Doing what we can to help

As you should all be very aware of, the site has been pretty slow lately. I have disabled my avatar for the time being. Now, I know that any positive effect that it will have on the site will be minuscule. To help, I will be sending in some money within the next week. I challenge everyone out there to do something small, be it disabling avatars or donating to help relieve a little of the stress on the site.

As it says in my sig, "You claim to love the site? Prove it." I challenge all of you to do something, no matter how small of a gesture, to try and help with the site. We will all appreciate it.

Thank you.

redravin40 06-23-2003 09:15 PM

Like Spectre I've disabled my avatar.

We've been fighting to keep TFP a great place to be and if that means dropping the picture my daughter made for me, so be it.

I contribute every month and will continue to do so.

If you don't have funds then post on the boards (other then the Titty Board).

Get involved, this is our place.

I hope everyone will jump in and help out.

Thraeryn 06-23-2003 09:18 PM

Well, don't have any cash at hand right now, but I needed to take some new pictures of Jinya anyway.

HeyAgain 06-23-2003 09:43 PM

For the Titty Board, instead of hot-linking all the images, why don't people just post the best picture of the individual, and then provide a link to the rest of the collection.

Just keeping posts to 50 images or less will help.

Also, for those who say they can't afford to contribute, imagine if every current member donated just $5. Five bucks isn't much to come up with. Don't super size your lunch a few times. Stay in one night. It's really not that difficult to come up with a few dollars to send in.

rogue49 06-23-2003 10:01 PM

I don't understand why people who get such enjoyment,
and such a cool resource can't give.

some who say they can't, can.
$5, $10

The price of a damn meal.
Instead of getting that new "whatever" CD, that you will listen to about once a week, if that.
The price of that movie you will pan afterwards.
Can't you give to something that you spend so much time on,
or get some good pictures on?
And I'm not talking about monthly, I'm sayin' every once in a blue moon or even once at least.

Think about it.

I know the internet is supposed to be free,
but with this many users, you would think there would be more generousity.

I don't understand.

Double D 06-23-2003 10:09 PM

Okay guys, my $5 is on the way. I'm sorry you are forced to have to ask- everyone here should contribute in some way, as often as possible.

Just think about it people. No TFP. Gone. Forever.

Send something monetary in NOW, please.

JStrider 06-23-2003 10:24 PM

well i sent off the last 2 fast food meal stops that i was saving in my bank account...

cafeteria food is better for me anyways right?

How about those guys that pick out their favorite pics in a set and go "WTF AWESOME TO THE MAX"? Would it be prudent to discourage this?

MikeyChalupa 06-24-2003 02:32 AM

If I send in another donation (my third) can I get my donor tag back?

Another thing that would help there is to remove the redundant pics. Alot of these sets have multiple posts of the exact same image in them, or simple variations on the same pose (all right now, move your right toe <snap>) That alone would reduce the load, and make the wait more worthwhile for everyone.

Angel 06-24-2003 03:42 AM

But I like my Avatar so much!
*pouts a bit at the thought of removing her*

Ding, ding, ding...solution...Another fifty bucks on the way! :D

C'mon everybody, each tiny bit helps. And as much as I happen to like the ones Jadz is currently sporting....a little peek again sure would be nice! ;)
Donate to OUR community!

ARTelevision 06-24-2003 03:48 AM

Yes, for example, as coffee costs a dollar a cup, dollars can be re-routed easily enough. The price of just one cd would amount to a very worthwhile donation, please do contribute.

rockogre 06-24-2003 05:19 AM

Ok, my quarterly payment just went through PayPal. I'm with MikeyChalupa, can I have my donor tag back now????

Please?

Like Angel I don't like to go without my symbol of the Bretheren. If it takes up that much bandwidth let me know.

cchris 06-24-2003 05:21 AM

We could probably save a shitload of stress by cleaning up the testing board.
705 threads and counting.
What about allowing members a set number of pages of their own somehow so they can just use "their" own place for testing.
The higher the post count or need for certain boards maybe for number of pages allowed.
I am not sure if this is feasable but it's just an idea.
I personally just put a (finished here thank you) and move on thinking that it will be cleared later.
But there are plenty of posts that could be deleted.
Volunteering for any "Mod" type work also if this works out.

The bandwidth used by any one person's avatar is almost nothing compared to the amount of traffic on the site. I dropped my avatar as a small gesture to show how far I'm willing to go to keep this site going. I know redravin well enough to know he did it for the same reason. Sure, dropping the avatars won't help much, if any at all, but I'm using it to prove a point. I'm willing to do as much as I can to keep this site going, I'm hoping others are willing to do the same.

Minx 06-24-2003 05:37 AM

Well last night was just a little smack upside the head about how important this place is to me!
I donated already but am going to again today. Even if people only donated a little bit...skip going out for lunch, doing a movie night out...it doesn't take much but there is strength in numbers.
And ummmmm I'm sorry but I'm like Angel....pouting at the thought of losing my sweet little avatar! It's as much as part of me now as this crazy place! :)
If it will REALLY make a difference though, one of you mods pm me...I'll lose it. :(

EDIT: Sigh...after reading the above post....how can I keep her?
Ah well...this place is worth it.

More editing: :) Just a thought here but I know there are a LOT of people who have no clue about last night. I think it wouldn't hurt to (if it's possible) post Halx's message somewhere just as a little smack upside the head reminder to all the people who don't contribute. Guilt works great! :D

bender 06-24-2003 06:56 AM

Sorry guys but I am one of the group that has no idea as to what happened last night.
But I go and slide Minx some cash and hopefully it'll get there at the sametime, and well I guess that I'll go in and get rid of the tic.
I really liked that guy, but whatever it takes to help out count me in.

Well, I tried but I can't seem to get mine to go away. I keep getting an error message.

I always knew that my avatar was special. It's the "AVATAR THAT WOULD NOT DIE".

Still trying when the boss ain't looking.

Got the little bastard!!!

ninety09 06-24-2003 07:16 AM

hrmm, wish I had a credit card :\

For now, I'll just stop browsing the Titty board, all I can do, sorry.

I'll 'splain it to you later! And cool....a donation.....how'd you know I was going to bug you about it today?! :D

The_Dude 06-24-2003 07:36 AM

i'll try to donate some, i got some money from graduation.

but before that, i need to set up a bank account.

richeee 06-24-2003 09:48 AM

I've cashed in my avatar, and have sent in another Pay Pal.
Keep up the great job, Hal and all You Mods!!! And Thanks!

richeee 06-24-2003 10:10 AM

"Dear richeee,
This email confirms that you have paid halarkin@tba-ownz.org $25.00
using PayPal.
------------------------------
Payment Details:
------------------------------
Total Amount: $25.00
Currency: U.S. Dollars
Transaction ID: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Quantity: 1"

I've decided to buy an avatar!
How about charging a buck or two for the use of the titty board. If those that are using it are sucking the most bandwidth, why should those that don't use it and are donors, continue subsidizing it AND sacrifice an avatar?!
The Member's Playground has a posting count hurdle to get in, why not something like that for the titty board?

Just a thought/rant.
Thanks for letting me vent!
I'm done now!

spectre 06-24-2003 10:31 AM

I have to say, the response to this is very different than what I expected. I removed my avatar as a gesture to show that I was willing to give something up for the site. Like I said before, giving up going out for one night and donating at least a part of what you would have spent is all that I wanted. I really didn't expect other members to do what they have done. Thank you to those who are doing what they can to help. I don't know how long it will be until we reach the goal that Hal wants, but until it's met, I'm going to continue with this. I just wanted to thank those of you who are helping in any way, no matter how small, what you are doing is apperciated.

Cynthetiq 06-24-2003 10:35 AM

:) i'm doing my part!!!! I donated last week because I was already feelling that I had the opportunity to do so again before I closed on the new place and tied up all my monies again.

and.. in support of the brethren... I'll cash in my avatar as well...

SiN 06-24-2003 10:58 AM

as soon as i saw this, well lets just say there's no way i could NoT remove my avatar.

i'd just earned it about a week ago, quite proud of it, but i'm hella more proud of this community in general, and this is something i can do to show my support.

i'd love to donate, i surely would, but i'm living in a foreign country and without a job, i will be for a few months until i finish german language school, so any money i have comes from the bit my bf earns a month, supplemented by his parents.
so, for example, not buying a CD is not an option bcause i'm far too poor to even be buying cd's.

so, i do my part by trying to make worthwile posts, and being an active _female_ member of this great place.

thx spectre for initiating this thread.

and huge thanks to Halx, and the other Admins and Mods and active contributing members of the TFP.
you're all why i love this place so much, and feel very lucky to be here.

Thank you.

(ps) i did get to see Halx's message this morning (European time) and i sure hope it's posted somewhere for all to see. it really needs to be.

heh, how about inserting it at the top of every titty board thread ;)

viveleroi0 06-24-2003 11:07 AM

I donated yesterday, before I even saw the post. All I could do was $10.

I agree about the titty board though... if you really want it there are 1 gabillion other places to get it. That would greatly reduce the stress on the site.

Sparhawk 06-24-2003 11:48 AM

The 1st approaches, and so doth another pay day, forever more.

Halx 06-24-2003 12:46 PM

Thanks everybody. I'm all ready looking around for a new server to purchase with all the donations. The message may pop up a few times this week as it seemed to be fairly effective the first time.

Oh, and you'll get your donor tags in time!

Minx 06-24-2003 12:48 PM

There's more on the way from Bender and myself Halx....anything to help out! :)

Edit.....psssst......bender.....you owe me money, honey! :D

warrrreagl 06-24-2003 12:53 PM

The old Bugs has gone over to the other side of the island. He'll be back soon.

mirevolver 06-24-2003 12:55 PM

Well, things are a little tight for me financially so I can't donate. But I will turn off my avatar until I can donate.

That isn't much at all. The testing board does get cleaned periodically, but it has also been 4 to 5 times that size before and the site ran much faster. People don't generally go into testing like they do the Titty Board.

speckieweckie's right... the posts in the Titty Board (and the other areas of the Erogenous Zone) need to be limited to 50 pics per thread. I bet you'd see a HUGE difference in the speed of the site if that changed.

drawerfixer 06-24-2003 01:38 PM

I'm attempting to contribute to posts, but I just got back from Mexico and thus haven't been able to say much. As I don't know a credit card, I'm not sure how to get money to TFP.

If you want to snail mail or use paypal, go to the following link. http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...=&threadid=718

MacGnG 06-24-2003 01:58 PM

ok i guess im down with no avatars for a lil while. i donated 15$ yesterday. about the same as a shareware fee and since this place is better than shareware, its all good. :D :P

ima disable smilies for a lil while, that should help too, if many people do the same

drawerfixer 06-24-2003 02:17 PM

Thanks spectre.

Will do.

G_Whiz 06-24-2003 02:40 PM

I don't want to send a PayPal from work, but I will trigger another donation tonight from home.

For now, here's goes my Avatar. I needed to come up with a new one anyway.

Solidarity! That's what TFP has been about.

YourNeverThere 06-24-2003 02:46 PM

Man, and i only had my Avatar for like a week :( anyway, i dont have a credit card so i cant sign up for paypal. This has been a problem on the internet for me for a long time and one of the reasons i love this place so much is because its free and i can contribute without paying. I would pay of i could, that would be great. I do contribute to the boards as much as possable, and dont even really vist the titty board very much because i dont have high speed internet access and the posts with anything over 20 pictures take forever to load.
