching Cusack playing with an unlit cigarette the whole time and wondering about all the things he was choosing not to say.

I'm sure there's a famous guitarist or six (hundred) I could list, for all the things I could learn. BB King and Hubert Sumlin top the list, because I don't think they'll be around for much longer. Elvis Costello is also on the list, although I'm not sure he'd have as much to teach me on the guitar side. Songwriting in general maybe, and I bet he has a ton of good stories.

I thought about listing him or some other heavy hitter human rights type. Figure they'd just make my tiny brain hurt or make me realize how little I do for others.

I would like to meet Eric Johnson, so we could chat over a beer and then I could lay in the middle of the floor in a dark room and listen to him play me the 12 minute version of "Cliffs of Dover" a few times.

Kevin Smith over sandwiches at Katz' Deli because I'm sure that the atmosphere would trigger some great storytelling.
Jeff Lindsay because I'd like to get into Dexter's mind a bit.
Toni Colette, to discuss the research she did to play Tara.
I'm sure there are more I'll think of. Most of mine are dead already.

I'll throw my vote in for Jimmy Buffett too. I want to hear stories about the ocean, ships, beaches, good drinks in bad bars, fishing, makin' music for money and pretty much everything else.

Alyson Hannigan, cause you know... I'm obsessed... *BUT* she has to be red-headed.

Joss Whedon, cause I'm a fucking geek. I'll probably just squeal like a Japanese school girl in a bad hentai flick then pass out. Then I'll beg him to tell me plot line endings that never came to be. Like who the fuck was Shepard Book?

Bill O 'Riley cause I want to beat that man to death with his own microphone.

I want to hear Chuck Palahniuk read from his own books. I've heard that is the best way to experience his books.

I want to talk about food and kitchens with Anthony Bourdain.

Jack London because of The Iron Heel.
George Carlin and Mitch Hedberg, to glimpse a twinkle of the men behind the comic fronts.
Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein to discuss what went on in those brains of theirs.

And I still have no idea how I forgot Bourdain. THAT would be a blast.

Would love to meet Anthony Bourdain-- but he has a thing against vegetarians, so I don't think he'd like me very much.

Joss Whedon almost gets to idol status with me. If I met him, I'd probably just go all girly and squeak something out about being a fan, and giggle annoyingly.

This, of course, is assuming any of these people would have even the slightest interest in talking to me, lol.

Bob Dylan - I don't think he talks much, but I'd love to talk to him about music and I think it would be really awesome to sit in on a taping of Theme Time Radio Hour

Chuck D - I think it would be interesting to talk with him about politics and other mental conditions

Oliver Sacks - oh, the stories; simply fabulous, fascinating stories

David Sedaris - we could talk about anything; I'd be thrilled just to sit and listen to his voice...and laugh...laugh, laugh, laugh

Chris Rock - again with the mental conditions and the laughing

Alice Munro - I would like to know how she captures both the mundanities and peculiarities of being female so effortlessly and gracefully

Sean Penn - I am fascinated by his ability as an actor...although, I don't think he's much of a talker, either...and that's okay

Tim Gunn - my gay crush; I watched all the seasons of Project Runway on Netflix and by the end was convinced that he is the only perfect human being currently residing on the planet, heh...but maybe I'm gushing

that's all I can think of right now, but I know there are more...

oh, jesus! and Jon Stewart - who the fuck doesn't want to talk to Jon Stewart?

Dead people-

Gonna have throw another vote to Bob Fucking Marley.

Would have liked to have spent a few hours with Johnny Cash and Freddie Mercury, tho not at the same time. Don't think they'd have gotten along very well.

But if I had my choice of dead people from history several Presidents such as JFK (his brother RFK too), Ike, Truman, Lincoln, Jefferson come to mind. A long list of inventors Edison, Franklin etc... A couple of explorers would be on my list- Amelia Earhart, Ernest Shackleton and Lewis and Clark.

I think the list of dead people I'd like to meet from history would be literally endless.

Edit:

Yeah, I'd go for lunch or coffee with Jon Stewart too.

Benjamin Franklin. From eveyrthing I have read, he was one of the most fascinating people of the past thousand years. I don't mean just that he was accomplished, though he was. I mean that he was charming, charismatic, friendly, thoughtful, articulate - almost irresistible.

For pure character and intellect, combined in a practical way, Abraham Lincoln.

It's easier with dead people. Those who are still alive seem more contemptible. But of course it's human nature to feel that way.

I don't get your rationality. How is Obama any different than MJ? You say MJ isn't even worth crossing the street to meet and imply that anyone that does has some kind of problem. I could say the same about Obama. All I see are a lot of empty promises when I see him. He's just another politician to me.

And deep beneath the rolling waves,
In labyrinths of Coral Caves,
The Echo of a distant time
Comes willowing across the sand;
And everthing is Green and Submarine
