Matt Mason and The Pirate's Dilemma

here's a smaller version for those with shorter attention spans <div style="width:425px;text-align:left" id="__ss_215736"><object style="margin:0px" height="355" width="425"><param name="movie" value="http://static.slideshare.net/swf/ssplayer2.swf?doc=the-pirates-dilemma-1199080338296995-2"/><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"/><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><embed src="http://static.slideshare.net/swf/ssplayer2.swf?doc=the-pirates-dilemma-1199080338296995-2" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="355"></embed></object></div> "If were sued every time you accidentally violated copyright law in a single day, how much money would you owe?" An interesting question Mr. Mason posits in the beginning of this keynote address. He does touches on ideas on how piracy is a good thing for society. It's an interesting speech, and I can see how the underground feeds the mainstream. I've always seen and understood that. Maybe that's where the "tipping point" or "sellout" point is. I'm not sure. What's the amount you guessed? I guessed $60,000. I was surprised at the answer but I'm not sure how he got to that number. I still have another 15 minutes to watch.

I listened to that all. It was a really good speech. A lot of time and energy is spent trying to maintain the status quo. What history tells us though, is that methods change and those who fight against change are the ones who get dragged under by it.
