Bachelor & bachelorette parties

A couple of friends will probably have some sort of bachelor and bachelorette parties so I started reading web sites to get new ideas and laugh at the urban legends and then I tought about starting a thread here on the topic.

By the way: What is the norm you are used to; Are the parties always single sex? If you are the opposite gender of your best or close friend and hang out with his/her friends regularly, would you consider asking if everybody is ok with the mixed gender thing, go to his/her fiance's party or not go at all?

-------------

Urban legend, been all over the Net:

In Sweden it is a bit of a custom for the groom to be kidnapped and whisked off somewhere for his stag night, which usually lasts all day and all night- rather than the typical Aussie stag night where you all arrange it beforehand, go out, get smashed and hire a stripper.

The Swedes do it differently. The groom has no idea until he gets nabbed. He might be dressed up in something crazy... and go do something funny...and then the fun starts!

This particular guy was a keen sailor. And when he was kidnapped for his stag night they pasted a false "skippers-beard" on him and put him at the helm of a 60-foot yacht and let him be skipper for the day. Much beer and fine food was consumed - the day was satisfying but uneventful.

In the evening when they returned to shore, they went about getting cleaned up for a big night on the town. As is customary in Sweden, the boys hit the sauna. Imagine the groom’s horror when he walked into the sauna where his naked buddies were waiting for him, only to notice that best mate number one had no pubic hair ... neither did friend two ... nor three ... or four...

Now take another look at the false beard at the top of the page.

---------------------

Urban legend, from a news paper:

Blindfolded bachelor is been taken to thai massage parlour and he also received oral massage.. The fold is taken off and he realises the massager was a he. The people who planned the "practical joke" didn't get invited to the weddings.

----------

Urban legend, heard through the grape vine:

A finnish bachelor making career in the stock exchange got real scared when his friends got some people to pose as the Financing investigation committee members and cross interrogate him for over an hour. He asked to get to the toilet, called his fiance with his mobile phone and told her to burn all the papers from his home office's closet and desk. She knew about the plot and didn't do it.

---------------------

Real life:
Cousin's bachelorette friend sold eggs, dollar per one, and people could then throw her with them. A sign on her back said "last time slammed with stranger's balls".

---------------------

Real life:

My bf's old university friend is famous for being beef lower and vegetarian basher. He was first given a basket full of carrots told they wouldn't go to the dinner before every last one of them was sold to strangers on the street. In the restaurant everybody ordered a large steak but they had arranged the waiter to bring a large feta salad for the poor bachelor. He got to eat grill food in the sauna party later on in the night and didn't hold a grudge.

---------------------

Real life:

At CS student's bachelor party, most people were nerds in IT-biz so they all got plastic money and one competition of five was throwing your credit cards. You can throw 3 rounds (all your credit cards so more you got the better chances you have) and go collect them from the ground after the points are counted for that round. One competition was to put your forehead on a baseball bat, run around 10 times then run between two tables set about 30 feet apart and drink three luke warm beers.

My general impression of wedding customs has always been that Europeans have much more fun than Americans. The wild and crazy stuff done by Europeans seems like FUN. When Americans try goofy wedding stuff, somebody usually gets hurt, and then the religious fundamentalists get involved, and then before you know it, the Supreme Court is making a ruling concerning the maximum weight in ounces of the amount of shaving cream that can be legally and safely applied to the getaway car.

Oy.

Any bachelor party I've ever been to has been single sex. I think it's cause you want to say whatever and do whatever you want without anyone from the opposite sex being there. I think it's appropriate, single-sex parties. Cause the whole concept is supposed to be one last hurrah for the boys before you need to start dragging her around with you.

I would need to ask the other people of the same sex if anyone from the opposite could be invited. For instance, I'd want to clear it with the boys if a couple of girls who are friends wanted to come along. Especially if I was in charge of planning the party.

Finally, I wouldn't want any of the future Mrs. friends to be there. Guys or girls. Not because we are doing anything remarkable, but because its mine - she can have hers to herself as well.

My fiancee told me that if I go to a strip club, she wants to go with me... I don't even know what I'll do on my bacholors party. Typically, all the bacholors parties that I've heard of are all single sex, but depends on how well of a friend you are with the other sex person and such.

My friend is getting married this year, and I'm the best man. For his party, it's single sex, about 8 of us are going to Chicago to see a Cubs baseball game, and drink like we were in college again. We might be making a trip to a "club", but god only knows. My wife isn't happy I'm doing this, but oh well...

I'm hearing that all-day/all-night paintball parties as a replacement for the strip club are becoming more popular lately. I won't complain if my friends do that for me when I get married.

A good friend of mine is getting married soon so his really close friends (there were nine of us) took him on a four day golf weekend in Jamaica... Now talk about crazy. Nine guys on a bachelor party at an all-inclusive resort... Much drinking (and smoking for those that do it) was enjoyed by all... and oh yeah -- we ended up playing 54 holes of golf too...

I've been to single-sex stripper fests, and drug-fueled testosterone beer-a-thons. I've been to a mountain-biking party. My own party involved all-male rafting during the day and mixed gender BBQ at night.

Do whatever the groom would enjoy the most. That's the key.

what is this ´typical Aussie stag night business´?

another Aussie stereotype that i´m ashamed of, no wait, no i´m not.

its lots of fun, you go out with the lads, get violently drunk, watch a couple of strippers, then pass out somewhere. hopefully you won´t be too drunk the next morning to forget that the groom must be dressed in womens underwear, and returned to his bride to be with lipstick stains and random phone numbers written on his arm.

LOL when I got married my first time, my best man held a bachelors party for me. Since he's evangelist, it was a very clean party know what I mean? The people who worked with me at the time were so offended that they held their own party for me complete with a stripper dressed as a cop who handcuffed me to a chair for her act, and dumped like a quarter of a bottle of hand lotion down my pants to "cool me off" when she was done.

Hard to explain the lotion, but since my wife to be HIRED the stripper (she was offended too) she wasn't upset. BUT, all the guys at work refused to tell her any details about the party. She always believed that something must have happened that we didn't want her to know about.

didn't get married again till last year, about 13 years later. Didn't see the need for one this time.

For my bachelor party all the guys played paint ball!
It was a lot of fun!
Afterwards, we met up with the women, and had a huge party.

Some friends of mine had wild and crazy single gender parties,
complete with strippers. the parties ended up causeing a lot of grief between the couple.

It would be best to know the couples......threshold?....for the wild and crazy stuff before planning a party.

eh.... I thought that I would have had a drunken debaucherous night filled with bouncing boobies and flowing beer.... but no. I didn't.

OTOH, my wife she went to a male revue...because I asked a friend of ours to take her out for a girls night out.

I agree. Bachelor parties should be as different as the people they are for.

Hmmm, I have had the fortunate experience to go to attend a stag weekend and a hen night. (There in lies a big difference )

The Stag's do involved a weekend of activities revolved around paintball, beer, and strippers. The Hen do was a great night out.

I like the "surprise" element of the Swedesh night out, but its the same all round (in my limited experience). Mainly it depends on the best man and how good his imagination is. I have heard of instances where the stag was locked out of his hotel room naked and worse.

'The hen night was more like one of the best nights out ever, but no real "mean" stuff. Although we did all dress up like we were in Starsky and Hutch which was punishment enough...

I'm all for mixed parties, as long as everyone except the stag/hen knows whats going on .

EDIT: Fuck I'm a lousy speller

I fairly nasty but fun tradition in the U.K. is to get the groom totally drunk, hop on a train and handcuff then to some railing in a remote town somewhere.

Usually somebody helps them get to wedding in the morning (but not always....). Since the Channel Tunnel opened, a particular evil variation is to goto France, handcuff them there and then come home with there passport!

A nicer one (for either sex) is for a group of friends to goto somewhere like Ibisa (which is a holiday resort know for sun, sex and sand) for a week. As the 'friends' will tell everybody of the opposite sex, that the groom/bride is getting married NOT having sex is quite hard and is a really good test of commitment.

I didn't really have a bachelor party, but the night before I got married, I hung out with a few good friends drinking Irish Coffees (makes you an ALERT drunk) and playing cards. It was a fun night.

well, i missed my friend's party cuz i was sick as shit. i missed one brother's party for the same reason. i went to another's 'party' that was as fun as chucky cheese.

the last i got invited to, though, was an all out single dude's last night kill all morals fest. strippers, hookers and the like.

i passed.

most guys have a stripper or six. a lot have humoress ones, of course. people rarely get kidnapped here for any reason... americans are shit crazy so if we got kidnapped we'd likely blow their brains out before realizing the joke.

i have a few female friends who vehemently deny such things at their own then whisper other sayings....so who knows?

i say have fun and don't do anything stupid or regretful.
