105 year old virgin

and you though 40 was old

Quote:
Meet Britain's oldest virgin

Britain's 105-year-old virgin puts her longevity down to a life of celibacy.

Clara Meadmore, who will celebrate her birthday tomorrow, says she never married or had a boyfriend because she was always "too busy".

"I have just never been interested in or fancied having sex," the Daily Mail reported Ms Meadmore as saying.

"I imagine there is a lot of hassle involved and I have always been busy doing other things."

The Glasgow-born retiree made the decision to avoid sex at the age of 12.

"People have asked whether I am a homosexual and the answer is no," Ms Meadmore said.

"When I was a girl you only had sex with your husband and I never married."

Born in 1903, Ms Meadmore can remember the outbreak of the First World War and the sinking of the Titanic.

When not working as a secretary or house cleaner, she occupied herself with hobbies including reading, gardening, walking and cooking.

After knocking back "several" marriage proposals, Ms Meadmore soon found herself "too old to marry anyway".

"Everything seems so fast these days. I don't know a lot about young people or the way they do things," she said.

"I'm sure it's very different."
was going to put this is sexuality, but the article didnt really touch on sexuality, so ill leave it in here and see where it heads.

what do you guys think? im not sure whether to believe it or not. do you guys know any old person whos never had sex? i guess apart from nuns.. but she doesnt get the rewards of nuns in the afterlife.

they fail to touch on self induced de-floranation. is sex only between 2 people? has she even experienced an orgasm..surely she has. why would you want to be in self exile?

apart from the members who had parten in the celibacy from masturbation thread a few years ago, who had been or tried to be celibate for a period of time?

I don't think I want to know about the sex life, existent or not, or any old person.

yes, but surely you'd know that your 90 year old grandmother at some point was having sex....unless her name was mary.

one thing that caught my attention was the fact that she said she was always too busy. reading gardening etc... i mean, how much sewing gardening reading can you do? the only thing i can think of is that she has problems with her libido, or she has some phsychological issues with sex that she does not disclose

That is what I was thinking, sounds like a flimsy excuse. I bet she had some real issues about sex. It must have scared her or grossed her out in some way.

I can't imagine that, over the years, reagaining at least someeee interest? And turning down "several" marriage proposals, you'd think she got really close to at least a few guys?

Young people these days multitask moreso than before, i've heard.

Dlish - one doesn't need to be a nun or monk (cloistered religious), sister or brother (religious), priest or deacon (ordained religious) to take a vow of chastity. Their numbers are few, but there are women and men today who choose the life of consecrated virginity. And they are supposed to get most of the same benefits as their religious counterparts in the afterlife.

There are people who are asexual in this world. This woman is most likely one of them. Good for her that she didn't give in to conventions and marry unhappily. Sounds like she feels she has lived a full life.

I know two women who fit this profile, both age 65+. They move quickly and fill their lives with good works. They saw no reason to experience life in any other way. They are selfless and friendly people. I am glad they have touched my life.

I'm not sure but I may have done. She has passed on now. But she never married and had no children. I'd say it's possible. I also think some generations back, things were quite different sexually. I'm not sure masturbation was exactly as widely accepted as it is now and I imagine some girls never did it. I don't know...anything's possible.

I don't really see the problem... you don't need to have sex to lead a full life, or to be a "normal" person. Maybe she had issues with it, maybe she really just grew into an old maid (due to not having sex because she wasn't married) and couldn't be bothered to worry about it, who knows.

It's really not at all that hard to believe. There are plenty people who go through life without having sex. I also buy her credit to a long life. Compromise kills. It's just that if you have a relationship, you value your 50+ years as a couple more than 105 years alone.

Some people don't need it. Some do.

This woman would have come of age when a good many British men were off dying over a patch of mud and mustard gas. The dynamics of this are actually easy to work out.

poppin, she did recieve some proposals though and turned them down, so its not like there were no men around.

made me laugh when she said she was asked if she was homosexual.

thanks GG. you're right. but those two women, were they part of the church that you grew up in?

Nope, they're Catholic. I didn't know any single older Mormon women.

That is really looked down upon in the Mormon church. It is a woman's duty first and for most to get married and have children.

I had 2 female teachers in high school that were devout Mormons and were never married. At that time, I'd say one was about 40 and the other late 40's. 13 years later they both still teach there, and both still have their maiden names. Are they virgins? Can't say. But I'd wager they were when I was in school.

I don't see how this is really that big of a deal. Abstinence doesn't prove sexual disorder but IMO it doesn't make you morally superior either. The only real consequential result here is that her genetic material will not be inherited by anyone.

GG,over the weekend ive been thinking about what you said. obviously nuns, priests etc take vows for a reason and by keepin those vows, there is a reward at the end of the day.

this woman though, lets asume that she never abstained for any religious woman. would she be getting the same rewards as a priest or nun? i think not. i dont think she should get rewarded for something she did unintentionally.

its like me for example in ramadan. if i fasted a whole day, im expecting a reward (and not just a huge meal at the end of the day). say i had a co-worker who forgot his money at home, and couldnt buy lunch, so he didnt eat all day till he got home. do i expect that god will reward him for his fasting? its the intention in your action that should be rewarded not the mere act in my opinion.

sorry for the threadjack...its been spinning in my head for a few days.

and i thought that newton was gay too.

I heard about this...apparently she attributes her longevity to her celibacy? Personally, if I had to be celibate, I think I'd drop dead a lot earlier from tension/stress, but I suppose you can't miss what you've never had.
