Thinking Cap to boost creativity and intellect?
I was amused and a little weirded out by this piece of news:
Quote:
Thinking it over, I might wear it. I'd say I'm already a pretty creative person and I'd be way to curious to pass up this opportunity. I can imagine being blocked on some idea and I'd pop this on and suddenly be enlightened - perfect! Though I'd worry about my poor brain...seems dangerous somehow. I like the fact that it could help people with mental illnesses though. If all of us became geniuses though, then what would be so amazing about it anyway? Would you give this a go? Do you think it would work?

I wouldn't mind trying it in a controlled environment as long as a few neurologists had a look at it and said it's safe first. I've read enough about the effects of magnetic fields on the brain to say with relative confidence that it's at least plausible.

I love how in the ad it says "...disturbs the electrical circuit on the right hand side of the brain..."
Do I need more disturbance? Do any of us?

Doesn't anyone read science fiction? This the prelude to mind control... It's the equivalent of a character in a horror film going into the basement.

I've read/heard about using your non-dominant hand to do everyday stuff, for example: brush your teeth with your left hand if you are right handed. This maps out new electron paths, nueron paths, whatever, I forget, but it supposedly boosts creativity by causing some electric newness in your brain. I think this cap is trying to accomplish the same thing.
I know what I'm talking about, I'm just fuzzy on the details. I'm sure you'd all take me more seriously if I were more eloquent. |

Been done already in seriousness, I'm guessing. . no, this won't work. . It's probably like those magnet bracelets that everyone was so excited about a couple years back. . the ones that supposedly filtered toxins. If a magnetic field is all that's required then sleep next to an iron lump. |

I think I'll try to tap that creativity another way. Strapping an electromagnet to my head just seems a little risky to me.

I'd do it in a heartbeat in about 5 years, when my girls are out of high school.
I wonder if it could return my brain of 20 years ago.
