How many of you clean on New Years?

We get a day off work but here at the highthief household we feel irresistably compelled to clean the house. The Missus has done the bathrooms and the kid's room, while I've been in charge of floors and the kitchen.

Anyone else have a New year's tradition of cleaning up?

My personal tradition is to lie in bed most of the day feeling sick and wondering how my head can hurt like this...

No New Year's day cleaning ususally happens in our household, but since I put it off most of last year, I attacked cleaning out the extra bedroom on our second floor; we had been accumulating all sorts of junk in that room, toys the kids weren't playing with, a couple extra TV's, a bunch of my car stuff, clothes...so I cleaned it all out, rearranged the bed and furniture, swept and dusted; we plan to move one of my boys into that room so they don't have to share the other large bedroom...even though until now they wanted to be in the same room, now that they're 12 & 13 they want their own rooms.

I'm glad I got that done before the New Year's party since I had a couple too many tastes of a new Scotch I found at this party and I sure wouldn't want to be doing any work today. I really liked this Scotch very much, it's Caol Ila from Islay; it has a very interesting peatiness, sweet, smokey, warm...but not nearly as "hit you over the head with peat" as Lagavulin or Laphroaig....will try again many times this year in preparation for cleaning out our 3rd floor junk accumulations.

I cleaned on Boxing Day, as we had the grandparents over to see our house. We did a really deep cleaning then. We'll probably do some cleaning today, as this is pretty much the last opportunity we'll have to get the house straightened up before term starts on Monday.

no, that's the last thing I want to do on New Year's Day. Each to his own...

I'm doing laundry right now.
As soon as my clothes are dry, I'm headed outside to chop some frost-damaged bougainvilleas to the ground. Tomorrow's a trash day.
Other than that, I'm catching up on my full Tivo'd collection of USA's NCIS marathon of a couple days ago.

It's a day off, so, yea, I clean a little, do laundry, etc., but I wouldn't call it a tradition; more like a recovery operation from Christmas.

I wanted to, today. Sort of this "it's a new year, start over with a clean living space" type thing.

I haven't actually done anything yet, though. hmmm.

...excuse me for asking but it relates to cleaning.
Can any of you folks recommend a reliable, competent cleaning service or person for the immediate western suburbs of Philadelphia? If so, please PM me. Thank you in advance.

We were supposed to take down our xmas decorations today... instead we saw a movie (Slumdog Millionaire, was good), took our pup to the dog park and now there's lots of cooking going on.

In terms of productivity, it beats last year by far.

I ended up cleaning more than I thought I would today. I cleaned my kitchen, swept up my house a bit, organized my room, put away some laundry, and did some other organizational things to get ready for school on Monday.

New Year's day is strictly for hangover recovery. This year I woke up at 11, went back to bed after half an hour, and woke up at 7PM.
