Yogurt ad: "Men's preference will never change."
An ad for a Brazilian yogurt company recently came out with the tag line "Men's preference will never change." the tag line is used to push their low fat, light yogurt.
one of the photos the ads were using was this: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1229/...998cc4.jpg?v=0 really? does that really look unattractive? i look and i see curves. i see a beautiful woman. granted, if she wanted to lose weight for herself thats one thing entirely. but it seems as if ads like this just add pressure to already good looking women. sending the message "slim down or you'll only get sympathy fucks." i really have nothing more to say. i guess im just getting sick and tired of seeing shit like this almost everywhere i look. all the pressure on you girls must get a bit tiresome. |
Dumb.
That's not the image to use. She looks very attractive to me. She's totally proportionate. Nothing grossly obese about her. Makes me not want to buy their product, actually, simply because of their advertising. |
is it possible you are misinterpreting the whole thing? why do you think they are saying "you women need to lose weight"? seeing as it's brazillian, perhaps they are saying "men love naked chicks covered in strawberries." you said yourself you find her attractive. i don't think brazillians want skinny chicks, so could you possibly be projecting the american "skinny is hot" ethic on some country that doesn't have it? the add in english might not have come out quite the way it does in the native language.

all of their ads for the LOW FAT/light yougurt have bigger girls...so no, i dont think im misinterpreting at all.
edit: after some googling, it seems as if the whole tag line is "..forget about it. men's preference will never change. fit light yogurt." |
Bonus question: Is this "curvy" girl photo shopped?
My preference in women doesn't matter. The visual: A big, sexy, naked woman seems out of place in advertisements. The pitch: Eat this. Get laid. The result of the provocative ad: We are talking about it. I'm pretty sure that the ad agency is pleased. "The only thing worse than being talked about, it not being talked about." -Oscar Wilde Not everyone can have/be the man/women of their dreams. |
I don't quite get the premise of the yogurt ad, and due to my lack of understanding about it and its portrayal of "thicker" provocative women and "light" yogurt, I'm not quite sure how to process the two in contrast.
I've noticed advertising agencies trying to make the most of yogurt commercials since before the millenium, either by relating/identifying with women's thoughts and actions about health consciousness, or by appealing to men's senses of intrigue and innuendo. I'm not going to make any bones about it, but I really stop, stare, & smirk each time this commercial airs. |
I'll bet it sells yogurt. Probably pushes some buttons on women who have self image issues. Next time at the grocery, they grab a handful.
Now if they eat all they buy within two hours of returning home, maybe not so much. :D |
I can't see how it's even remotely possible to interpret this ad negatively - what man in his right mind would turn down a woman that looks that good naked? I read it as: A man's preference will never change so eat the yogurt and look this good naked.
It's dumb and condescending but no more so than ads normally are. And for the record, if she came to me in search of a "sympathy fuck" - yogurt or not - I'd be happy to oblige. |
I'm no doctor, but I'm pretty sure her BMI is just under 30, which would classify her as overweight. Sure, the BMI system is a bit out of date, but it's still the system used by my doctor. She's more likely to have diabetes and heart disease because of her weight. She should eat more yogurt.
Also, as Randerolf pointed out, she's clearly been photoshopped quite a bit. |
This thread gives me deja vu...
Anyhow, the chicks hot. She's about the size I prefer my women. This doesn't matter. My opinions that of the minority. Women are pressured their whole lives about how skinny they should be. It goes so deep with some of them that it's not too hard to make them feel fat. I've witnessed chicks with literally no fat on them crying because someone called them fat... Therefore, an ad like this will sell yogurt. It's shocking, it breeds discussion, and in an almost funny way it makes people feel like shit. But, man, that chick is hot... |
Total thread deja vu. I swear I saw this in early '08. Meh, it's all about health not weight.
That and I refuse to have sex with a woman who's upper arms are thicker than my thighs. |

I understand the whole health aspect, but that girl is not that far into the overweight category. Sure, she's got a slightly better chance than I to have issues with diabetes or heart disease, but at least ankles aren't blowing out under the pressure of walking. I'm a smoker and a chronic alcoholic, anyhow. I can't really hold unhealthy life choices against anyone... Plus, big girls appreciate you more =p |
I think I've seen this pic on Fark some time last year. I believe it was a photoshop thread.
I've never been to Brasil, but from the movies and other media I've seen over the years, they seem to idealize curvy women there. |
Yeah, this ad doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I don't see how this image is supposed to make women want to eat yogurt to lose weight. That's just me.

Ah, so they're making fun of overweight women. That seems like a truly horrible marketing plan.

... Yeah, but it's more of the rap video badonkadonk types... not the baby-got-back-and-sides-and-front-and-damn-girl-a-ziploc-of-cottage-cheese type. Apparently the amount of meat in the middle ("gut") determines whether or not a woman is attractive, not the ass / thighs. |
