What would you insta-learn?

In an alternate universe, if you could wake up Monday morning with all the knowlege of your greatest passion, have a job to go to in that field and your family, house or whatever you want to take with you would be there, what would it be?

For me I would be an Archeologist. I'd head out every day while my family happily played in some little roadside shack while I dug and used little paint brushes to find antiquity. I'm much more fascinated with where we came from then where we are going.

Or, I'd be in cosomology. Either sitting around for hours on end looking at faint star patterns or in some grand think tank pondering all that is.

What would you insta-learn?

noodle 06-19-2009 05:03 PM

coping skills.

squeeeb 06-19-2009 05:04 PM

i would be a super talented writer. i'd write like tom robbins, steve martin, tom stoppard, mark leyner, and a few others all in one.

wooÐs 06-19-2009 05:10 PM

I really don't know. I just want to be happy. Not sweat the small shit. etc. etc.

I also wanted to be an Archeologist, it was my dream as a kid...I used to make my own dig sites in the yard...one day Im going to have the money to go on an Earthwatch expidition to participate in a real one

I think my Expected Answer is music related, but I don't think I'd want to take a shortcut that way. The joy is in the journey as much as the destination.

I'm actually at a loss to think of something I would like to learn instantly. How to draw, perhaps.

Punk.of.Ages 06-19-2009 06:29 PM

How to play drums.

I'm really awful at them...

Fotzlid 06-19-2009 06:29 PM

I was going to say a few specific languages, but then I read that and think that its a better idea.

Mathematics is also awesome. I love math, and to understand it even better would be like a permanent wet dream.

Another one for languages. I won't be greedy, though-- just give me Spanish, French, and Italian.

Agreed, that would be awesome. Very awesome. I would travel all over then.

I think my #1 would be either A) All the shit they loaded into Neo in the Matrix for that entire day. or B) Whatever the hell they taught Matt Damon in the Bourne Identity before he got amnesia.

Can I change my choice to that?

guy44 06-20-2009 08:40 AM

The skills required to be a major league-caliber catcher.

...That, or the ability to be the greatest pickup artist of all time.

Zeraph 06-20-2009 08:41 AM

The library of congress.

Then do whatever the heck I wanted after being properly informed about nearly everything that's been put to writing.

This brings up the interesting question, could our brains actually handle so much information? Do we have a cap? And if they can, would we go insane because we'd constantly be triggering endless lines of information?

Rekna 06-20-2009 09:01 AM

Woman logic... cause right now it just don't make sense! ;)

Daniel_ 06-20-2009 09:06 AM

Charisma.

If people like you and it's effortless you can succeed at whatever you set out to do.

Halanna 06-20-2009 10:32 AM

Wow some of you are ambitious.

I don't think I'd like to learn all the languages, but Latin and Italian are intriguing. But I wouldn't want to be a translator or anything.

Oh and I'd like to play the guitar like Eddie Van Halen but I don't have any showmanship in me, so a career as a rock star is out.

Slims 06-20-2009 10:57 AM

Languages. As many as possible. In particular:

Latin and Aramaic
Arabic
Chinese
French
Spanish/Portuguese
German
Japanese

That should make me at least conversant in 95% of the world.

As complete and detailed an understanding of history as possible.

Intimate familiarity with all the great philosophers.

And less fun but equally important: science in general and physics in particular. Medicine (instant Dr. for career progression would be nice). etc.

snowy 06-20-2009 11:06 AM

Languages, especially Latin, and those based off of it. I'm fascinated by the less-well-known Romance languages of Catalan and Occitan, and would love to wake up knowing those alongside the more obvious French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.

I'd also love to know Japanese, Mandarin, German, and Dutch instantly.

telekinetic 06-20-2009 11:45 AM

How to spot and correct inefficiency in any system or process.

ametc 06-20-2009 12:31 PM

All the languages in the world.. that has EVER existed. O__________________O!!!!!

Your brain would explode trying to comprehend that. You'd have better luck learning the entire library of congress verbatim and all the languages that ever existed before wrapping your brain around a woman's logic. A woman's mind is like a quantum computer, we just can't fathom it or what it does.

Skettios 06-21-2009 07:38 AM

How to play guitar and piano I'm thinking. It'd certainly be nice for parties!
