HATS!
ok i wear hats everyday because i have longer hair and i dont do anything with it so the hat keeps it out of my eyes.
but what this is really about is wearing hats in the wrong place. I was always brought up being told that wearing at hat at any dinner table is a NO-NO! Aparently not everyone has been told that, everytime I go out to eat I see many people with hats on, and it drives me nuts. What really makes me mad is when I go out to eat with my friend (one who really has no manners, but isnt an asshole) he always wears hats and I get on to him and tell him he his not even going to wear that hat inside, (to my surprisment) he listened. see my point? |
yes... it's calle ettiquette... or in layman's terms. MANNERS.
Not everyone was taught manners as a child. pretty simple, not taught manners, let alone simple acceptable and unacceptable behaviors, I'm surprised that people don' t just shit on themselves. |
pffh!
Manners, ettiquette... there is no practical function for any of it. A lot of it dates back to the era of King Louis and all the rediculous mannerisms people had to perform in his presence. I'd like to think we have grown out of that silliness. |
depends on where you're eating at.
if u're at a formal hats, dont wear hats. fast food = hell yes. off the point, i wear a hat/cap when i dont have time to brush my hair |

Unless you are a lady, you shouldn't wear a hat indoors.
AND TAKE IT OFF FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM!!!! *vein popping in head |
Just thought I'd add my $.02
I wear a hat everyday for work. At some point wearing a hat became so natural, it was just like wearing a shirt or pants. When i take it off, I feel naked (more like missing something but you can't really figure out what it is.) Also after about two weeks my hats are so grungy, dirty and caked with sweat I don't take them off and set them somewhere out of courtesy. Now, not really sure if that is what you are refering to, or if you are refering to a more fromalized environment (then yes my hat is off). |

If you're really interested, here are the "rules" for hats for men: Indoors, a man should always remove his hat, (particularly in a home, church, court room or restaurant) except: (1) in public buildings, such as railroad stations or post offices; (2) in the main parlor area of a saloon or general store; (3) in entrance halls and corridors of office buildings, or hotels; (4) in elevators of public or office buildings, unless a woman is present.; (5) if carrying packages, parcels or bags and both hands are occupied upon entry. If in doubt, it is best to remove your hat indoors as soon as practical. http://www.bcvc.net/hats/ Basically, etiquette is a code to help you interact with other people and keep everyone comfortable. And I don't see anything wrong with that. |
I agree with Halx- at least in part. He didn't go much further than the issue but I think manners and chivalry should carry their own weight. I think women and those getting on in their years deserve an amount of respect separate from men I'll meet on the street.
Etiquette such as table manners (proper fork, spoon, saucer, et al), saying 'god bless you' after a sneeze, or any other form of conditioned response is a little dated for a modern society. But the discussion was about hats, and my thought is that any restaurant where it's decent to remove your hat when you sit down is a restaurant that I wouldn't be wearing a hat in to begin with. |
Manners and most etiquette I can understand.... not wearing hats indoors I cannot. How does me wearing my hat inside affect you, huh?
But I agree with Arock, I probably wouldn't be wearing my hat (it's a beanie) if I'm eating at a proper restaurant anyway. |
I generally only wear a hat if a) I haven't showered, or b) my hair is just so dischevelled that I scare people just because of my hair. Usually when going to eat at a place you wouldn't want to wear a hat (formal dinner, nice restaraunt, or even family or friend's dinner) I generally try and at least shower and do not need the hat. But, out of habit I do take it off when sitting down to eat at a real dinner table of some sort that actually has silverware, and only put it back on if the people I'm with complain about my hair looking nasty. I personally don't like wearing hats for the most part, just do to save other people the grief of thinking I'm some crazy jackass who decided to hang my head out the window on the drive over.

I wear my hat everyday because i have strange bald spots sometimes and my hair is usually messed up. I wrote a long eassy on this topic once that i with i still had for my school proving that the taking your hat off rules is stupid stupid stupid. Manners you say, sure, but FORCEING a person to follow the stupid social rules makes the whole thing useless. its 'polite" to take if off sometimes, but if your not doing it to be polite, your only doing it becuase your forced to, then its not manners, its just stupid.

If it doesn't affect you why does it matter if there's a hat on someone elses head? As long as they're not wearing a top hat in front of you at the movies or something equally retarded, leave them and their hats alone. :(

I wrote about this a while ago in my blog so I read alot about hat etiquette.
I don't wear my hat if I am planning to go somewhere like church or a fancy restaurant. However If I end up going there and didn't plan to I don't remove my hat because most time my hair isn't very nice. However I do straighten my hat if I really can't remove it. I think its polite to remove, or not were your hat anywhere that you are confortable. You go so many places now that are considered public, so removing a hat in a restaurant shouldn't be required. However if you are at a private dinner/party then you should remove it. |
A Man with a hat on for some reason really turns me on....Not sure why, but it does.
