Serpico Lives!

So, I just finished watching Serpico, the classic Pacino movie and true story about NYC's whistle-blowing honest cop in the 1960s, for the first time.

Then, I decided to google around for a bit to learn more about Frank Serpico. At the bottom of his Wikipedia entry, I found a link to his official webpage. Then, from his webpage, I found this: Serpico's blog.

Am I the only one who finds it mindblowing that Frank Serpico, who until today I only knew of as some sort of pop-culture archetype for "good cop," is a living, breathing human being who keeps a friggin' blog? The guy was born in the 1930s, for crying out loud!

Seriously, I'm just stunned. I guess you can find just about anything on the internet.

Truth is stranger than fiction. Guy was a total novel character that just happened to also be a real man.

His life story is real popular in entry level Admin of Justice college programs.

Serpico is interesting because he decided to ditch the US for quite a while after the shot-to-the-face incident. That takes a lot of balls, I'd imagine. Really disillusioned with the US.

Can't say I blame him.

I believe his actions had a huge impact on law enforcement. I don't think I would have been interested in LE as a career without knowing the integrity checks they have in place actually have teeth.

Policy is just words on a page until somebody tests it.

I know little of the man, but I do know the movie was based on a real life man.
Great freakin' movie!
