school kid suicides

My school went 15 years without a suicide. Then last year, there were 4. bit strange. How many kids self-destructed while you were there?

spectre 07-01-2003 06:15 PM

Once in elementary school, none in high school.

The_Dude 07-01-2003 06:15 PM

none, but a lot died in other ways.

Nyenrodian 07-01-2003 06:17 PM

None, i can't remember anyone even in my neighbourhood commiting suicide that I knew off.

Spanky Johnson 07-01-2003 06:20 PM

Hmmm, no suicides that I remember. I did know a guy who died accidentally during autoerotic asphyxiation though. I don't recommend it.

clockworkgreen 07-01-2003 07:59 PM

I only remember one. But we had kids get run over by trains, pulled under tractors, heroin ODs, car accidents, dying on the field of football games. Lots of fun stuff in high school. Little backwoods town in SE Pennsylvania....

cumonuri 07-01-2003 08:24 PM

only person i knew to kill himself was my grandfather who was in a lot of pain. and a kid that my mom teaches father killed himself at 45 with 4 kids. very sad he was rich as well. i have no clue why he did it

sadistikdreams 07-01-2003 08:50 PM

I killed myself during Junior High.

bermuDa 07-01-2003 09:13 PM

the only one I remember was during my senior year: a sophomore cheerleader who hung herself in her closet over a boyfriend who dumped her... I've always thought suicide was the most selfish form of death*. Now that poor boy is scarred for life, he'll probably be afraid to get in another relationship, let alone break up with another girl.

*Although I believe assisted suicide for the elderly or severely infirmed should be legal, I still think it's a selfish act. very rarely does anyone commit suicide with others in mind

KillerYoda 07-01-2003 09:21 PM

Never anyone I knew, but my years in school were marred by over-dramatic teenagers:
1 in elementary school
3 in junior high
7 in high school (2 of which followed the suicide of another kid)

Then, if you count murders (1, a murder/suicide involving a jittled boyfriend), car crashs (three kids burned up in a drag racing incident, while another kid died in a hit and run while changing a tire), fire (2 kids in different house fires), drugoverdoses (1 kid mixed alcohol with prescription medicine, while another died at a rave on ecstacy and acid) and jail sentences (1 kid murdered his entire family, but did not kill himself), the result is my high school reunion being rather empty.

Note: However, some of the deaths were from the grade below me, since people have a tendency to graduate as juniors, I decided to count them too.

SiN 07-01-2003 09:28 PM

hm, the only one i can recall, is the younger sister (she was prolly 12-14) of one of my friends killed herself.

poured gasoline all over herself and lit herself on fire.

kinda strange way for a girl to go about it.

never found out why (seriously depressed, family problems, pressure to achieve..dunno.)

phredgreen 07-01-2003 09:43 PM

it wasn't intentional, but it may as ell have been... my city (mesa) is just that... a large, flat parcel of land. during the lunch break a bunch of dipshits got themselves high and a bit liquored up then wen joyriding... they were running down the mesa (large grade) at or around 75 mph... an older couple in a minivan started pulling out of a side street as these ocks were nearing the bottom, the dipshits had no control of their truck and struck the van, glancing off of it and hitting HARD into a power pole... destroed the truck, killed the two passengers and seriously fucked up the driver...

i didn't know any of these dipshits, but i felt an odd, almost smug sense of satisfaction when i found out what had happened. darwinism at its best.

That was kind of the same thing as the three guys in my town who burned up drag racing. They got drunk and stoned, ran a red light racing someone, then slammed into a tanker trunk. The car got stuck under it and burst into flames burning up all three. And the town acts like they died heroically in battle or something.

which brings up a whole different subject altogether... the almost-deification of the dead, especially when it's a person that no-one really liked in the first place... all kinds of people were crying and wailing about lost innocence and youth and all that garbage when these kids died, but c'mon... these dipshits killed themselves with stupidity. they got EXACTLY what was coming to them.

I have been effected directly by suicide more than I care to count just in the last 7 years. Brother, nephew, nieces fiance`(who was like family) and two friends.

During school years ago one guy put the gun in the roof of his mouth and the bullet went straight through, missing anything major. He came back to school the next year with a metal plate as a scull but other than that was completely "normal" in everything else.

Jesus Pimp 07-02-2003 03:59 AM

One in high school. This kid who sat across from me in keyboarding(typing) class shot himself with his dad's gun while his parents left him and went on vacation without telling him

That has got to be one of, if not the most fucked up things that I have ever heard.

Man... that's just made my night a whole lot worse. :(

papermachesatan 07-02-2003 07:19 AM

You can't ask for a better way to go out- in the midst of an orgasm. Still, I'd have say that I'd rather not be found in such a compromising position.

You weren't very thorough, were you?

ninety09 07-02-2003 07:51 AM

2 commited suicides while I was in HS. I didn't care at all though, I don't pity anyone who offs themself.

Tom Thumb 07-02-2003 09:20 PM

2 while I was in high school, yeah. Their choice, but I kinda regret not knowing them just the same.

Stiltzkin 07-03-2003 11:10 AM

One kid died in elementry. Him and his older bro were working on a car, and the thing they were using to prop up the car failed for some reason, and it crushed him. This was in the same apartment complex I was living in at the time, and I was maybe 80 feet away from the incident. I never saw anything, though.
In highschool, some stupid chicks went down to whitesands and were riding around on a "quad"-- one of them four-wheeled motorcycles. Four chicks somehow managed to get themselves onto that one quad, and the bike somehow went out of control, and it landed on one of the girls. She died instantly. Oh well. "No great loss". Read "The Stand" by Stephen King. Its a good book... sorta.

krwlz 07-03-2003 11:17 AM

I think we had one. Kid blew his head to pieces with a shotgun. Yup, I live in the sticks. That may have been a break-up related death as well.

As far as suicide goes, I see it as the ultimate label that you are indeed a fucking pussy, and cant handle life. I think everyone who even considers it should grow up and grab life by the balls, and see where it takes you. Don't just lie down and die.

Amethyst 07-03-2003 08:24 PM

No suicides while I was in High School but a few deaths.

Mesmerize 07-03-2003 09:02 PM

I can't think of anyone from my school that died while I was attending, and I haven't heard of any deaths in the 1 year+ since.

Janie 07-03-2003 09:26 PM

A couple deaths, one a teacher. Another a girl that not too many people knew. A third shot up at a gang incident at a karaoke bar. No suicides. Not a bad record, for one of the worst schools in the suburbs of Van.

dawnylou 07-04-2003 01:16 AM

Hmm.
One lad I knew hanged himself with his school tie when he was 14.
And one girl overdosed on ecstasy. Not suicide though.

But last year a really really good friend of mine laso killed himself. He overdosed and was still at school. Aged 16. :(

Blunt 07-05-2003 08:24 PM

No suicides yet, or even deaths.

I know tonnes of kids who "want to commit suicide". But all they do is bluff.

MSD 07-05-2003 09:21 PM

Friend of mine last year.

One other death, from pneumonia.

Stare At The Sun 07-05-2003 09:55 PM

Friend hung himself, his brother walked in to see his brothers lifeless corpse. God, i couldnt imagine that. Horrible...i went through some tough shit in my times, but suicide is never the answer..

JStrider 07-05-2003 10:13 PM

there was a suicide my freshmen year... some upper classman didnt know him...

there was a girl killed in a car wreck that same year...

and some guy got creamed by a big rig my senior year(his fault he was drunk) seemed like almost everyone was all sad... even tho the guy was a complete asshole....
