Farrah Fawcett dead (was "hospitalized")

Actress and former "Charlie's Angel" Farrah Fawcett has reportedly been in the hospital since Thursday.
Normally I don't care much for celebrity news. But being one of the millions of guys that bought "that" poster I've always had a soft spot for Farrah. Maybe if I were younger I'd feel the same regarding Paris et el.

Quote:
The 62-year-old sex symbol has been battling cancer for the last three years. Although she went into remission, it returned in the spring of 2007.

A jubilant Fawcett erroneously announced in early 2007 that she was cancer free.

"In the face of excruciating pain and uncertainly, I never lost hope and it never occurred to me to stop fighting – not ever," she said in a statement to fans.

Fawcett told "Extra" after her last hospital stint that she "never can say for sure" how she is doing in her cancer battle, adding "it's ongoing."

The actress previously sought alternative medicine treatments in Germany, which she later said were "tiring."

People.com confirmed Fawcett had been hospitalized. Earlier in the evening, Radaronline.com first indicated she was unconscious and long-time boyfriend Ryan O'Neal was with her.
Anyway hope she makes it.

Kate Jackson & Jaclyn Smith.

I was always a fan of Sabrina (Kate Jackson) myself... but as the 3 Charlie's Angels, they were quite an ensemble.

I just realized what was missing. Farah's surname at the time was Fawcett-Majors. She was married to Lee "Six Million Dollar Man" Majors, So in her roles as Jill Monroe on Charlie's Angels, she was known as Farah Fawcett-Majors.

To a kid, we all envied Lee.

foul she has anal cancer

Quote:
Fawcett's cancer battle brings attention to rare illness - CNN.com

Former "Charlie's Angels" actress Farrah Fawcett, 62, was hospitalized this week. She received a diagnosis of anal cancer in 2006.

This type of cancer is less common than rectal and colon cancer, and the location of the tumor and risk factors make people squeamish about discussing it openly, doctors said.

Colon cancer at one time also was not openly talked about, because of the body part and functions affected, but with the public awareness campaigns and celebrities advocating for screenings, it has been largely destigmatized. Anal cancer is less familiar.

I remember way back when my grandmother died of colon cancer. It was indeed something that was rarely heard of. Although I was a child so my awareness of such things was not great anyway. However I can't recall ever hearing about anal cancer until now. I suppose prostate cancer was the same way at some point.

As much as I don't care for celebrity-ism, situations like this do go along way toward informing the public.

I couldn't bring myself to watch that special. I've never been a huge fan of her's but I grew up with "Charlie's Angel's", "The Bionic Woman" and "The Six Million Dollar Man". It's sad to see anyone die but I find myself sick of all the media throwing these poor people's fight to live in our face's (Patrick Swayze comes to mind too, when I was a teen "Dirty Dancing" was huge!) and wonder if it's ego or what when those like Farrah actually let camera's in on their suffering.

They may very well be dying, who the hell benefit's from seeing it? My uncle died two years ago from cancer. He started out strong but the three rounds of chemo he had weakened him so badly that his body had nothing left to fight/bounce back with. Seeing the robust man I grew up with emaciated and drugged up so much he barely recognized anyone was heart wrenching. Everytime I see Patrick Swayze's face plastered across the front page of the "National Enquirer" while I'm stuck in line at the grocery, it brings it all back. Gahhh, I'm just pissing myself off.

On a lighter note, I forgot how good looking Lee Majors was back then! Na-na-na-na-na-na! (younger TFP peeps probably won't get that).

damn... that was very fast. A shame.

the only lingering question I have, I do wonder after all these years, why had not Ryan married her earlier? Why wait until she was gravely ill, yet stay partners with her for all these years?

Sorry to hear this news. Seemed like it wasn't a question of if but how soon. Hopefully she didn't suffer needlessly and her family can find peace somehow.

I always have the memories of my little B/W TV with the volume turn off so the parents could hear me watching Charlies Angels. I never knew what they were saying but I liked they way they said it.

I was very sad to hear about Farrah. But in response to the CNN comment.

Michael Jackson changed the world. He was the KING OF POP. The man who replaced Elvis in pop music. He was a cultural icon for forty years. He had the biggest music album ever recorded. We watched his life unfold; he was the first, and probably only, person we saw grow up in a world of scrutiny and fame from age, what, 5 until he died today.

I can't believe it. No disrespect to Farrah Fawcett and I was equally yelly and freaked out when my mother woke me up and told me the two had died this evening BUT it's like covering the death of, well, Michael Jackson, instead of, say, a sex icon of the 1970's who did a mildly successful 1990's film with Chevy Chase and that kid from home improvement. Michael is simply a MUCH bigger story.

I still can't believe it.

she did a heck of a lot more than a movie with Chevy Chase, if you've never seen The Burning Bed, Small Sacrifices, The Apostle, or Extremities (all of which she was nominated for awards) I might suggest you go rent them.

Im not at all saying MJ doesnt deserve his time...he was the "Elvis" of my generation....but geez I just have no words

I was being facetious for the sake of the sentiment was getting across. I realize that she wasn't a nobody. I'm simply saying it's the difference between a really good hockey player, and Gretzky. A great basketball player and Michael Jordan.

No one is arguing art here, I'm arguing success. Michael Jackson was the single most successful artist of all time. Farah Fawcett was a moderately to above average successful commercial artist. Of course CNN covers Michael Jackson; it seems like a no brainer for me.

I'm sad that they couldn't of both had time but Michael is "bigger news".

I sorry I think comparing MJ to Elvis is an insult to Elvis. Don't remember Elvis constantly fending off allegations of child abuse.

Yes Tully. It was a comparison of musical success; not one of their personal problems (something Elvis wasn't without). I'm not a huge fan of Michael Jackson but I recognize that he is what he is.

Farrah as well. Again: what a loss.

I think the thing I thought douchey with how CNN handled it was Larry King saying how they ere prepared to devote the whole show to Farrah, but now that Jackson has died that is all in the past. If Jackson was that special, I would think that enough people would give enough of a shit about him to tune in to Larry King Live tomorrow night too.

Why isn't there a separate thread for her announcing she's passed? I don't think it's necessary to keep all FF or MJ topics in one thread. Plus it'll get more hits on Google if there's a thread entitled 'Farrah Fawcett dies,' etc. Just a pro tip.

Plus I think it's a little more respectful but I'm hokey that way.

probably the same reason that when MJ died we all initially used the thread already going on about him being sick, and the title got changed and then merged with all the othe MJ is dead threads people were starting....none of the mods has changed the thread title here yet

That was exactly my point about being less than happy....the way it was handled was just so disrespectful to Farrah
