What's In YOUR Wallet?

After a good natured ribbing with Mrs. O'Rights, about all of the crap that she carries around with her, she inquired as to the crap that I carry with me. A quick inspection of my wallet revealed the following;

My driver's license
My American Legion membership card
Two debit cards, from both my personal and the joint accounts
A partialy used Walmart gift card with an unknown balance
Health Insurance card
Dental Insurance card
Vision Insurance card
Red Cross blood donors card
Omaha Public Library card
AutoZone Rewards card
An expired Health Insurance card...trash...err...shred box
Blockbuster Rewards card
Henry Doorly Zoo membership card
Baker's Plus (grocery store) shopper's card
A twenty, a ten and two singles
Fishing license
4 store receipts...trash...err...recycling bag
And two business cards...trash...err recycling bag

So...nothing overly extraneous. What about you? What are carrying around in your wallet?

Ditched the wallet and got a small purse. In that I carry my atm card, drivers license, keys and sometimes cash. I hate caring around a lot of crap.

I don't have a wallet. I put three cards into my back pocket: my driver's license, my student ID, and my debit card. I carry my keys and any cash in my front pockets.

I don't like purses; they're too easily lost.

- Pet Retreat business card
- Medical insurance card
- Check Card
- Credit Card
- Slip of paper with library book titles and call numbers such as PQ2469.E7
- 3 keychain-sized rewards cards for grocery stores

It's hardly my life... it's just some replaceable bits of plastic, some currency and a few old photos.

I could keep a lot more in my wallet but I only keep the things I am likely to need (photos and fortune cooking stuff aside).

But really I was looking more at the various money cards and your employment ID card. Maybe the money cards aren't so important cause you could call up the bank as soon as you notice you don't have it but your ID employment card is worth something if you ask me.

What you need to understand about this place is that everyone has an Identity Card. You get it at birth. This card has a number on it and you have the number throughout your life. You need this card to access services. You need this card to get through security. You need this card on a daily basis.

Canadian that I am, this screams of an invasion of privacy.

Here, it is just the way things are.

My employment pass is the immigrant's version of the Identity Card. I need to show it from time to time (on average once a week for something or other). It's easier to carry it with me than it is guess when I should.

The other bits of plastic are about the same. I suppose I could lighten the load by getting rid of the Dental Card, but I am due to visit the dentist so I need it. The Visa is a back up for when vendors don't take Amex.

Likewise, now that I looked in there more carefully I ended up trashing a few useless receipts and direct deposit check stubs, and removed a couple checks that I forgot where in there so I can deposit them in my account before they expire.

In the order I'm just pulliing them out of my slightly worn and tattered Calvin Klein wallet:
$200 cash...just went to MAC this morning
piece of paper with name/ph.no. of a guy who builds and sells street rods
piece of paper with name of good gardener/landscape guy...old Italian guy who barely speaks English so his daughter sets up all his business affairs
business card for CPSunoco, my source for Sunoco Blue 110 octane leaded racegas
business card for First State Motorsports...go Josh!!!
plastic "credit card" thing that has an imprint of a card key for my RAV4
business card for my brother-in-law
Dave & Buster's "Power Card" with ~$100 credit on it
Staples rewards card
another Dave & Busters power cards...unknown value
Salad Works "buy 10 salads get 11th free" card with 9 punched out
"racing license" for Mid Atlantic GP indoor go karting facility
Syms "educated consumer card" ...a decent discount men's clothing place
Costco "gold star member" card
driver's license ...the PA DOT one
AAA member card
local Toyota dealer service manager's card
Blue Cross/Blue Shield medical coverage card
Capital One platinum credit card
American Express Gold Business credit card
Macy's credit card
Cabela's VISA credit card
membership card for The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society
membership card for American Society of Mechanical Engieeers
primary VISA debit card from my bank

Keeping condoms in your wallet is a bad thing, because they get warmed and cooled cyclicly and this degrades the latex. Condoms kept in the pocket for any length of time, will break more often than they ought to under normal conditions.
