What did you think of your high school experience?

So far, (senior next year) I absolutely hate it. I hate the people and the administration.

You are a smart man, I got kicked out of my high school so i can agree with your opinion of the administrations of high schools

I hold nothing but the utmost apathy towards my high school, as well as my hometown.

I dropped out during my senior year. High school sucked.

Apathy is the word. I'll just try to get through it and not get killed in the process, which is harder than it sounds even without school shootings.

High school was fun for me, despite the whole "emo" thing. I got to kick some ass, make fun of people in school newspaper cartoons, and the parties were fun.

Prom still sucked ass, though.

high school wasn't bad for me. the administration did suck though as they didn't give a rat's ass about the kids...only how good the school looked to everyone else. I think it's just one of those things that you should tough through.

p.s. college is awesome

just graduated, and i kinda miss it now.

best thing to do is adopt a "i dont care what people think about me" attidude, and you'll have fun

I graduated 3 years ago and hated it...I don't miss anything from high school

I was kicked out of 2 different high schools. Besides that it was pretty fun for me. I didn't really give a shit what people thought and had fun at parties and pulling pranks. Do I miss it? A little..

High school was more difficult the further I progressed.

My junior and senior year sucked ass. I just had a hard time accepting stupidity. Something I've learned to deal with today, although I still have a hard time with it.

I do miss my classmates and some of the teachers, but the adminstration can suckle on my left testicle.

It fairly well sucked. My school was 700 students K-12, my class was 42 students. I was taking college classes in 8th grade and stuck out like a sore thumb. I was a teacher's pet and nobody would date me. At least from my town - had to go elsewhere to find other misfits like me. My best friend was fucking gorgeous and all the boys I liked were in love with her. Eventually I stopped caring. I had two really good friends, one of whom was just as weird as I was, and we had our own little world that pretty much didn't involve anybody else, and we just stopped caring what anybody thought of us, and enjoyed shocking the hell out of people. At the same time, I was doing every extracurricular activity I could lay hands on to pad my college applications, and sleeping about 4 hours a night. Not a fun time and I wouldn't do it again.

High school wasn't all that bad for me. I didn't like 90% of the people, so I usually ended up alone. But then again, it's in HS that I met most of my current friends and my girlfriend. Also, I'm very happy to have a good education.

Knowing how high school kids are, adopting this behavior will most likely make you a colossal liar. Beware.

I enjoyed for the most part my highschool years. I took electives that were what I wanted, and just did enough work to make an average grade in the required classes I did not like.

My socials teach and I did not get along, so I made a point of achieving as close to 50% in his class as possible, and then acing the gov. exam final so there would be a large spread in his stats that may be spotted some day.

Times havelikely changed however.

I hated high school. High school sucks because people are there who don't want to be. College is great because 95% of everyone there cared enough to either pay, or get funding to attend, so they want to be there.

Well as most people know, high school is more about training you to fit into society more than it is about educating you. College is where the real education is at. Now you can go off about how HS just trains you to be a corporate zombie to the American capitalist machine like everyone does, and that's true to an extend. But you also have to concede that it does help young people learn to fit in. If you don't believe me, find people who went to really small private schools, or worse, home schooling. Their opinions are even more myopic and they risk being socially handicapped.

All this said, I didn't think HS was that great except for a few classes with good teachers and hanging out with my friends. But it's one of those things that "you get what you put into". I left my senior year to do running start and finished my freshman year of college instead, and I thought it was both a good and bad move. It was very smart academically speaking, but I did miss out on a lot of potential good times with my friends.

You can hate the adminstration all you want, but don't forget that they're not there because they want to make your experience miserable. There are very restrictive boundaries that public education has to work within, and along with that is a ton of legal responsibility.

But anyway, despite all this, it does suck for some people. Lots of us were just too mature to fall into the trendy crap that too many HSers are interested in, and want something more. How friendly and mature your class is varies from school to school. I thought my class was pretty laid back and didn't suffer too horribly from lots of the problems that I know are around, but whatever, I'm rambling. :crazy:

To conclude, enjoy what you can, ignore what sucks (it'll all vanish soon, trust me), and just enjoy being young. Worst case situation: if you really can't stand HS for another year, do what I did, and make the state pay for your college through a headstart program and go to community college. You escape your peers, save money, and learn to be cynical about even more things in the world! :D

High school wasn't a big deal for me, I was really too busy working full time to pay the bills to care too much. I made a name for myself at commencement when I had the MC announce that I'd be "Studying Marine Biology.... at Red Lobster" as I picked up my diploma, inciting a huge round of laughter, since I was near the end of a painfully boring ceremony, tons of people were congratulating me at the grad party that night, most of which I had never spoken to.

I absolutely hated my high school. The administration was out to get the students, rather than to help them, and life in general sucked school wise.

College is much better though.

Hey Guccilvr? what'd you get kicked for? i got booted for 133 skips in one semester, with two classes... it was great.

High School was an awful experience, granted half of it was my fault ofr being a dork. The administration was wierd too. However the History department had nothing but the best teachers, the kind you actually looked forward too.

College is by far a great experience, try it sometime

all I can say is that I miss the summers off, the winter breaks, the finished at 2:30...not having to pay for anything...

I can empathize with lurkette. I grew up in a small community in S.W. Pennsylvania, with a graduating class of 83 students in 1980, if I remember correctly. Once you're labled a "dork" you have that label 'till the bitter end. I, however, *did* date the mousy little teacher's pet. She was horribly made fun of, but I found her attractive, she was smart and a lot of fun to be around, once she opened up. I hated HS, back in the day. Now, I look back and wonder "Why in the Hell did I *ever* give a shit about what those inbreds thought of me?"

I thought about going to my twenty year reunion back in 2000. Then I thought "Why would I travel 1200 miles (+/-) just to see a bunch of idiots that I didn't like when I lived there?" I had 3 or4 *good* friends then, 2 of which I still keep in touch with. I didn't go.

For the most part I enjoyed my time in high school. I had several good friends and was well liked for the most part. I liked a lot of my teachers and actually enjoyed one or two of the classes.

Then again, I went to private school. I think if I went to a government school I probably would have hated it as well.

I went to a private school since the 6th grade. I had friends at school, but the friendships ended once I got home. I hung out with them only a few times when school wasn't in session. I was in a class of 12 students and we were all misfits, We had alot of fun but the teachers were christian nuts, not even my religion so we had ALOT of disagreements and they were very close minded. The woman teaching the year I quit was a horrible teacher, and very rude. I quit the same day as 2 other people, Within a week 2-3 other people quit. They closed down after the year was completed.

I wish I had stayed in public school and put more effort into it. I think it would have been better on me professionally and socially. I just don't think a GED and a few years of college will every equal a High School Diploma.

I thought I hated high school until I joined the military and found there are much worse things out there. I look back and wish I had done a lot more, had released my inhibitions and done all the things that make the high school years so great. Enjoy them, because things change drastically afterwards.

I never enjoyed highschool. I've been out 2 and a half years, and I'm mighty glad too :D

High school was, well...it was high school. Could'a been better, could'a been a lot worse.
Had my friends I hung out with, politely ignored others, who politely ignored me. Never let anything, or anybody, really get under my skin. Did my time in quiet anonymity, and moved on.
20 year reunion is tonight, and I will go, and catch up with some people, whom I haven't seen since the 10 year, and then I will come home, and life will go on.

I sent my old principal (now the superintendant) an email recently. It said, "Thirteen years later I still hate your fucking guts. You're an asshole." I signed my name and included "Class of 1990." I graduated with 50 people so I'm pretty sure he remembers me. I doubt I'll hear back but I feel much better.

I'm alarmed at how many of you remember high school. Mine certainly has some hazy bits... hehehe...

high school is definitely not preparation for life in the real world. It's baby-sitting for teenagers. Kid stuff. If you can't tell I still hold a little grudge against my high school's administration. The peer group wasn't too bad, but I probably would've gone crazy if I hadn't skipped a grade.

I spent my first and third years being antisocial and not talking to anyone, or at least being an utter asshole when I did speak to them.

Hated those years.

My second and especially my fourth years I was more friendly and such, and found I enjoyed them much more. Finding a group of friends, especially considering it was a group of hipster-like outsiders, made this last year bearable.

I still wouldn't go back for another year regardless of how much I was paid, though.

High school was hell. antisocial, miserable, lonely, bored, empty hell. I walk back on that campus to pick my sib up, and I cringe.

I miss High School. Gym class rocked, and I enjoyed kickin it with friends all day. Classes were often boring, but it was a laid back atmosphere with no worries.

I agree with Cross-Over... I figured more people woulda liked it lookin' back at it. I've been out of it for about 2 years now, and I must admit it was fun. Sure it had it downers... but hey it was great. Good Friends, Great teachers (not all of them mind you), and just good fun to be had. Because of my friends and I, No one can play D&D in the Computer Science Room :D:D:D THAT is funny enough in and of itself. Great times.

Cherrios, you say it was antisocial? Hmm, I dunno, it wasn't for me, and no i wasn't in the "popular" group.

Oh and to note, I went to a public school. A huge school, and it holds its stories, and I still go back to visit from time to time.

Sucks to hear how shitty most of your high schools were. Though I (like many of you it seems) was sort of a "dork" in high school, I look back and appreciate how good the education there was. I attended my 10 year reunion last fall, and SOOO many people now have Masters or Doctoral degrees, mostly in math and science. Those same "nerds" also are married with kids and are extremely happy.

My greatest thrill at the 10 year reunion, however, was to see that the "popular" kids from my class haven't grown up one bit. They are all single, have no direction in their lives, and resort to getting drunk as their primary form of entertainment/social interaction.

I'm mostly happy that my high school taught me how to write. I never thought I was that great at writing papers or what have you in college until I started teaching at the University level. SOOOO many kids can't put a thought together on paper these days.

i had a similar experience as Gakface and Cross-Over. Generally great times all round, except for end of year exams, but i still took it all pretty easy and got into my first choice for university. Though i imgine schooling in australia is somewhat different to america. Best times where socialising and playing basketball at luch, also all school social occasions in our final year, like disco, school ball/prom and dinners. Was great :D
Also i went to a public school; had i gone to a single sex private(ie boy) school i think things would've been quite different, and maybe for the worse. Loving uni at the moment tho, however i've always wondered what it would be like to baord at uni or college and have all those frat parties and also independance (i have quite a bit of independance still, just i am living with my folks still)...but thats what i see on the movies/tv, so god know what it is really like....
