Free food
I loves me some free food. Today (feb 3) till 2pm Denny's has free grandslam breakfasts.
Anyone else goin for some chow? I think I may go twice. |
The nearest Denny's is the next town over, and since it's on the freeway, I imagine it will be too busy. So no, I'll be staying home--though we did think about going :)

Me and a coworker just went to Denny's about 15 miles away and there were at least 100 people outside in line in the freezing cold. So probably 120+ people in line. Normally at a restaurant you wait 20 minutes if there are 20 people in line at least so that would mean standing in line for over an hour, probably 2 hours, maybe more. No thanks!!!!!!

Isn't a Grand Slam like $5? Everyone is getting worked up into a frenzy over this...I don't get it.
|
Five bucks is five bucks, eh?
And it's in the form of calories. Good promo. People like free things; it doesn't matter what it is, usually. |
I went @ 7:15 this morning. Food was surprisingly good. About a 15 minute wait.
|
I wonder how much these customers are tipping the waitstaff?
I'd add in the $5 to the actual bill and tip as normal. |
The nearest Denny's is 30 miles away. Sadly, we will miss the free grand slam.

Free stuff is fun, and the breakfast was good. But the wait was pretty bad, it was 45 minutes for me. If I'd have known before hand I wouldn't have bothered driving out. Luckily I needed to buy a garden hose from the area anyway. I tipped 2 bucks on my free meal. Not sure if it was expected or not. The waitress seemed pretty impressed so I'm guessing not a lot of people tipped.
I offered to share my booth, but this annoying salesman ended up sitting with me, he repeatedly tried to sell me his scheme even as I asked him not to. Soured the whole experience. |
Tallahassee has no Denny's. Not a single one. Sooooooo glad I moved out of that shit hole hick town.
|
There's one in Whitby. I think. The only one I know about around here. That's about 45 km away. if i was closer.......

The Free Colon-Cleanse was in full force most of the day here.
there is one (unfortunately) that opened on the main road in front of our condos after we bought ours. i just wanted to get to the doctor on time. some woman in a suburban just wanted her free breakfast and one for each of her six kids. i won. |

Leto, there used to be a Denny's in Scarborough at Markham and Ellesmere. No idea if it's still there.
There is definitely no Denny's here. |
and at Don Mills and Finch... It's gone too.
|
I'm all about the free food, but there was no way I was going to travel downtown to the one Denny's here. It would have cost $4 in gas to drive there and back, $1-$2 for parking, then there would have been hundreds of people in line because it is right by a university, hospital and downtown. It might be good, but not worth dealing with all of those people.

God, this is making me miss the Awful Waffle (Waffle House) outside Fort Bragg. They had two of 'em across the street from each other there.
Mmm... greasy crap food. Nothing better at 2 AM after diving out of a C17. |
I pass a Denny's every day, but had no desire to wait that long to save $5. Time has a value too.
